live music. On the Magic, lo those many years ago, there was none (that i saw, at least). Except for piano on formal night (which was great)

BUT

a different thread and Love Boat reruns made me think about how nice it would be for live (simple) music to be on deck or lobby or wherever at random times....i mean simple, like a keyboard or saxophone or some such.

ARE there such things (our next cruise is the fantasy) or is this just another dumb idea of mine......

We had live music in some form or another on our Panama Canal cruise practically every day. Either a guitar duo at the adult pool or a 60s band at the family pool, pianist in the Cadillac Lounge. I didn't think live music on the cruises was that unusual.

There is always some type of house band somewhere, on the Fantasy when we sailed last, it was Good Times Inc. There was also a wonderful woman and a guy who sang in the atrium, piano bars, and adult spots during other points.

Look at the navigator. There are typically 4 or 5 performers/ groups on any ship at any given time. At least there have been in all the 9 cruises we've done.

there are NO LONGER any "house bands" on any of the ships. But LIVE music is more accessible than ever. The bands were not bringing enough people into the adult nightclub venues. So they have changed to DJ's. What DCL has not figured out is that the VOLUME that they play music at runs most of the people off (yes I now fall in that category .... "If its Too LOUD, You're Too OLD!!") 99% of the people in WaveBands / Fathoms / The Tube... leave as soon as the "nightly show" is over. My ears start bleeding (no not really) as soon as they start the music.

all live music at solo or duo "acts".

On the Magic you should find live music in: Keys, Promenade Lounge, D Lounge (infrequently) and the Atrium. Sometimes up by either the Adult pool or Family pool.

DCL has done a great job of finding talented solo / duo acts. Sometime after Easter, my new favorite artist on the ships, Clara Oman will be back onboard the Magic - she's humble, very talented, has a beautiful voice .... And ladies, she has quite the collection of hats and shoes!! Lots of times she will take request for songs or artists or style. One time someone got her talking about friends and then she played Carol King "You've Got a Friend" and then very subtly slid into "You've Got a Friend In Me" from Toy Story. She did many "mash ups" like that. Heck she even did a long mashup of John Denver songs.

Blech. I can see the need to change, but Disney will never truly be a night owls ship for adults. Since most people are on 'family' vacations with children, they all have to get up for excursions, or otherwise be responsible for their well being throughout the trip. A shame about the bands, but am happy for live ambiance music.

Just off the Wonder and live music was present somewhere every day. Piano in the Cadillac Lounge every evening. Playing/singing singles or duos most afternoons or evenings in the atrium, the Promenade Lounge, and at the adult pool. Live music at least once in the sports bar.

The Fantasy had live music in the atrium around dinner times, and from what I recall it was most nights if not all. My little girl loved dancing to them and just watching the instruments. I can check Navigators and see if they listed which acts.
