Sending prayers and positive energy to your daughter. I also had a friend who had this procedure. It seems to be very common.

Happy Birthday Kristopher. Hope you had a great day celebrating!
My husband had cardiac ablation twice to eliminate VT. It is a simple procedure. He only felt a little warmth in his chest. We are looking forward to meeting you on the cruise. Susan

I'm a celiac, which means I'm gluten-intolerant. This is a medical necessity and not a choice for me, much like an allergy. Are there any other celiacs here, or is anyone else gluten-allergic or intolerant? I'd like to trade thoughts and information about working with Disney on food.

BTW, this will be our 7th DCL cruise, so I've been through this before, but haven't yet had a completely satisfactory experience when it comes to food on DCL. I'm trying to strategize for this cruise, partly because it's 14 days, and partly because I'd like to get my money's worth!

Anyone else in the same boat (so to speak…)?

:wave2: Yes, I've been gluten-free since December last year. I'm not diagnosed intolerant, so it is a choice, but I removed gluten from my diet as part of trying different things to manage a chronic immune system condition, and it was far more beneficial to my health than I expected. A few months in, I slipped and ate a naan bread, and was very ill the next day, so I haven't risked it since at all since.

This is the first cruise I've been gluten-free on. It's noted on the reservation so I am hoping for a relatively trouble-free experience. Would certainly be interested in any tips others have! Hopefully Mickey bars are gluten free??

Celiac disease is an autoimmune disease, so you might be a celiac. It certainly sounds like it from the little you've said. There's a fairly inexpensive ($30?) blood test available now that can give you a pretty good indication of whether you are or not, and I'd strongly recommend that you get it. Go to your pharmacist and ask if they can administer it. If not, go to your doctor and get it. You will need to eat gluten ahead of the test for it to work correctly (which is a drag, I know), but celiac disease can have other, important consequences that you might need to know about. It has been linked, for instance, to lymphoma, although the connection is not clear-cut.

What's more, someone who is directly related to a celiac (son, father, daughter, sister, etc.) can have as high as a 1-in-4 chance of being a celiac as well, so if you know you're a celiac, you can watch to see if your relatives are having similar problems. This has helped both my son and a nephew, who both suddenly (and separately) developed strange symptoms which turned out to be caused by the onset of celiac disease.

You might not be celiac, merely gluten-sensitive, but it's worth knowing. I actually believe that everyone has a sensitivity to wheat gluten, but that it's a spectrum, with some people (like me) being very sensitive, and others being so mildly sensitive that they don't even notice it.

PM me if you'd like to discuss this further. I was diagnosed as a celiac more than 30 years ago, and have a reasonable familiarity with the issues related.

As for Mickey bars, like everything else, the only way to be sure is to read the label first! When you are celiac, there's no alternative, especially as manufacturers often change ingredients without warning.

Hope this helps! :flower3:

See You Real Soon! (less than 2 months, now!)

:banana: I am beyond excited for this cruise. Bucket list ... Check...
Can not wait.

Totally on my bucket list too! Glad I'm not the only one. My grandparents LOVED this cruise (with different lines) so much they've done it multiple times.

So today's list of cruise related tasks:
-gluing FE gifts (more!!!)
- gluing our clipboard (I have a yellow/white chevron clipboard for messages for my group.)
-running over to my parents and getting my suitcases...

Emily and I started freaking out that this is happening.

Anyone remember if the hair dryers on the Wonder are only in the bathroom or if they are in the drawers at the desk? Also what watts? I have thick hair and debating on taking my dryer.

Thanks !!

Yes, I am gluten-intolerant, and unable to eat most dairy, many preservatives, and I am allergic to yeast. Ha ha. I actually have a fine time dining in the parks. The chefs are so helpful! I figured worst case I could just eat plain meats and salad or steemed veggies. But now I'm worried, why have your experiences been so-so. Can you give me any advice. I know its going to be tough....I usually bring my own food, and our family does not eat out much because of the preservative thing.

My concerns are more that I want more than just plain meat, salad, and steamed veggies than I'm concerned I'll get gluten-contaminated food. Once your servers know about your food issues, they will work with you to make sure you get what you want.

Also make sure you've contacted DCL before you embark to let them know about your food issues. They will put it on your record, and whenever you show up at a dining room, they'll ask your stateroom number, and will print out a slip for the server that lists what you must avoid. The chefs are very good, as are the servers, but it is important that you let them know at your first meal what you need.

Also, when at a buffet, tell any food service person that you want to speak to a chef, and one will come out. Tell him/her what you are allergic to, and they'll walk you through the line, telling you what you can and can't have – then will go back to the kitchen and bring you a plate with what you want. This avoids cross-contamination from people serving themselves with a spoon from one dish, then putting it in another dish as well.

I don't have trouble getting GF food, but I want to enjoy the food experience, not just endure it! :goodvibes

Hope this helps,
Richard
