Woolworths

I managed to finally get the link to work and have cancelled my 2 pre-ordered DVDs :thumbsup2

I had several telephone calls/conversations in person yesterday. No one gave me the same answer.

However i was advised to go else where and purchase my pre-order.

When i arrived home i received a message on my house phone saying my order of camp rock, hancock are out of stock.

Eventually managed to cancel the rest of my order.

I think the distribution part of the company who dealt with the DVDs etc have already been made redundant sometime last week. The shops will probably only be able to get stock from other shops and once it's all gone they will be likely to just close the shops. I'm waiting to see if the company gets stripped of all assets and sold off for a pittance as it's usually the case in this situation.
It's going to be a tight time for everyone I'm just praying that the economy picks up again soon.

I spoke to a lady who works for Disney merchandising DVD's & she said that Woolworths have stopped having deliveries, they own Entertainment UK which distributes DVD's & cd's to Woolworths, Sainsburys, Zavvi online, WHSmith online, part of Asda & some Morrisons. As Woolworths are in administration Zavvi & WHSmith have stopped taking online orders as they have yet to find a new supplier. Sainsburys have managed to source part of a new supplier.

Its not just EUK & Woolworths that are suffering as the delivery company is delivering 97000 less packages each week. The company is up for sale for £1 providing someone wants to take on the debt. One of the guys from Dragons Den is rumoured to be interested in buying it.

I bet Woolworths wishthe y took the £30 million bid they were offered in the summer.

In case anyone is interested, Woolworths are having a massive 'up to 50% off' sale today only. There is 50% off toys and christmas Cards, 30% off trees and decorations, 20% off gifts and savings on all other items.

Dp popped into our's this moring and got the peppa pig draw and drive for £10 meant to be £25. And Peppa pig P'js. So definately worth popping in :thumbsup2

just got back from woolies, got some good pressies but put loads of things back as there is no clear marking on anything as to how much it is!

it's just awful, I had an email from Zavvi advising me to cancel my pre-orders so at least they're on the ball.

Wish I'd manage to take advantage of some of the bargains they had on offer.

(IMO) To be honest I think they brought it on themselves. They haven't evolved with the market and consequently they're being overtaken by other retailers and not just the supermarkets: The likes of Home Bargains and Wilkinsons seem to be doing well and they're in a similar sector. I wouldn't be entirely surprised if WH Smith went the same way.

I went to Woolies today and couldn't find anything I wanted to buy even with the discounts. As Lexie said it's hard to know what the discounts are.

From BBC news.

Woolworths is to hold a store closure sale in all its 815 outlets from Thursday amid growing concern that a buyer will not be found for the firm.

ours was the first woolies ever so it's been there for like 100 years!

i love woolies! :sad1:

This is so sad, in our small high street, we now have 3 shops going-max spielman and card factory and also our somerfield was demolished to make way for a tesco and a small mall which should of included M+S now they have all pulled out apart from tesco who now have applied for a larger store!
But mostly I do feel sorry for my dd who started her first ever little job in woolies recently and also the 25,000 staff who are going to lose their jobs :sad2:

It is very sad that all these well known names are going out of business :sad2:

I've just heard from someone who's been into their local Woolworths this morning, and spoke to the manager there. The sale from today is the same as it has been since last week - ie up to 50% off, and they do not intend increasing the sale this week.

The Coventry Woolies was packed this morning, I stayed well away from it
