Woo hoo free dining offer!!!

Am I missing something or was this intentionally posted on the wrong board? :confused3

Not sure it was intentional, but my Disney Visa won't get me free dining with my DVC points (if I'm wrong, I am now a free dining fan for the first time).

It doesn't really END on Sept 29........as long as they check-in on the 29th, the free-diners can be there for another 14 days.:scared:

Yikes, we arrive the 28th, there goes are chance of dining where we want.

Ugh! I just booked our trip this week to go August 24th-28th. I'm sure the crowd levels will go up now. I better make my dining reservations ASAP.

Thanks for the heads up OP! And enjoy your vacation!!:cool1:

I have gone during Free Dining and it is not the end of the world. You simply have to book ahead.

Also I never understand the " it is not free" comments. While it might not be the cheapest way to do Disney or even the best bargain for some, if you were to book a room with tickets at rack rate without dining, then Yes it is free.

But Sammie.. That's like saying the Chevy dealer may charge you 80K to park your car in their lot, then give you a free Corvette when you leave..

We've never done free dining since we only use our DVC points.....but my sister in law was a fan until her kids became Disney adults...now she's better off with room discounts

I posted it to share information that might help other families planning a trip. Sorry if I offended you or the others who answered my post in a negative manner. Sure didn't expect such negative responses. Have a nicer day :)

OP...sorry about the negative responses! However, when we book on DVC points, we can't partake in Free Dining anyway, so some people feel it's a rather moot point to post it on this board.

We did free dining once on a cash trip and found it was too much food and a lot went to waste (example...you would get a dessert with every QS meal, well we don't eat dessert at lunch so that is food we paid for that didn't get eaten.) Also I needed an abacus to keep track of what credits we had and didn't have. :rotfl2:

Thanks keaster...I am a brand new DVC owner so I appreciate your response...I guess my thinking was that some DVC owners might stay on cash reservations as well & might be interested in free dining. Lesson learned! Have a great weekend :)

I wonder if the OP is in the DVC system yet.

The vast majority of people who frequent this board own DVC and would not usually pay rack rate at WDW. We know that free dining is not free. I'd much rather go on points and use TIW than pay rack rate with "free" dining.

Welcome and don't sweat the negative stuff. :)
Some DVC owners run out of points and DO look for these kinds of promotions. Thanks for the heads up.

Once you start staying on your points I think you may understand some of the comments. Have fun on your trip!!!

Last summer I rented out my points and went with the "Free Dining" package staying in a moderate. Worked out well for me, but then I just eat steak and potatoes.

Having DVC gives me great flexiblity, I can stay on points or rent the points and take the promo that Disney has going if I like that better.

Sorry disneybeachprincess, but from your post I couldn't figure out if you just posted it to the wrong forum or sort of taunting us. I apologize if my post offended you.

Thanks for the Free Dining information. But I'm like many here that free dining doesn't really attract me as much any more. Even when we stay at a cash resort, like we will for a couple of days in April, the room prices are more expensive under free dining than if we bought the DP separately with my AP discount. And since we have the TIW we save more on dining that way than using the DP.

Once again sorry for the misunderstanding.

Thanks DizBub -- still waiting for Disney to put me in the system -- learning a lot here & hope to learn even more now that I am an official DVC owner!

Great place for some good insight. Enjoy your membership and take the negative with a grain of salt, it's all in the perspective. Remember when gas was under a buck a gallon? Most of us still drive, right?

You'll figure out what works for you and what doesn't. and then you'll post about it like the rest of us, lol!

Welcome to DVC, hope they can get you in the system soon. Hope you didn't take my comment as negative. I am truly glad free dining works for so many. Our next door neighbors take advantage of it every year, and when you are a family of 6, with two kids over the age of 10, it is a huge savings. I've even utilized it once upon a time (first year I think) when my mom wanted to stay in a non-DVC resort. With 4 adults on that trip it saved us big money. For our upcoming trip we are only hoping to make about 4 ADR at6 months out and figure out the rest of our dining as we go down there, so I'm hoping that not all the restaurants will be packed.
