Won't book 5pm Time Slot

Has anyone else encountered this? I wanted the 5pm time slot at Sea Breeze Point for and escape ceremony in February. I thought it would be beautiful since sunset is right around 6pm. So Doreen from DFTW told me they do not book that time slot b/c pictures don't turn out well. I had already planned on using Randy for photography, so I emailed him for his opinion. I haven't heard back from him yet, so I'm kinda on pause. If this is what I really want, should I fight for it? Otherwise, I have to acquiesce to the 2:30 time slot which wasn't what I had envisioned.

Thoughts? Ideas? TIA!

Are you having a wishes or escape ceremony and what time of year is it? Also, I think the WP is considered an indoor location? Thanks!

I have never heard of this - the only restriction on outdoor locations (as posted on DFTW's notoriously contradictory website) is the seasonal restriction on Sunset Pointe.

I can imagine them bumping you for a Custom wedding that also wants that time slot (unfortunately), but photos...? Sounds fishy to me! Ask again or ask somebody else - and let us know what you find out!

I would make sure. I am getting married in March and we were going to have a 5pm ceremony at SBP and they didn't say that was a problem. I changed the wedding to 12 though. I googled florida sunset times and the time in feb is 6:12.

I called to be pencilled in for 5PM in October 2008 at the Yacht Club Gazebo.
The woman (I can't remember her name right now!) went and checked what time sunset would be. Sunset is going to be around 6:40PM so she said I could have 5PM because there should be enough time for pictures. I would wait and get Randy's opinion and then call back.

Hey everyone! Thanks for your helpful responses.

Lurkyloo~ I had thought the same thing about being bumped for a custom wedding.

So, I just got off the phone with Randy and he actually confirmed what Doreen said. So I guess I was jumping the gun a little bit. I thought sunset would have made for some beautiful pictures. He did offer to take our pictures prior to the wedding and set it up for me and my sweetie to see each other for the first time before the ceremony so that we had enough light do the pictures. But I think I'd rather hold on to what little tradtion I have and just go with the 2:30 time slot.

Then I call my mom and she tells me that she doesn't like any of Randy's pictures from the link I sent her!!!! I can't believe it! So, she's going to have my step-father look over some of his stuff too and get his opinion. I'm actually willing to hear them out on this one (but reserving a grain of salt ) b/c they both have worked for professional photo labs for many years combined and my step-father is in the process of purchasing a camera/photo supply shop.

So now, I'm going to send my mom links to all of you wonderful ladies' actual galleries!! and hopefully she can fall in love with his work as much as it seems like everyone else on this board has.

I'm sorry if this is all over the place. I'm starting to feel overwhelmed with trying to coordinate everything.

Aww..thats aweful she doesnt like them!! Personally, I had a few reservations about Randy's pictures until I realized one thing.... if you go to the websites of other photographers with all the artsy pictures, and all perfect pictures, they are usually just 5-10 different versions of the same 100 pictures or so. No variety in the actual photos. With Randy, he gives you TONS of different photos and will do whatever you ask him to do with the photos pretty much. For instance, I'm more of an artsy/posed/traditional person...not too much for the candid shots, and so he is going to take more of the posed and traditional ones and "art" them up a little. Hopefully this point will help your parents see how wonderful Randy really is.
