Does anyone here work from home? My DH is looking for a job he can do at home, online from the computer. We're trying to find a job that is trustworthy and you don't have to put in a lot of money up front. I know there are a lot of "scams" out there. I was just wondering if anyone has done this with success? Please PM me if necessary. TIA :goodvibes

I can work from home and do sometimes, however I've never set up my own business, I think this is what you were actually referring to. My company has set me up at home - it's no cost to me.

I think the best way to do it is to either work directly for a regular company with a job you do at home or to start your own business doing whatever your particular skill is as a contractor. For example, my DH is a computer programmer/DBA, and he used to be able to work from home a few days a week. (Now he's in upper management and has to be at work to manage people. He only works at home when he's not feeling well and doesn't want to spread germs or when there's a big deadline coming up and he needs to get away to get the job done.) DH is also moonlighting as a programmer, and he does that almost entirely from home. But he didn't go through a company to set that up. He just finds jobs on his own.

The most important thing is to use the skills that you already have. There's no need to look for a certain industry that makes it easy to work from home. Just try to see how you could do the job you do now, or a similar variation, from home.

My husband is also a programmer, and he works from home about half the time.

If you are talking about basically being self-employed and working from home, those jobs are few and far between, and usually scams.

Most people I know who work from home either are programmers who can work remotely and their company sets them up to do so, or long term employees of a company who were too valuable to lose after they started families, so the company allowed them to work from home.

What type of skills does he have?

I have a home daycare and until this August my husband also worked from home when he was not traveling for his job. He worked for GE a consumer service manager. If you look for the right company he can set up a home office. You will want to utlize skills you already have. That way you don't invest money that will be wasted or get caught up in a scam. Airlines I have heard have reservationist that work from home( I have seen postings before on Monster.com) Try a monster search for his industry he may find something there.

I have worked from home for 10 years now - for a large well known company that set me up! I am so grateful for this opportunity! It is what allowed me on a whim to pack up my DD and move to Orlando from PA within 3 months of visiting for the first time!

Good luck in your quest!
