We stayed at the Poly Nov. 11-16 (first time there). We LOVED it!!! I didn't make any room requests and decided to go with the luck of the draw with the Garden View room we had booked.

We were placed in Figi #2316. At first I was a little upset with not having a balcony. I truly believe for the price of deluxe resorts, they should have a balcony! But I hadn't requested one so I accepted our fate with no regrets. As it turned out, I doubt we would've used the balcony much. When we had free time at the resort we spent more time exploring the beautiful grounds than in our room.

Here was our view (from left to right):

We loved the location!! It was so quick and easy to the restaurants and main pool. There was a wonderfully quiet beach to the left of our building where we could privately watch the fireworks over the castle (on non luau nights). We could hear the water parade and fireworks from our room each night and would rush outside to watch them (on the nights we "turned in" early).

The only downfall of the location (for us) was the longer walk to the transportation center. Not a big deal, certainly not enough to keep us from requesting that building again. I thought the close proximity to the main building was more worth it.

Thanks for you're review and those pictures you posted look amazing. :thumbsup2

After seeing them I can't for next Saturday when my family and I are checking in to the Polynesian for our 1st stay there.

I have to admit I was more impressed with the resort than I expected to be. Last year I was so pumped up to stay at the AKL and we had a bad experience there, although we felt it was a beautiful resort. We felt the staff was very cold and distant; we never received "Jambos" and felt unimportant as guests.

Not so at the Poly. All of the staff was very friendly and eager to make our stay enjoyable. We heard "Aloha's" everywhere we went, even from housekeeping passing us in the halls!

We enjoyed Captain Cooks for quick meals. Suprisingly, we didn't care for Kona at all. Even went back a second time for lunch, hoping it was just a fluke the first time (dinner on our first night). It wasn't bad, but didn't meet our expecations based on other's reviews. Blame it on a very well done prime rib (ordered medium rare!), cramped dining (squeezed between 2 other larger tables) and a terrible dessert.

Ohana's breakfast was tasty. Unfortunately all of the characters didn't come to our table. We were done and paid and sat waiting for Lilo & Stitch. I didn't feel the money was worth the character experience for us. We are a family of 2 so we finish eating faster than large groups. We learned that lesson the hard way on this trip. Live and learn I guess! :confused3

But really, the Poly is a wonderful resort!!

Thank you for the review. Your pictures are beautiful but I only have one question. Were you in a garden view room or a lagoon view? It looks like a great location.

That was a garden view! We overlooked the marina, so I thought it was still a great view. In fact, I'd rather have that view than the lagoon, unless the lagoon view showed the castle.

Thanks for those great shots!! Fiji looks like a great place if you can snag that water view. I stayed in tahiti in October and I loved the proximity to the TTC, so I am leary of giving it up. I found however, that with the convience of the TTC, we spent little time in the GCH and missed out on its beauty a lot. I guess they all have their pros and cons. My DBF and I am most likely going to stay at the Poly next October and I think I am going to go with the luck of the draw this time (but secretly hoping for Fiji)

Thanks again!

Thanks for the review!

When my DD8 and I stayed at the Poly last December we stayed in Tuvalu but loved the view Fiji had when we walked by it each day. Gotta love the view of the water for the price of a garden room.

So sorry to hear about your experience at 'Ohana. We've done the breakfast there three (3) times with just my DD and I and all the characters came around to us in a timely manner. We haven't had a bad dining experience at Kona or Captain Cooks so I guess we lucked out there. :)

Great reveiw!!! We are arriving tomorrow for a weeks stay. We haven't stayed there since Dec 2004. I'm all packed and just dropped dog off at vet for boarding.I just can't wait!!!:santa:

So glad you had a wonderful time! We love the Poly!! Sorry to hear that your 'Ohana breakfast was'nt great. We do it every year and have never had a bad experience! Thanks for sharing! :)

Thanks for your review! 9 more days until my first stay at the Polynesian  ! I can't wait. I too have a Garden View Room booked and didn't request any particular location.

What a beautiful view! When we stayed at the Poly in Sept we were put in Fiji on the second floor as well, and our one request was that we have a balcony! We were facing the opposite direction, away from the water. We really needed a balcony, as we had two napping little ones, so we went back and requested a move and got a ground floor in Tokelau. We did use the balcony a LOT. But if we had gotten a view like you had, it would have been VERY hard to pass it up!!! Fiji is so convenient to everything!

Shyjade, sorry about your experience at Kona. We ate there three times in September and it was WONDERFUL each time. Great food, great waitstaff, and really yummy Lapu-lapus.
