Woody Jesse and bullseye leaving celebration BBQ!

I think maybe it wasn't enough of a character meal for those who like character meals and it was too much of a character meal for those people who don't like character meals. Clearly, there were some people who liked it but I guess not enough.

I just have a hard time with the price of any character meal. If DS was more into the characters then I could see that it might be worth the cost but right now he isn't interested and would probably get upset with any character interaction and DH and I are probably a little too shy to feel comfortable interacting with the characters ourselves so for now we don't do character meals.
you hit the nail on the head!!! my feelings exactly. we are not people who like to interact with characters nor do we want to pay that high a price to sit out side. a lot of people are like us. we love disney and the parks, but are shy and just not into all the interacting, and there for the meal just to eat BBQ was way to high.

warning armchair imagineering ahead LOL
I would like to see a barn LOL an airconditioned barn :) wouldn't that be nice, I wouldn't feel like everyone is gawking at me. The theming would be amazing with old chairs and rough tables and lamps or even covered wagons :) ooh that would be fun! But picnic tables? Outside & next to no theming? I might as well eat at BB for the price and get atmosphere :confused3 I don't care if characters are there. I just want some comparable value.
I would like to see BBQ stay in Frontierland they just need to figure the thing out and please the majority of people, so it can stay afloat.
Reality check time... I would like :worship:
An " a la carte" menu. If I want just chicken, cornbread and a drink that would be great. Higher price if I want the whole meal. Give me some options instead of holding me hostage to a huge BBQ.

That would actually be a really cute name for a company/business of some kind - "Armchair Imagineering." That's clever!:thumbsup2

Yes, I think several of us agree that there were some issues about the BBQ that turned us off and somehow the formula wasn't working for a lot of people. I think if they are not going to upgrade and bring in more characters and expand the menu to include more things, then they should downgrade everything. An a la carte menu would be an excellent idea, and like Teatime said, bring the price down for the a la carte meals to something like $12 or even $15 max. And I agree - I think maintaining some sort of BBQ food in Frontierland is a great idea.

Thanks but I can't take credit for that LOL that's what all those "kids" over at miceage are :rotfl2: with all their DL would be better if we did this ideas :rotfl:
but ya I really would love an a la carte menu option it just makes sense :)

Oh, I'm sad the characters are leaving. But glad prices are dropping some. We only ordered drinks there because they were included, we could hardly eat the desserts at all. I like the $9.99 kids option but wish my 13 y.o. could get that....she doesn't eat enough for a $24.99 meal!! We love the BBQ tho, we will go again, we almost went last trip but DD13 changed her mind so we did something else. At $24.99 we are much more likely to eat there more regularly, we will order water like we usually do and skip desserts, we'd rather do something for dessert after our meal anyway, we don't like doing dessert right after our meals.

Not sure why your hot headed, people have a mind of there own you know. I love BBQ but I can get it cheaper at tony roma;s across the street and in a cool air conditioned restaurant . yeah glad you had a ball but not everyone is you and cares . the prices were to high, I could care less about characters, I go to goofys kitchen for the food. I am not particularly fond of them coming to my table, my kids are not either. yeah they love to see them interact with folks, but some people do not care to interact but we care about what we eat. as far as the food I hear its awesome, but let it be amazing for a way cheaper price. I do not need all you can eat, but a nice plate of BBQ should be enough for at least 12.00 .

I personally think Tony Roma's sucks, I can do better at home. But to each their own. Since I have not tasted Disney, I am curious.

Well you made my point quite well! If you don't like to eat outside, and you don't like to have characters coming to your table- then why on earth would you go to it in the first place? Just don't go. There were plenty of places in DL to eat where you would not be "bothered" by characters, and have cheaper food.

I think maybe the point here (and teatime correct me if I'm wrong) is that we've heard about the great food there and want to try it but are disappointed that it's a character meal (meaning higher prices) and not just a regular restaurant with (slightly) cheaper prices. I don't think anyone is mad about it being a BBQ or a character meal, just stating opinions. And you're right. I thought it was too expensive so I didn't go. Simple as that. But i did want to try the BBQ and couldn't justify the cost for our family (especially since DS has a feeding tube and wouldn't be eating anything there anyway but that's a different subject. :goodvibes). This price, while not cheap, is better.

Oh and about comparing it to TPG. I was actually thinking the same thing because both places serve ribs. So to give some perspective on the pricing, TPG has a meal with 5 ribs that comes with coleslaw and fries for I think about $15. This is pricey for a CS place but DH and I can split it easily which brings the cost down. At a full service restaurant is is harder to split meals. Well, I guess it's not harder but I always feel guilty like I'm disappointing the server by not spending as much.

"Just don't go", is exactly what people did and why the place is changing, hopefully for the better.

I've had the ribs at both TPG and the BBQ, honestly, I like them better at the BBQ. At TPG I like the chicken sandwich, DBF likes the blue cheese burger but if we want ribs we either do RFC and share a Maya's Combo or we will do the BBQ.

yep you hit it again :) I would love to try that food, it sounds delicious!! but..... not at that price. Maybe some people can afford those prices and don't see the problem, but we can not afford this. We do have some great dining plans, but again the one we will be splurging on is the Bayou . ( but I get a choice on what I want to, hopefully the BBQ place will also go ala cart.

If the ribs are better at the BBQ then we might just have to check it out!

We've never tried the chicken sandwhich at TPG but we tried the cheeseburgers one time because we heard several people raving about them and I have to say they weren't that good. The seemed like your basic theme park style hamburgers. The condiments bar is nice though. Oh and our new discovery is those yummy full throttle fries. :cloud9:

Yes, it would be a splurge for us too but we may just have to try it one of these days. We'll see. It doesn't exactly go along with our plan to spend less money.

I think the BBQ sauce at TPG is more "generic" and the sauce at the BBQ is more "home made", not really home made but you know I mean I think. :) We love TPG but mostly for the condiment bar, it's great to build your burger your way and most places don't do pickles for their burgers, for me it's not a burger unless there are pickles on it. lol

Other than some of the hotel restaurants, I don't think any of the restaurants in DL/DCA are "a la carte" are they? Even Blue Bayou--you can't order a partial meal--say just soup or the entree without soup/salad. Or Cafe Orleans--the closest would be you can order just a corn dog or hot dog at a counter service without chips/apples. Otherwise, Disney forces you to buy the entire meal. I doubt they would implement something different here. I can see them letting people order just dessert like they do at Blue Bayou.

I'm with you Kerri--although I have to say as cupcakes go these were pretty darn good (not nearly as gooey sweet as some in DL can be!) But I would have preferred to have it an hour or two after my meal.

This was on Mice Chat today:

"made a call to the priority seating line this morning and spoke with a very helpful cast member who told me that they had just received the new information about Celebration BBQ this morning.

-it will no longer be a character dining meal
-meals will no longer include beverages or dessert
-lunch prices will be $19.99 for adults and $9.99 for children
-lunch will not include the corn wheels, but will still have cole slaw and beans
-dinner prices start at 4:00 pm and are $24.99 for adults and $9.99 for children
-dinner will include everything at lunch plus BBB sausage and corn wheels

I forgot to ask about the future of the cornbread.

I also asked if the dessert options would change. She felt that the cupcakes in a waffle cone would likely be changed to something else.

She said that at this point food would still be served family style."

I'm so disappointed. I'm cancelling my PS. I need to find something else to do for my birthday celebration. :sad1:

So, does this mean for lunch you get chicken and ribs (plus the sides) and dinner you get chicken, ribs and sausage plus sides? Also, do you think it is still all-you-can-eat where you can ask for more if you want? Just trying to understand exactly what is being served. Anyone know or have a guess about this?

If I were to pick, I would want the BBQ to have just a regular menu set-up. For example, some people may not want chicken AND ribs AND/OR sausage. Some may just want one or the other. Break everything down into separate meal options on the menu just like any other restaurant does. If you want the rib meal, it comes with a couple of sides, and the drink and the dessert are separate. Now, the chicken meal could have two different sides with it. Add BBQ sandwiches on there too (both pork and chicken). Add some BBQ beef onto the menu. Add a BBQ chicken salad. Add some more sides that can be ordered a la carte - i.e., mashed potatoes, baked potatoes, onion rings, fries, add in mac & cheese, etc., to the menu Make a BBQ chicken sandwich meal that comes with a side, and then you can order a second side if you want it. That way, people can just select the meal they like, rather than having extra items they may not want for their money.

I am thinking about the other BBQ restaurants that are successful - whether or not you love 'em or hate 'em - like Tony Roma's, like the old BBQ chain called Love's, like this little dive, hole in the wall (but extremely popular) place called The Pig that used to be close to where I live. All of these places have/had lots of options on the menu, and you could order different meals just like you would at Carnation Cafe or Steakhouse 55 or Cafe Orleans, etc.. And then for dessert, they had things like apple pie or milkshakes.

They should just expand the menu at Celebration to include everything everyone already loves, but then add in a whole bunch of other BBQ-menu-type items too, and then break it up into meals and lower the prices a bit.

Okay, now you're making me hungry! Maybe you need to open a BBQ restaurant because that sounds yummy! Or maybe you just need to go work for Disney and tell them how it's done! :rotfl:

I kind of made myself hungry too!:rotfl: If they call me, I will go in and tell them how it's done!!:lmao: And I had planned on walking past the BBQ tomorrow to check it out and see it for myself , and see if I could catch a glimpse of Woody and Jesse (I haven't been there since they opened it this year)....but my plans got cancelled, so I will have to wait until Halloweentime and see what they have done with it by then and if they have managed to work in Woody's Halloween Round-Up to the layout!!

Yes, this little hole in the wall place called The Pig near here used to do big business, and critics and customers alike loved it. I think it relocated somewhere else. They had a lot of stuff on the menu - big, sloppy sandwiches, whole chickens, meals with a couple of pieces of chicken and some sides, combo platters with chicken and ribs, all sorts of side dishes, a few solid dessert options, pulled pork, all kinds of things. That typical menu formula can work for a BBQ restaurant at DLR too - they just have to invest the time and money into making it that way. What they have now is so limited.
