Embarkation

Wow, what a great trip. The weather was perfect, the seas were calm and we were on a DCL ship. Our trip started on Saturday with a flight to Orlando. Our party consist of Myself and My wife both 41, our 19 year old son and his 19 year old girlfriend who had never been on a cruise or out of the country, our 14 year old son, 13 year old daughter and 10 year old daughter.

OK I know we have way to much luggage.

Calm easy flight from the Hoosier Heartland via Atlanta to Orlanda. We always stay in Orlando the night before. This trip we stayed at Embasey suites. They had a suite with two beds, a pullout and a cot. All for around $110. At the airport we collected our bags and called the hotel. Within 15 minutes the shuttle was at the airport to take us to the hotel. We walked to Tony Rommas for Dinner and then returned to get some sleep.

The next morning we woke up had breakfast at the hotel and then caught our Limo at 10:00. We used Sunshine Limo and they were nice and punctual.

We had a nice ride to the terminal and didn't have to touch our bags.

It only took a few minutes to check in and get our key to the world cards. We recieved boarding number 12. From the time they started boarding until they called group 12 was about 45 minutes.
We took a few pictures in the terminal and the wait didn't seem that long.

We toured the ship and ate at Beach Blanket Buffet. At 2:30 our room was ready and we enjoyed a brief nap.

We went to the Golden Mickeys. It was a nice start to the cruise. After that we went to Studio Sea for Mickey Mania "the game show that is insania". It was alot of fun. The first evening we ate at Parrot Cay and meet our Servers Igor and Corina.

They were great and my kids really enjoyed talking to them through out the trip. We would love to have them as servers again. We walked around the ship for a bit and went to the gift shop before heading to the room for bed. It was a great start to the cruise.

We were on this same cruise. This was our first Disney Cruise. I am glad we had some of the information from the discussion boards. We definitely had a great time, and the Wonder is a beautiful ship. I am sorry I did not get a chance to meet anyone from the boards - I missed the gathering before the cast off party. I hope everyone had a great time.

I was trying to add a picture, but I cannot figure out how to do that - any hints?

Wonderful start.

Were you able to easily fit all that luggage in your room?

We had two rooms and had plenty of space for our stuff. We were able to put some suitcases under the beds and the thicker ones went in the closet. All of our cloths fit in the closets, drawers, and steamer case. We didn't bring any extra hangers. We did put the life jackets under the bed and put shoes where the lifejackets were.

Loved your pictures!!! How was it traveling with your son's girlfriend????

It was fine. They have been dating for three years and she seems like one of the family. Its like having an extra daughter. The only difference is that she doesn't ask for money.

I was on the cruise with you as well. I didn't make it to the dis meet but had a great time with the FE's. I can't wait to read your report.

DAY 1 CASTAWAY CAY

We all slept well. No surprise the teens slept late. My wife and I woke up for the 5K at 8:30. There were 21 participants. Kenny was the Cast Member in charge. He walked us over to the map of the island and showed us the route. He led us the first mile until we arrived at the bicycle loop. He then waited and directed everyone else as they arrived. There was a variety of people who participated. There were two men who were marathon training and others who ran several times a week and there were some that walked and ran. The 5K is actually a little longer than 3.1 miles. I bet it is about 3.4 or so. After I finished Kenny was there handing out water bottles. It was a nice gift but it just had the DCL logo on it and nothing about the 5K.

We showered and ate breakfast at Beach Blanket. We gathered up the kids and headed for the beach. We were off the ship at about 10:15 so we were later than most. We didn't take the tram but walked. Along the way we took a few pictures and stopped to see Pluto.

We walked nearly to the end of the beach and found many empty chairs with and without umbrellas. We settled into our spot for the next 3 1/2 hours. Very relaxing. We took some chairs down to the waters edge. After an hour we went over to Pelicans Plunge.

The swim out is not very long and the slides were a nice new edition. After the slides DW, DS19, DD13, and I snorkeled the lagoon. We saw alot of fish and went to all of the buoys to see the underwater sights. We used a disposable underwater camera and took pictures of Minnie and Mickey.

After snorkeling we ate at Cookies. Food was very good and the ice cream was cold.

The 4 teenagers wanted to parasail and were scheduled to go up at 2:00. They went out with 6 others and had a great time. The oldest has parasailed several times and said the experience at CC was very good.

While the teens were parasailing DD10, DW and I looked for souvenirs and stayed cool in the ocean. When the teens arrived back we spent the remainder of the time on the beach. We didn't rent floats for the day but a few washed up to our feet at 3:00 and we used them until we headed back to the ship around 4:30.
DisneyWonder071.jpg

Back on board my DD10 wanted to go down the slide in the Mickey Pool.

We all headed back to the room to get dressed.

I think we saw Once Upon a Song. It was a cornucopia of disney songs sung by the the performing cast members. Some of the songs I recognized and some I didn't. We went to who wants to be a mousekateer in Studio Sea and had a good time before dinner.

Dinner was at Tritons.

The food and service was excellent. We walked around the ship and played shuffle board on Deck 4 before heading back to the room.

Nice day 1 update.

Glad to hear all that luggage fit easily in two rooms. Our family will be cruising early next year and we've just started thinking of what all to pack.

This was our first cruise ever... we were so totally excited. We got to Orlando the night before. DH surprised our girls with a limo to our hotel (it was a stretch Hummer.. very cool). We stayed at the Radisson. It was a very nice hotel with a really cool pool. The girls swam for a few hours, until I was too tired. LOL!!!
We woke up the next day so pumped for the cruise to begin. While we were in the dinning room eating breakfast I noticed a family wearing bright green shirts. They were DISers. We all hit it off really well. Our girls wanted to hang out the entire trip. I was glad that my youngest one found a friend.

There were lots of people on our shuttle to the dock. Seeing that huge cruise ship was AWESOME!!!

We checked in then got my DD her tracking device and we received our pager. We boarded the ship and was just awestruck... it was so totally cool.
The girls immediately went to the pool. DH and I sat and had a few cocktails.
After going to our staterooms, we showered and got ready for our night to begin. We had second seating for dinner at Tritons. My oldest DD (13) did not go with us, because she was not feeling well (too much swimming... LOL). We sat with a very nice family from Maryland. Our servers were AWESOME!!!!! They really made our trip!!!! We will miss them on our next cruise (they are both going to be on the Dream.. BUMMER!!!)

Headed back to the room to find several gifts in our FE. That was really neat!!!

And this was just the first few hours on the boat...
