Wondering how the Direct DVC Waitlist Resorts are doing

I'm thinking about calling up DVC as a prospective direct buyer to ask about how [usually] very popular direct resorts are doing in re: to their waitlists. Thinking that if there is a time to get a direct VGF or VGC contract, now may be it.

I'll give updates after I call tomorrow :)

They have not been ROFRing much for several months and those 2 resorts are old enough that there probably wouldn't be many defaulting on loans so I don't see that DVC's inventory would have grown at either of them. Never hurts to ask though!

That's certainly what I am thinking too. But at the same time, if they have people on the WL, I don't know why they wouldn't scoop contracts on the resale market to make a quick buck.

That just has rarely been their course of action. The preference really has been to get people to buy the current resorts they are selling that they already have funds tied up. They make more doing that.

Makes sense! I'll update tomorrow :) Love the corgi gif.

I've been on the waitlist for VGC for 2 years so I finally decided to buy a resale contract. The Disney sales agents won't give you a timeframe. I've tried several times, lol. In March, my assigned Disney sales agent finally called me to tell me that Disney had 51 points to sell. I decided to pass because it didn't make financial sense for us - the only reason I wanted to buy direct from them was to get the direct benefits, which would only happen if I purchased 100 points direct from Disney. And since it took almost 2 years to get 51 points, who knows how much longer it would be to get the remaining points. Anyway, even though I am in the process of purchasing a resale contract, my name is still on the Disney waitlist.

Does anybody have a sense of what the waitlist looks like the PBV, or is it totally opaque?

I'll be in the market for 250-300 PBV points in the next few months, and am considering buying via resale and then adding on 125 (if rumours are to be believed) direct. But if buying that direct contract isn't a feasible path, I'd shop for a larger resale contract instead.

When I first contact them about buying direct my impression that pretty much everything was available. PVB definitely was.

Why not try to get your foot in the door at 100 points before it goes up?

When I spoke to my guide last Thursday he basically was saying all wdw resorts are available for immediate purchase. You can still get in at 100 points for full member benefits if that's why you want to buy direct and buy the rest resale.

Thanks to db24 and Lva5 for the insight!

I'll look into moving quickly, given the rumoured impending increase.

We asked our guide this summer when we were purchasing a contract at Riveria. Our guide told us they weren't adding anyone to the waitlist. As a result, we now have a resale VGC contract being sent to ROFR tomorrow.

Just to be clear on Poly, I'm sure they have points as long as you want Feb-Sept UY. Oct and Dec they have been telling people they don't currently have points for.

They didn't tell me they didn't have points but that they weren't offering those use years currently.

I found them to be negotiable. YMMV.

We also just bought direct, and our guide mentioned that they had availability at all the resorts as well.

I just bought direct at Animal Kingdom Lodge and the agent said they had lots of resort availability - he said they’d been buying back all through the pandemic (which I know they haven’t as they didn’t exercise ROFR for months). They’re pretty cagey when you call up but I got the impression they have availability at all the WDW resorts.

Do you mean that's because they don't have 2019 points in order to sell the contracts right now? And on 10/01 they'll probably be able to sell October UY because they'll have to give 2020 points with the contract.

From what some guides have told members trying to add on, it's more than that. Some of us think that they used / reserved some of their own points to help mitigate the availability issues due to the pandemic. As you know, they extended some banked points originally from 2018 and about 4 months of 2019 points had no matching availability.

Like all things Disney, there seems to be exceptions, though, so we really don't know.
