Got my rota at work yesterday for next year, as usual we are planning a big splurge in August. Anyway noticed that I was off work at the same time as DW in Feb half term so said should we do one of our usual trips at that time of the year to Tenerife.
Four oclock this afternoon I found the flights and accommodation and it was going to be a touch over a grand. I then said stuff it how much extra would it be to do a cheapie to Disney, anyway found economy flights with Air france from Manchester for £490 each which I thought was pretty cheap, booked them immediatly. Got straight onto DVC got a week in the Bay lake tower in a studio with some of our points, booked the magical express, booked the normal dining plan, booked annual passes for the first time as we will be back in August. Booked the cat into the cattery, booked the Radisson at Manchester Airport, DW made the reservations for meals online, got everything we wanted at the times we wanted. Then set off for work as usual at 6pm. :yay::yay::yay:
Off to London for a few days tommorrow, should have the ok by monday on a shift swap from work then it will be time to dig deep for those Biz class flights for summer and work out how to squeeze the most out of my remaining points to get us in a 1 bed. Grief I will be bankrupt If I keep going at this rate.:rotfl2:

All that in 2 hours - I'm breathless ;)

Well done :thumbsup2

And you will hv a much nicer time than in tenerife. Nothing ever compares to disney . Happy planning:cool1:

We are looking again this year at buying dvc, how does the dining plan work? We are on free dining this year but do you get a discount off the price etc?

Well done, I didn't know Air France flew from Manchester to Florida, which airport do they fly to?

Debs xx

You dont get any discounts on the dining plan with DVC. you can add it to your booking but you pay the usual price
:sad2:

Depends which route it is, we booked AirFrance from MAN via Atlanta, it was a code share on Delta plane.

You need to compare DVC price to the deals you get with free DVC. DVC is not for us anyway but I wouldn't buy into it while the OKW 48% off & free DDP offer is running. I thought it would be a 1 or 2 year promo but no end to it yet.
Annual dues for 21 nights at OKW 2011 worked out at £48/nt(@$1.60/£1) plus upfront purchase cost, we pay approx £110/nt incl food, leaves £62 for food. we couldn't buy DDP for that for 3 of us.
I am also not one for paying a lump sum upfront.

This ones Man -Charles De Gaulle - Orlando,

To the other poster, yes you just add the dining plan on at normal plan, you dont need to buy tickets if on DVC so long as you have a reservation its all you need so you can use annual pass for parks which also has a dvc discount of $100

Thats one way of looking at it Wayneg but that still depends on the person. For me OKW or SRR are probably the least likely resorts I would want to go to if paying cash, Its a lot to do with location. Ok they offer a heck of a discount but for this trip its only 1 week, if I was not a DVC member I would be looking at a monorail resort because of the short period, this would enevitably be much more and with no 48% off. Really for anyone looking to buy DVC dont think you can compare Bay lake against cash purchase at OKW or SSR, you need to look at what you would be paying for one of the 3 on monorail, likewise if I had decided to stay at one of the epcot resorts, they are a heck of a lot more money than anything at SSR or OKW.
Personally the way I would look at it is what resorts do you stay in now, and where would you like to stay if cost didnt come in to the equasion. Our experience of disney before we bought DVC was that we had stayed at all the delux resorts with the exception of SSR and OKW. I have stayed at them both since, but for shorter trips they would not be my first choice, to be honest I dont think if cost didnt come in to it they ever would be. I would always choose an epcot or magic kingdom resort over them. The only time I would consider OKW is if I was low on points as it has a low points cost, SSR if I couldnt get in somewhere nearer to the parks.
So for me personally I wouldnt be looking at how much it would cost against SSR or OKW but against how much would it have cost me at a monorail resort or epcot one, which is what I used to pay for quite often without any free dining if we needed to go at the end of July rather than in August.

I guess too many If's & but's for DVC, we would never want to stay on the monorail route, for others thats where they want to be, for us OKW is probably the only onsite resort we enjoy going back to time and time again. Short trips we prefer offsite value like we are this week, only time we have been in Disney is for MNSSHP.
