from what I read today was the first time the words were different. The times removed some words from the original word list

YES!!! The words don't seem be as common/everyday words.

This was just on my local news. Apparently, the original creator preplanned the words way out, but the Times actually thought yesterday's word was too hard, and replaced it:

aroma - a distinctive, typically pleasant smell.

Now, that's a problem, because it means they just skipped the word they didn't like, rather than replacing it. If that's true, then there will be spoilers out there every day going forward for everyone whose account hasn't converted over yet.
