Wonderful Panama Canal Sept 2014

Happy Halloween everyone!!!pixiedust:pixiedust: It's wet and very windy at my house:( Only had 2 trick or treaters. What ever will I do with all of the leftover candy :confused3

What left overs! I was inundated! Had to shut down my show by 8pm becaus I ran out!

Our door bell rang two times last night. There were 2 trick-or-treaters the first time, and 5 the next time. And that was all. :confused3

Just checked the DCL website and there are now verandah staterooms available. But they are now almost $1500.00 more then when the cruise was first announced. Glad we booked early!!! Inside staterooms are now going for $4075 to $4691. This cruise must be filling up. (It must be our magnetic personalities!!!):cool1::woohoo:

I just finished reading David McCoullough's book about the building of the canal. Fascinating stuff. I am sure there will be a guide book on board, but it will be totally overpriced. There is one on Amazon that is rated well. I think it is called Cruising the Panama Canal.

I have Cruising the Panama Canal 1914-2014. It looks good. It does have a history of the canal, plus a detailed description of the passage through. I like David MCullough's books, so I may look for that one, too.

I'm getting the David McCullough book... Just trying to figure out my book schedule, although I may put it on my mom's Kindle (I have a thing about kindles and ebooks. I like real books)- so I could reference it on the boat. The Panama Canal book I bought is making it's way around my group of friends, which I love books people I care for have read and leave notes.

I guess here we have a thousand trick or treaters at my house normally. Buy $100 in candy. This year, we had 200ish and my mom was dumping whole bags into kids bags by the end of the night....Love Halloween.

I keep seeing these awesome luggage sets on Overstock.com that would be awesome to buy.... Must stop looking!

Well, I had to ask. Some people just are weird like that. :)

Give us all the dirty on the Magic. How was your room? Any major issues?

Our verandah had paint chips on the floor. There was pealing paint and rust in multiple places. Much like photos you have already seen. We got a letter the night before we got to Cozumel saying they would be working on our verandah. When we got back from Cozumel all issues had been fixed. Mind you we never complained about it so they must have a list of repairs that they need to still do.

Our first morning we had water dripping from a vent. We reported it go our host and it never happened again.

Laundry could only be done on deck 6 and they had no irons anywhere. The washers and dryers on deck 6 were all free however.

Fathoms
really liked the changes. We also won the adult costume contest held there

Keys
really like the changes they made here also.

O'Gill's Pub
we used to hang out at diversions a lot but must admit this was a good place to watch a game and have a beer.

Carioca's
never was a fan of Parrot Cay so this was a nice change

Cabanas
the buffet moves so much better now. The free flowing idea really works better. The only part I thought was odd was the fruit is in a glass case and you have to ask for it.

Never saw the show we were at Palo's that night. The pictures on the walls constantly change now which was fun to watch.

Aquadunk
Never tried it but everybody who did that I spoke to loved it.

All in all we had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to book the magic again. Please let me know if there is any other questions.

I want that neck thing!!!! I sleep ugly!!!!
(Totally kidding. I'm the gal that wears the snuggy to the airport though).

Hey everyone...we are BACK!!! Our handfasting was amazing...what a great party!! Good food, excellent cake all in all a good time was had by all. We were so wound up we went to bed at 2am and were up at 6!! Took off on our driving trip to WDW (from Bethlehem,PA). We arrived at WDW on Monday night (the 14th) and then boarded the Fantasy on the 19th. The Magic was in port as her cruise was delayed/cancelled due to all the repairs still needing to be done and the broken glass (all of it I heard). What a great cruise we had...we did nothing...absolutely nothing! The cabana on Castaway Cay - so worth it! Then the drive home...via Skyline Drive in Va. We managed to see 14 sunrises that morning. So beautiful.

So, my wonderful, amazing wife and I are finally back on the boards and on FB. If anyone needs to be added to the FB page...please PM me and include your FB email address.

Bittersweet to be home, we are now having to go to work and be apart after almost 19 days of togetherness (we love it)....part 1 of the honeymoon is over - getting ready for part 2,3,4,5,6,7!!!

We have a packing lists all set for each trip, getting the reservations in place. For this trip (#6) we have our San Diego hotel, rental car from Long Beach to San Diego all set. We are awaiting Southwest and Jet Blue to announce their schedules to book our flights. And the 7 month DVC window to open for Disneyland. (my wife's first visit to the west coast!)

Been reading - am all caught up now...here are a few comments on posts...

so next week i can book my plane tickets and the prices are good but i do have a question is chicago o hare easy to get around when u are connecting
I have NEVER had a good exchange at O'Hare...seems like there is always construction and one has to walk forever...just my experience - I stay clear of that one if I can!

I too have a question for anyone out there who may know. Does the Wonder still do the character breakfast? Donna and I were talking about this towards the end of our Oasis cruise. I told her I would ask our fellow cruisers going with us on the Panama Canal cruise. Anyone know? Thanks in advance.:thumbsup2
As far as I know they all do the character b'fast...some are more involved than others. The last cruise on the Magic (in NYC) we had it. also on the Hawaii cruise on the Wonder in 2011...

Hey everybody, checkout the link above. Both the Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy are in Port Canaveral!!!:cool1::yay::cool1::yay: They are still doing some finishing touches on the Magic before she heads down to Miami for her maiden voyage after being refurbished.:thumbsup2
Yep - we were there!!! She looked odd with her stern all flattened out...heard there was LOTS of shattered glass coming across and that is why the cancelled the first cruise (delayed is more like it as I know folks who did take that first one).

Just spent this past weekend at the Science Center looking at real body parts dissected and on display
make sure you get to see a "the bodies" exhibit...most interesting for those not faint of stomach or heart!

I'm not the bit surprised it's a real product seeing the things people come up with, but glad to know you aren't serious about getting it! :lmao::lmao:
