Wonder's EBPC 9/12/14 Who's Going With Us!

FE's-- sound like fun but could you please share more info. I know these are really basic questions but we've never been involved and have never even seen these on either of our two prior Disney cruises (Wonder, Dream.)
Questions:
Do you hand a basket, tote or hook or what on your Fish? You hang a Fish Extender --- see below. To tote them to everyone's room.... This is where I felt like "The Crazy Box lady on the boat." I had a QVC box filled with gifts and we walked around the boat- I owe my cabin mate a drink afterwards. pirate:
How often do you give something? Any price or type of gift considerations? One a cruise. Unless it was someone's birthday. I gave a fun gift for birthdays or someone was sick, so I put an extra magazine in their FE (because how much would that suck?!). For me flying in from other side of the country (for my Caribbean cruises), space was the biggest issue. So I find small but fun things. My sister and I last cruise putzed around Ikea and found idea. This cruise... I think because I will be flying to where my friends/family are, I can send things to my best friend's house or my grandparents house.
Do you get a 'cabin' to be your 'giftee' or do you get an individual in the cabin? Last cruise I gave a cabin gift and then because I noticed I would get candy before a movie and that would get $$$$, I gave full sized candy bars with "sweet!" as a bookmark for the kids.
Is there a FE get together at some point to meet the others? COLOR="SeaGreen"]We did it the 1 or 2nd day of the cruise.[/COLOR]
Thanks and really appreciate your time![
This is mine. I got 2 oven mitts from the dollar store, and yarn. The Mickey is a patch my coworker gave me and I made it into a pin. Oh and that's my door... and my teddy bear. I am going to make a new FE that looks more traditional, with a Kim twist.

This was the door next to us. They were super creative and one night pirates took over their door. pixiedust:

HOW DID YOU GET PICTURES TO POST? I spent an hour yesterday watching their video tutorials, cropping, resizing a picture -and got it small enough- yet, NOTHING would post. I was just trying to put a profile picture up. I'm at a loss. Any help or guidance you have would be appreciated.
THANKS!
Maria

Hope this thread will help you.

Great photo's there #1Yepod!!! Thanks for sharing them with us. Hope you decide to join us on this cruise. :cool1:

You are very welcome. We took over 3000 pictures on this cruise and then edited them down to around 1700. We also did a photo share with other disers, so I spent a very long time going through pictures.

It was definitely one of our favorite vacations and doing the EBPC would be so cool seeing it all from the other direction. Timing is right, San Diego to Port Canaveral is perfect, but we have commitment issues with anything over a year away.

One note to all and a word of caution. When you hang your fish extender up on your fish by your cabin door, please affix the fish extender with plastic ties to the fish. In Sept. 2011 DW and I took a B2B cruise on the Disney Dream. On our first leg of the B2B we did not participate in that fish extender exchange, but we did in the second part of the cruise. We had a great time and all went well until the last day. We had gone back to our room to start the unpleasant task of packing up for the end of our cruise. I checked our fish extender when we got back to the room but it was empty. Only about 5 minutes had gone by and we heard someone at the door. We thought someone was putting something in the fish extender. I opened our door and our fish extender was gone. Someone had stolen it. We had it personalized with our family name so no one else could use it. I checked with guest services and no one had turned anything in. I called DCL when we got home and talked to a very nice lady there and again nothing. I have read on here where this has been a problem on some cruises for some reason. This was not an expensive item, but it was the idea that someone stole it that bothered us so much. So on our last cruise I tied ours up so good, I almost couldn't get it off!!!:rotfl2: The fish extender exchange is a fun activity we enjoy doing, and we refuse to let this stop us from participating.

THANKS to all who posted replies on the FE. I do believe we'll sign up... If I can find the list again! We have a few vacations between now and the cruise but, so far, this sounds like it will be the most fun!

Wow.... I was very close to Salisbury on Mother's Day. We had dinner at Not Your Average Joe's in Newburyport. It was great.... beautiful day.... we strolled around town a bit after we ate. We were at my daughter's house in Wells, ME for the weekend, so it was a short jaunt down to Newburyport. I grew up in Acton, MA.

We live north of the Bar Harbor area... probably about a 5-hour drive north of you. Do you ever get up to Bar Harbor at all? From our back deck we look at Cadillac Mt. in Acadia National Park.

Karen- we'll be on the RCCL Brilliance of the Seas this fall and we do dock in Bar Harbor. Any recommendations on getting to and touring in Arcadia Nat'l Park? What do you think of the Oceanarium? We'll walk the historic old town but your recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks!

Maria, You are welcome for any help I may have given. Others posted GREAT replies too. Thank you all for your help in explaining the FE. Also, Maria, I am glad you got my PM. This is going to be a great cruise.

To sign up for the FE, go back to page 1 - the very first post. There is a link there that will take you to the list to sign up for the FE.

Hi Maria,

Bar Harbor will be a fun stop for you. The harbor itself is lovely, and it's fun to just sit on a bench on the green and watch the activity. I've never been to the Oceanarium, so I can't comment on that, but as far as getting around in Acadia National Park, you can take the free Island Explorer shuttle buses, sponsored by LL Bean, that go all around the island. You can see the routes on their website, http://exploreacadia.com/. It's a great way to see the sights. We often park outside town and use the shuttles ourselves

There are lots of restaurants in Bar Harbor if you're hungry, and several ice cream shops.... our favorite is Ben and Bill's on Main Street. You can even get lobster ice cream there, lol, as well as wonderful fudge and other candy. Lots of shops to browse as well.

I'm sure you'll find plenty to do on your day there, and the fall weather should be perfect for exploring the island. Feel free to send me a private message if you have any more questions.

Here's a little tip to those of you planning on going to the Disney parks in Anaheim before the cruise: If you have a no-expiration ticket pass to WDW, you actually can use one of those days to get into DL and CA!!! Go to the gate, not the guest service window. Present your unexpired multi-day pass. The CM will verify it and come back with a multipark one day pass for you to use. :cheer2: It is a wonderful example of Disney hospitality. We went to DL/ CA in April and this service made our day. We have a ten-no-expire ticket (nine now!) and that was a great help for the budget....

BEVERLY,
I misplaced the email reply to our sign up and GAVE YOU THE WRONG CABIN NUMBER!!! We had changed it to be closer to our friends and I gave you our original cabin. Please message me the email to make the correction, unless this will do it. We are in 7068 not 7060. THANKS!
Maria & Brian

Hotel-wise it is really up to your budget and preferences. Unlike WDW where Disney hotels are more convenient, DL has numerous nearby hotels that are a short walk to the park. Here's my list of favorites:

Of course any of the big name hotels are nice. They range in price but none of them are as expensive as the Disney hotels.

Howard Johnson's: this is a DIS board favorite. It's older but well kept up. You can get a park view room and get a view of the fireworks that rivals even the Disney hotels. It is an 8 minute walk from hotel to main gate. During the walk you pass both Mimi's (for a nice breakfast) or McDonald's for a cheap one. I love this place but make sure you don't get a room by the highway. Another bonus: they don't kill you with extra fees.

Homewood Suites: this is a decent place. For about the same price as an "across the street resort" you get a suite with a kitchenette. Free breakfast in the morning and sometimes a free dinner at night. Nearly all Anaheim resorts nickel and dime you to death with extra fees and this one is no different. There is a shuttle to DL (at a cost) and it is right across the street from Target for grocery shopping and a hop from Joe's Crab Shack (one of my favorite places to eat.). Biggest drawback. It's a long walk to the park. Better to drive or take the bus.
This April we stayed at the Sheraton Park Hotel :) on Harbor BLVD and had a great experience. We walked maybe four blocks, about 1/3 mile or so, to the entrance to DL, and it was somewhere in the range of $139 a night. Hope that helps. BTW you can use an unexpired WDW pass to get into the parks....

Heads up though... Anaheim isn't as "Disney magic" as Disneyland. That area especially. I ran a preschool around there and it was broken into many of times. It's fine during the day, at night is kinda' sketchy. Last time I was there I was overly tired and forgot this (worked NOC shift with a combative patient that actively was trying to kill me, took a shuttle to Sea-Tac from my island 90 minutes from Sea-Tac, flew to Southern California, had my uncle drive us straight to Disneyland, and then played around the parks. I thought it was a great thing to walk through the parking-staff, down an alley, to our hotel at like midnight... by myself). Yep, got a very nice "you know how dumb that was?" lecture by my family. :D My point- be careful.

Hi! Booked this cruise while on the WBPC this year, had a great time! We will probably book the repo from Vancouver to San Diego also since we have to fly to Vancouver anyway. It will be me Janice and my son Trevor.

Welcome aboard! I should really just book the Vancouver to San Diego repo because it's closer to drive to Vancouver than Sea-Tac. But I get to go home flying into Ontario. :upsidedow

Well we live in Whitehorse Yukon, so to go anywhere we have the option of flying to either Vancouver, Calgary or Edmonton. By booking the 4 day repo it saves us having to fly from Vancouver to San Diego. That's what I'm telling myself anyway...

Nerdy idea I am throwing out there:

My friends and I are big readers. We are going to be on a 14 day cruise away from... a lot with a lot of sea days. I think I want to organize a book exchange. I'll leave a bag outside my cabin door (maybe 2 haven't thought this through all the way)... take a book leave a book? At the end we'll give the leftover books (or left books) at guest relations/services for the cast and crew's library. Like? Someone mentioned it on the facebook fish extender group and I like the idea....
:listen::banana: Open to ideas and thoughts.

Love this idea. I'm one of those people who prefers a book over a kindle and usually bring at least half a dozen books when I cruise. Is there a list somewhere of organized events, FE roll call etc.?
