Non-compete contracts are common in my (former) line of work but I've never seen one without a time limit. Most common are 3 or 6 months. I'd offer to sign a 3 month non-compete. If the boss balks, tell her that you have to discuss it with your lawyer, again.

Everything is negotiable.
I've never seen a non-compete without a very specific time frame. Usually one year. Non-compete's are like the tax laws, few chose to challenge them, but most who do win in court.
2 days sick time for 6 months isn't out of line to me, I only get 6 a year, and my wife gets 5.
And we have a friend who gets no paid sick time, no paid holidays, and no healht insurance. There are no legal requirements for either, and there are exceptions to the new health care for smaller employers.
