Wonder's Panama Canal Repo 2011 - AND WE'RE NOT BRINGING IT BACK!

Hey... from your sig line I gather we missed you on the PC cruise (we took the ship back in Sept though!) but that we'll be on the TA together... and we may end up on THIS cruise together too. Cool! :)

I really hope so!! We loved the 2008 cruise.

Hi,

I have never been on a PC cruise before but told myself..someday. Well I think that someday is 2011.

I don't care if I have to pull the kids out of school for half a month. I don't care if I have to sell some internal organs to get on this cruise. I am willing to face the flight home(I hate flying and my longest flight so far has been under 3 hours). I will even have to give up vacations to WDW for the next couple of years. I think I will even have to give up ALL vacations for the next couple of years-well maybe a long weekend in the Dells for the kids, but that is it.

I really, really, really want to be on this cruise. I will be scouring the boards for any information on my dream cruise. I may be obsessed.

Happy Father's Day to all you dads. Spending time with mine in California. Cant wait to hear more about this cruise. Keep checking...no luck yet.

Giving us a little Wednesday nudge... :goodvibes

Come on DCL!!! Give us a hint!!! Something, anything would do!!!

...., i believe, with possible delays [ based on the magic first
sail date.]

...that the wonder pc cruise......most likely will be....., mid~
march----mid april. really.

Actually, the moving of the Wonder has nothing to do with the launching of the new ship. Disney has already committed 30 cruises out of LA for 2011. Andrew (from another thread) figured out that the ship would need to leave PC by mid February to fulfill it's commitment. I'd actually rather have it move early so that there will be fewer kids on the boat.

Yep, I'm the mom that will take her child out of school for 2 weeks for this! But there are a lot of parents that won't. Good thing we go to private school and there's no attendance requirement. :rolleyes1

Let me start by saying, I'm not disagreeing with you or Andrew. I also am in the camp that thinks the repo will happen prior to spring break season.

Actually, assuming 7 day cruises out of LA, Disney only needs to have the Wonder in LA by Sunday, June 05, 2011 to make their quota (reference 30 cruise post and The math behind it... for the uber-bored). But, that also assumes that there is not a seasonal cruise being made to Alaska, Canada, Hawaii, South America, Asia, New Zealand, or Figi in 2011. Alas, I don't have any proof that she'll venture elsewhere. BUT, I AM looking!!!.

Why don't you think that the Wonder & Dream schedules are related? Andrew's & other's intel leads us to believe, whether we like it or not, that the Dream is taking over the 3/4 day Bahamian itinerary from the Wonder. That certainly doesn't mean that the Dream has to take over for Wonder the week she heads to Cali. But, I have to think that Disney knows when they want their new ship delivered and working that itinerary.

However, I still don't think that it's an accident that the Magic & Wonder are scheduled to be in St. Maarten on Jan 2, 2011. Disney doesn't have coincidences like that. Could there be a three ship Pirates in the Caribbean party? :thumbsup2

I also don't think that expecting delays are founded. Shipbuilding and manufacturing technology has changed quite a bit over the last 11 years. Most things can now be tested before they are even built. DCL will manage their expectations, as well as their contractors, better the second time around. I also expect hefty rewards for Meyer Werft for delivering on time as well as hefty penalties should they not.

BTW, I'm glad that there are parents like you that see the educational value in a PC cruise! Hopefully, there won't be so many of us that it drives the price up before I can get a ressie I can afford ;)

awoltoday - Hmm, great logic. Maybe I was going off the other posts (and its been awhile since I've read them) that stated that the Wonder needed to be out there by the end of the first quarter. Or maybe it was just wishful thinking on my part?? :rotfl2: Who knows? :confused3 :goodvibes

My DD finally sat down with me to watch some videos from ships going through the canal. Only then did she get excited by it. The poor kid was under the impression that when the ship goes through the locks it would be flooded. Poor thing. :goodvibes I guess my initial explanation was really bad. :lmao:

The Magic and the Wonder will be in St. Maarten because of the Xmas and New years schedules... They have special 10 & 11 day cruises booked for the holidays...

& don't worry about taking the kids out... lots of people did in May - not as many as in August (which made it a MUCH quieter cruise...) but it was worked out with schools and there IS internet if the kids have to keep in touch with teachers... it's quite an experience... :thumbsup2

I may have missed some recent posts by Derek, too. The drop dead dates really depend on how much they cut out of the middle. We are reasonably sure the Wonder will be doing 7 night Mexican Riviera runs about 30 times. Really what they need to do is count passengers embarking and disembarking in LA 60 times - yes, round trip passengers are counted twice. So, if all they do are 7 day runs, we know they have to be in LA by June 5th. We also can sort of figure the other EXTREME end of the spectrum. The last date on the Wonder's current schedule is Jan 6, 2011 in Port Canaveral. If it did a 17 day repo (I think 10 would be out of the question), it would arrive/depart in LA on January 23rd. That would leave 19 weeks for the Wonder to go on a summer special itinerary.

So, the question is how much summer special itinerary will they do? Most of the other cruise lines do anywhere from 15 to 22 cruises, averaging about 18, for the Alaska season, for example. That doesn't necessarily include their repositioning from their home port. But, could Disney get by with doing on 8 or 10 special cruises? probably. What if they did Hawaii? That would mean more LA port stops which would be included and move the drop dead day out. So, I guess I'm comfortable saying that the repo departure will likely be somewhere between Jan 6th and May 22nd. That 10 week deal (12 week hiatus from LA) would yield a March 13th drop dead date and an approximate Feb 26th repo date (assuming 15 day repo).

BTW, if it's Jan 6th, it can't go to CC on the 7th as the Magic is there.

My guess is still that they will try to get her to the west coast in advance of the spring break season.

" clauses".....i believe, disney always cover their primary intentions

...based on their be$t interests. anyhoo...i still believe this cruise

will be in march or april. [ based on disney thinking, on how to
get the mo$t...out of it]

of course, ju$ ....a guess. :wizard:

So, are you saying that you're not buying into my conspiracy theory? :rotfl2: When was the last time they scheduled both ships to be docked at the same port at the same time?

The Magic and the Wonder were in Nassau last fall because of a hurricane... but it's a sight I'd definately want to see... (I bet people on Carnival don't get excited to see another ones of their ships... :rolleyes1)
