Following what others are saying I keep a list of previously used words. Pollyannamom originally sent me the list (thanks) and I’ve kept it up with my words, including the numbers of guesses I made (3). Yesterday there were six words I could have used but were all previous words.

When I played regularly, I would try to make sure my starting word did not contain the letters in the previous day’s word.

I always thought it would make an interesting challenge to start from the previous day's word, but I've never actually done it.
