I hear these ads all the time, work at home typing medical reports, make more than you would in an office. My question: Has anyone done this or doing it now? Can you really do this at home and make a decent salary or is this some type of scam? I would like any comments or anyone that does this at home how do you make out with it?

Thanks!

I believe most ads to be a scam. To discern whether or not any particular company is legitimate...check out workplacelikehome.com .

For a list of legit (as in income producing instead of promises to get rich quick)companies...check this link

(I just checked and their server must be down or something--be sure to check back later).

I can give you the names of the 3 I have worked with and attempt to remember the others if you would like to know sooner than they can get the site back up.

As the other poster said, most ad's are scams. However, typing medical transcripts at home is an actual job. You just can't get the job and the work as easy as some make it seem! My neice did it for a while. She made about $1500 a month. She is a good typist, and went to school to learn how to type the work the way it needed to be. YOu need an excelent vocabulary, and a little medical knowledge. If you have children at home, you'll more then likely find yourself up all night typing to make money. Its just to hard to type that much with kids underfoot. You'll also need to purchase some software. Some of the software has built in phrases that make it so you only have to type a couple letters and it inserts an entire sentance (basic terms that are used often). She worked for an actual company, not on her own. Its hard to find dr's to hire you if you are doing it on your own.

From the work at home message boards I frequent--medical transcription is a relatively hard field to enter as most jobs expect you to have experience. The educaiton alone isn't enough. On the Budget boards--there was one company mentioned that you do not have this problem with b/c they actually train you properly. I don't recall what it was though.

But I think even most of the medical transcriptionist ads are scams. They are even starting to hold seminars like the other get rich quick schemes out there. I heard radio ads this weekend for a "find out more" seminar held last evening at a local hotel. And by scam I mean--they promise you can make a lot of money in the field as it is a popular field (and they are probably correct on that note)--they most likely do not train you well enough to actually get a job with an at home company that hires medical transcriptionist.
