We are making kabobs for a party this Sunday and I am desperatly trying to find wooden skewers. Does anyone have an idea of where I can find some? I want the wooden ones because I figure (a) they will be cheaper and (b) they will be easier for clean-up.

We have a shop by me
Skewers R US It sell wooden and metal ones

Try your supermarket, hanging above the diary aisle

Good luck

I have gotten them in the dollar store if you have them by you. Wal-mart has them. Also in the food store in the paper plate asile. Just don't forget to soak them so they don't burn. Have fun

Hi - I'm also from the SW suburbs. I got wooden skewers at Jewel, in the picnic aisle.

What should I soak them in? Just plain water or something else?? And for how long???

I soak them overnight in a big bowl
weight them down so they don;t float

Plain water for about 2 hrs. You'll have to weight them down so they don't float.

No. They don't shrink.

Soaking them is very important AND much better than having flaming kabobs with burnt meat.

Soaking them also helps to avoid the skewers splintering when you pull the cooked meat off. :)
