Hi fellow DIS budgeters ~ my mom's alimony from my dad has ended *was $1000 a month :scared1: She already works 40 hours a week and needs to bring in some extra cash - she'd like to find something she can do at home. She's got some info from Online Business Solutions ~ is that for real or a scam?? I'm very skeptical and want her to find something legit. I've just googled OBS and it doesn't look good :lmao: :sad2:

ETA ~ Found out more about OBS ~ what a bunch of BS! Selling Herbalife - she's an idiot *IMO* if she goes through with it. I'd appreciate some more feedback :)

I know what do for extra money is:
do surverys, swagbucks, irazoo, quickrewards to make money online. It not whole alot money. It has help a lot. Those Wal-mart gift cards comes in handy this time year. LOL

Actually, Herbalife is a legitimate business, but it is just that, a business. It takes time to build it. And, no, I'm not involved, or have I ever been with Herbalife. I know people who have and while you can bring in money, initially, you won't at first. It'll take months to see a profit and there are no guarantees. have you sat down with her and helped her see where her income from her job goes? Are there places she can make cuts? Otherwise, I'd say, she's an adult and has to make her own decisions. Obviously, she didn't prepare for when the alimony would end and now it's happened so she's going to have to figure it out.

Thanks ~ I'm aware that Herbalife is a real, viable business *but do they really need more people selling it ~ I'm sure it's easy enough to come by. She's already paid $10 for her info packet and she'll owe more if she goes through with it - even the $10 is a BIG red flag to me. I'd love to see her do actual work and get paid for it, not sale something that's already out there. I don't care for MLMs.

I wouldn't waste any time on Herbalife they make you buy alot of product up front. If she wants to sell something-Avon is a good item.

I do work from home answering phone calls for several companies including Liveops-mostly informerical calls. It is my "full time" job in conjunction with being a stay at home mom. work at home phone jobs has a lising of companies hiring.

I am a scrapbooker and papercrafter as a hobby and I sell Stampin' Up! products.

I just started in June of this past year and have a pretty good business going. I do Workshops in people's homes where everyone create 2-3 craft projects to take home with them. It's like a Tupperware party, only hands on with crafts instead.

Its great to get a discount on supplies that I already use for my hobby and make money doing something I love doing and meeting new people. The company is awesome and always helpful with their demonstrators.

I make pretty good money each month so far, and I just started. I can pay one to two bills a month, just with the added income. Each month my business is growing and more people are interested in my technique and specialty classes. This past week I had a Christmas Card making class where everyone had a choice between 5 different styles of cards to make. They could make as many cards as they wanted and I charged $1.50 per card. Everyone had so much fun chatting while putting their cards together, then we had coffee and snacks afterwards.

Its a great way to get out of the house and meet other people and still have fun and make money. It doesn't feel like work.

I have 2 work at home jobs. My first job that I have been doing the longest is selling gold canyon candles. I really don't have to do much at this, they sell themselves. I have been doing GC for about 5 years. If you wanted more info about it, you can PM me.

My 2nd job is working for a disability doctor where I get patient information and start the charts for the doctor. I do work in the office a few times a month taking vitals, etc. but I don't have to do that unless I want to. He usually has someone else that does it because I don't like to work on Saturdays and that is the only day we see patients.

wahm.com, ratracerebellion, and workplacelikehome web sites have lots of info on work at home jobs and business opportunities.

I work at home and I am very thankful that my adult children do not think I am an idiot.

I sell Shaklee products, but I found it it cost money to make money. You have to have a certain amount of sales PLUS you have to buy a certain amount to qualify for a check. The way its set up, you don't make any big money unless people under you are selling and selling lots.

There are also things that incur regular charges like their website. If you want to have a website that your customers can order from, that's a monthly fee. There's other charges like any business cards (cheap/free from Vistaprint), advertising and any promotions that you run.

I like the products, but when I did my taxes I saw how much it cost me to have a business and I dialed it WAY down. Now I still sell their products, but utilize word of mouth advertising instead of spending money on it.

I wonder if Herbalife is set up the same way with the fees and the dependency others for your big checks.

I do mystery shopping you won't get rich but you can pull in about $200 extra a month, without a lot of stress and you do it on your time. I have done work from home customer service jobs through the previously mention websites: wahm.com, workplacelikehome.com, etc.......Good luck.:thumbsup2

I'm glad you've found success working at home! Congrats! If my mom finds success than she certainly won't be an idiot :) But she will not find it with OBS/Herbalife - I'm fairly certain I've convinced her of this ~ http://www.cockeyed.com/workfromhome/herbalesson.html

We've been checking out WAHM.com and a lot of it seems like a scam - processing rebates *I googled that and saw what it really was. Another one is Credit Card Worker *what I've found doesn't look very promising. She really needs a steady income ~ I think her best bet is to find a p/t job in the evenings.

I've been trying to do Mystery Shopping and am signed up with one company, but the only assignments they keep sending in my area (suburb of NYC) are Johnny Rockets. How many times can I eat grilled chicken sandwiches? Where can I find REAL Mystery Shopper assignments? I'd love to make $200 a month extra...can someone help me find the companies that really give assignments? Thanks!

You could research using the sites I mentioned above to try to find one of the few market research firms that will hire individuals to conduct "secret shopper" test shops. Note that most of the companies advertising these "opportunities" may be scammers as legitimate jobs are few and not steady work.

The best way to get a job working at home is to develop the skills needed to be able to work at home or from home. I am a transcriptionist. I worked in brick-and-mortar jobs for many years. I have the necessary skills and a properly-equipped home office in order to bring in a fairly steady income. It is possible to take online classes from a school approved by the AHDI to become a medical transcriptionist, or to acquire the skills necessary in order to do general transcription (for which there is no required course), if you have exemplary English skills, can learn to use software, have an ear for accents, and so on. WAHM and workplacelikehome have folders dedicated to the profession which you can study for more details.

Thanks...actually I have many years of legal secretarial experience and type close to 100 wpm. I also did work as a transcriptionist for some time awhile back. I will check out these sites. Right now I have some tutoring work lined up for after New Year's, and some freelance work possible with an attorney, but I need something more. I have been downsized 3 times in the last 19 months so I need to explore other options (as well as still applying for law firm jobs and working towards my M.A.T. in Early Childhood Education...I'm about 1/4 done now. I have an M.A. in Theater already.) So I'll see what else I can put together. I wish the scoring opportunities through Educational Testing Service were more consistent. I did that once and would love to do it again.
