So winter is coming soon and I need a new coat. I have worn ski type jackets (Columbia) for quite a few years now. I am thinking about getting a wool coat this time but hesitant if they are warm. Anyone know if they are about the same for warmth? It has been forever and I can't remember. We live in CO so we can get some cold temps. BTW, I get cold easy. What type is your favorite winter coat?

I wear a wool pea coat every winter here in Iowa. :thumbsup2

Pea coat link..

I got that coat last year (in red, in case you're curious ;) ) and it was super warm. It has a Thinsulate lining, so I was always nice and toasty - even when we had windchills around -30. :sad2:

No way, I never knew that wool coats have thinsulate now. Cool. Plus the price is right. I'm originally from SD so I understand your Iowa winters! Thanks for your post, Ashley. How were the sizes? Pretty true to form? I have big hips and I also want to be able to wear a sweatshirt underneath. I wear XL shirts but have tried on some wool coats and 1X seems to be better.

Yeah their sizing runs pretty true, at least for me it has. Their XL should fit a 15/16 or 17/18.. 41-43" bust and 43-45" hips, I think. If you're on the higher end of that and want to wear a sweatshirt, you might consider bumping up a size. Plus they've got a pretty decent return policy if you order something and it doesn't fit - I think you can exchange or get a refund within 60 days, and after 60 days they give you a merchandise credit.

I DO like Columbia or North Face jackets if I'm going to be out skiing or snowboarding or something, but outside of that, I've always got a wool coat on. :thumbsup2

one of the best things about wool is even if it does get wet, it does not lose it's insulating properties.Wool is one of my favorite fabrics. I have 4 wool coats!
