I've read some of the older threads on here about working from home. I used saome of the links to find out about a possible job for me. Now I have read on here that you shouldn't pay money up front to work from home, but the one I'm interested in is pretty low and wondered what everyone else would do.
First, it's a data entry type thing where you process orders and send customers billing info. It isn't a call center job so that is a big plus to me. And it is with a local company that I do have a little bit of experience with. Years ago, my ex and I wired up the phone system for thier call center. So I know the company is legit and has been around at least 10 years. The start up fee is $18. It isn't a lot so although I am baulking at the idea of having to pay anything to start working for them, it is less than $20 so I am not out much even if it doesn't bring in the kind of money it claims to.
The company is called Americorp if anyone else has experience with them. Would anyone else pay the $18, or am I cray to even be considering it?

Is it Americorp or Americorps? Have they told you exactly what the startup fee is for? I found this online, and it looks to me like the same old scam where you send in your $$, then the "training materials" just shows you how to post the same kind of ads you saw and get the training materials $$ from others. http://www.whydowork.com/forums/americorp-data-for-doing-data-entry-t28746.html

I've googled and haven't found anything good about them or anyone who's actually been able to say that it's legit. I'd be really careful. Very VERY few of the legit companies charge for anything. I did work for a totally legit work from home company and did have to pay for a background check fee, but I was able to determine beforehand that it was legit and I knew exactly what I was paying for. NEVER have I seen a legit company make employees pay for training materials.

Also be careful of any companies offering at-home data entry or rebate processing jobs. Apparently, very few (if any) legitmate jobs exist in those fields. What they usually do is sell you instructions for solicting your friends and contacts to buy some company's product. If you sell something, you keep part of the payment as a "rebate." The data entry part is entering your friends' information into the company database. I've done a lot of research on at-home jobs and found that many appear to be scams. Be very careful about paying anyone for a job.
