Me again :)

I just spoke w/ a guide today for the first time. They are sending me info but I just had to say I was VERY excited to hear they do your grocery shopping for you for $6 plus the cost of groceries???? REALLY!??!?!?:worship: And there are things like colanders and such there so you don't have to worry about that stuff? Oh MAN! I am so IN! Crossing fingers!

BTW, the guide I spoke to was really friendly, but it felt a little pushy. Should it have felt that way?

Now I have to debate about waiting to refi the house and using some extra $ from that to buy in...OR financing through Disney. I'm torn because I don't need the 160 points a year BUT they would be nice. :rolleyes1

The DVC Grocery delivery is only the items that are available at the resort stores, DVC does not actually "go grocery shopping" for you, but there are two major grocery shopping services, wegoshop and garden grocer.

Typically, DVC guides are not pushy at all. Mine has been wonderful and I never felt that way.

Doing Disney financing is easy. I signed up when I did my BLT points just because of the ease. I planned on doing other financing and figured I could just pay off Disney once that cane through. It ended up working out sooner rather than later and I just called up and cancelled the financing piece but it was nice.

If you know you are doing the refi, you can sign up for Disney and then when the other comes through, just pay off Disney. Disney financing does not show up on your credit and is treated as a mortgage so the interest may be deductible. The rate is higher than most, but in the short term, it is not a bad thing. And, if you need to delay your contract a bit, Disney will work with you. In June, I had them delay my final charge to the card for over a month so that it hit my credit card right after the closing date in July. That means I won't have to actually pay for it until August.

Plus, if you have a Disney Visa, you can get 6 months, 0% interest on the down payment. They advertise only on the first $2500, but I have recently gotten it for amounts much much higher.

Good luck!!!

THANKS! :goodvibes:goodvibes Much to chew on.

HMMM. That was a little misleading then. She didn't mention that.:coffee: MUST read the details.

Better take off those rose colored glasses and take some time to learn more about the DVC. The food selection is limited and sold at the inflated Disney price.

IMHO Disney is slowly changing into a typical time share. Added pressure is being placed on the Guides to make sales so they are starting to get pushy and don't have the time to be a "friend" like they used to.

Thanks for your thoughts. I don't have rose colored glasses, :3dglasses I'm just now finding out that what she was telling me isn't quite the truth. I would never shop in Disney resorts for groceries. One thing here and there is fine, but I'm well aware of the markups. I have yet to get the info direct from them and I, for sure, am doing my footwork and reading up before we sign on ANY dotted line.

I used the resort grocery last year and it was okay, but I felt like we ate processed or "junk" food for a week. I didn't know about Garden Grocer at the time, but plan to use them the next trip. I think we will be eating much healthier.

That was the first time I had ever had a vacation where we cooked in-house and I loved it. I didn't realize how much time we spent on previous trips just traveling back and forth to restaurants, not to mention the time spent there. We felt like we had a more relaxing vacation.

Good luck!

I was worried about you for a minute but I can see now that I don't need to be. :goodvibes

DVC makes sense for many if you would vacation at WDW anyway and you are looking for a long term room discount.

Yeah, I think it does for us because we can't seem to pry our butts away from Disney for any other vacations elsewhere and when we go we prefer deluxes.
Once in, our biggest issue will be getting there. Which is actually the biggest reason we don't go annually. :cloud9: We'll see tho! LOTS to read and think about. :surfweb: We're just so into our DCL cruise coming up, it's hard to split my attentions. :upsidedow

P.S.
I wanted to say I REALLY appreciate the honest opinons and personal experiences. It's easy to find all the good about DVC, but there has to be some other sides to consider as well. It's best to go in armed and aware! :thumbsup2 Then you can only blame yourself if you screw up.

If you are going on a DCL cruise, you may want to wait to see what the incentives are during the cruise. Typically, they have some additional incentives that are not offered to those on 'land'. Not always, and it isn't always a lot (unless you are buying a lot of points), but it could be just enough!

Good luck and have fun!!!

Does Garden Grocer or Wegoshop leave the groceries with bell services or do I have to wait around in the room for delivery? I was going to do a stop in Publix with our car service upon arrival, but now Jetblue moved up our flight an hour and with the reservations I'm making for our first day there, that's the hour I'd have used for shopping.

We'll need Folgers coffee, 1/2 & 1/2, filters, bottled water (preferably deer park or poland spring), wine :goodvibes, beer:cool1:, some nachos and cheese, snack items and a few breakfast items. If I could get all this through DVC stores, I'd do it in a heartbeat. This trip is about saving time and convenience to spend more time having fun! This is the no husbands, no kids trip:banana:!

Just an idea..if you don't need 160 points you can buy resale to get a smaller amount. Once you buy you are just like any other DVC member, but you you won't have to purchase their minimum to get in. That's what I did, then I bought VGC and I still don't have the 'minimum'.

I've never used either service. I wonder, because you want wine, if they perhaps both would require you to be present. Otherwise, what would stop someone underage from ordering drinks?

:confused3

I really don't want to have to stop in Publix. That's about an extra 45 minute trip, but probably my best bet. We'll see.

Do the DVC stores sell wine and beer? I know it's probably a fortune, but again, time and convenience.

Yes, the DVC stores have a small selection of wine and beer. It varies a bit from resort to resort, but it is an extremely small selection.

I called DVC directly just to satisfy my own curiosity. We are about ready to make a purchase and are looking for just the right contract at BCV or BWV. As I explained to the guide Epcot is really our base for our trips. We enjoy all the parks of course, but just seem to spend more time at Epcot than anywhere else. She was relentless in trying to sell me on BLT "oh it's so beautiful, just a short monorail ride to Epcot". I said yes, but just not the same as a quick walk to the international gateway. She then moved on the the much higher maintenance fees, the contract expirations etc...I told her when the older contracts expire we will be 80 and 90, she still would not budge. BLT is beautiful, but just not for us. It really felt like an old style car buying experience.

Six beers at the Wilderness Lodge Mercantile will run you a bit over $30. IMO, that's not simply expensive, but borders on exorbitant. I'm sure the wine and liquor selections are similarly overpriced.

There are a couple of Hess gas station/quickie mart stores on property that sell most of the common staples for reasonable prices. It's a good alternative to the Disney stores and much quicker than driving off-site to a supermarket for common items if you're able to get to one of them.

I agree with waiting to purchase on the cruise since you have 1 coming up. You paid for the cruise so you may as well get the incentives they offer onboard. It will most likely be better than what you can get now. If not, call your guide when you get off the ship.

Just off the cruise last month and was offered $16 off per point for BLT.
I had to be reallll strong!:goodvibes
