Wonder - January 21, 2011 The Cruise To Nowhere In Particular..

Ours came out to $375 a person, I see someone said it was a cheap weekend. I'm not complaining, I'll pay any amount for Disney. We felt rocking occasionally. I remember waking up thinking we'd hit some big waves but it was us docking at whatever that was- 2am?

We were not about to waste our time re-booking onboard. Tai told us to drop the interest card and we'd get the same perks. I gave them my cell so I'll catch the call.

I thought the staff was wonderful. Some of our fellow passengers were driving me bonkers, though. I kept thinking I was glad I was only going to be around these people for 2 days rather than 15. :rotfl:

My kids passed out our FE gifts and said they ran out. I don't know if they just saw FE's and put stuff in each as they went by or what? ;)

Yeah, that was me. :) I literally live right down the street from the new stadium (close enough to walk. I wouldn't want to...but I could if I had to...) Be sure to say Hi if you ever come to see a game!

Oh ---- I just loved the CD....my daughter had it playing while we drove home and even while I unpacked...my teen boys loved your postcard~! Especially my DS18 (senior) who got accepted into TCU..... Loved it! :wizard:

And I collect magnets....they are all over my kitchen fridge..... I loved them all! ;)

Hey all - we had a fantastic time... probably the best Disney cruise we've done... shame it was so short. I'll come back and comment more later but in the meantime, all you experts...

I bought the Shutters cd, picked it up the last morning and of course now I can't find it or recall if I packed it, so I'm wondering if I left it in the room.

Who do I contact for lost and found? And if they don't have it, how do I contact Shutters staff to reorder the cd?

OMG nevermind. I just found my CD - clamped it inside my laptop... which I don't remember doing at all! Disembarkation brain- I'm still reeling from being ripped away from my beloved vacation!

hi everyone, we had a great time even though we missed the meet & i didnt run into any disers the whole trip! my only complaints were that my room was somewhat noisy & i thought the adult entertainment was lacking. I was very surprised that DCL had a juggler instead of a comedian for the second night. I am interested if anyone went to that, we saw Tron instead. Had a great dinner at Palo & hung out at the adult pool all day on saturday enjoying the great weather. Also went to the martini tasting. Didnt rebook but will when we go on our upcoming western carribean cruise in april. I thought all the CMs were great. we also ordered room service on sat. & it took forever to come but i loved having a late night mickey bar! I just wish we could have stayed longer on the boat on sunday!!!

Funny, but I really enjoyed the Crispy Cheese Ravioli (I loved how spicy it was).

We all LOVED the ravioli too. We all said it was the best of the appetizers the first night. Spicy is good. Why must everything be bland.

I wanted to make sure that all of our OBC was used for both roomsbefore we started using our reward dollars. Well, by the time we had balanced everything out, we still had over $18.00 left. I could not figure out how that was. I checked and recheck and all of the totals were correct. So, I took my mom to the gift shops (we had like 15 minutes left before they closed) and we bought a couple items that was a bit over $20.00. Of course, after we spend the "left over" and right before I get back to guess services, I realized why we still had credit left. I TOTALLY FORGOT ABOUT THE TIPS!!!! :scared1: That was what I went down to do in the first place. Fortunately, the gifts that I bought, a pin for my DH and a mug for a friend of mine, were things I would have bought anyways, so alls well that ends well.

Brenda - you sound JUST like my spouse - who wanted to know exactly what amount we had in credits - and she wanted to JUST spend enough to GET RID OF IT. We don't actually have anything we were suffering without (otherwise we would have gotten it long ago)... so she anguished for near 1+ hours to settle on things to get... and she had to have me there to share the thinking and decisions. No sweat (in some ways) as I knew when I first met my spouse that she loved to shop. And if I hoped to sharee her life then I had to get used to doing some shopping with her. SO now - after 27 years I carry her bags, follow with a book while I wait for her to try things on - and I'm right there to let her know how it looks, fits and ... you know ... how it "goes".... ? And I like the fact not too many guys go - and every time I go I re-establish how crazy I am about her that I'd sacrifice a little in following her on some of her shopping escapades. Oh - and I do a lot of "returns" cuz for some reason she HATES doing that - while I am fearless and inventive - so I get little resistance or side remarks (I guess) ... if anything I get compliments for handling it for my spouse.

And before any of the guys roll over and grumble I've been tatoo'd by my spouse as a lap dog - I must say she does all kinds of things with and for me! She's gone into paint ball battles with me - and tolerated silly escapades that only I would like to keep me company too... among other things which keep me happy with her at my side... when the other guys have thier spouses leave them to go it alone! I like having her with me on those occasions!

SO it's a two way street with us.

Spicy is bad, why can't things be bland? Seriously, I dislike spicy food, So often there is little that I care to eat, and then the whole "Spicy food doesn't like me" is also a problem.

However, I did not find anything I ate to be overly spicy. Granted I only ate in Palo and Nickola was good to point out the "spicy" stuff. But the room service fries and cheesburger talked back to me for quite a wile Saturday night. WiIth all the food choices, everyone should be happy, this cruise was a hard one for DCL, so many repeaters expecting rotations, AP Shows, etc. And so many newbies who have no idea what DCL is really like.

I hope that most of us repeaters took it for what it was, a very quick 2 nighter and the newbies, I believe, did get a good idea of what is available and offered on a DCL ship.

Our quickie recap -
Thursday - flew in with no problems into LAX, rented car from National (I get Executive status through work and we got a nice Jeep Grand Cherokee), and headed to the Crowne Plaza. Nice room, perfectly fine for Priceline ($63). Went to Acapulco for dinner, which was good - surprisingly reasonably priced for a tourist area. Kids were completely clueless this whole time, even though we were so close to the port. I would have expected them to at least guess that we were going on the Mariner again, but they had no idea. Maybe they're just dense, lol.

Friday morning - The Crowne Plaza had some water pump problem that caused all water to shut off, right around 9 am. We were fine - brushed our teeth with bottled water and had already showered... but I feel sorry for other people who were trying to get on with their day! Stopped around the corner at Jack in the Box for a quick breakfast and Payless Shoe Source next door to get new flip flops for my son who has been growing by leaps and bounds lately and outgrew his old ones.

Pull up to the port and point out the Wonder to my kids, who still aren't getting that we're going ON the ship. Had to actually say the words. They were completely blown away. So excited. I start jumping up and down as we walk toward the ship. I'm a bit of a freak. My husband is embarassed by how crazy excited I am, lol.

Check in was pretty easy. They did take awhile but these port personnel are contracted by Disney and work for different cruise lines depending on the day, so I'm not expecting a ton of that Cast Member magic from them. They were friendly and helpful enough.

Met a few wristbanders in the terminal and got a lovely goodie bag from our TAs, who were also on this cruise. We got boarding #8. I need to point out - we got #8 somewhere around the check in line but as we passed security into the waiting area, I saw #5 in the hand of the person handing them out on the other side, so they are NOT in sequential order. I should have grabbed another one from her when she asked me if I already got a #. In any case, there wasn't more than 5 minutes or so between 5 and 8, so be it.

Everything went smoothly as far as I'm concerned. We were given the option to wait a few minutes for Parrot Cay or go up to BBB. We opted to go sit outside in the sunshine. The kids were punchy to go swimming so they changed after we ate and jumped in. Still didn't see that many people at this point so I'm not sure if alot of people got on later. I went to the spa and booked appts and by this time, the room was ready so we went and unpacked. Went to the Goofy Pool to meet people and I saw CaptainCrash and (gosh I can't remember who now - sorry!) but not too many people so I guess everyone was busy with their own things, and I can't blame you because this was so short that I wanted to maximize my time too!

Yikes - this is getting long. Okay, I'll condense.
I loved the food. This was much better than the last time we cruised on the Magic 2 years ago. I want the Duck again from the 1st night. DROOL. I thought the servers did a good job. There isn't much chance for them to develop the relationship that they do on longer cruises, but I thought they were great. Our asst server was very entertaining and good-humored. Our stateroom host was busy but very attentive. Every crew member we walked by said hello and many struck up conversations. Sarah had a great time in the Lab and my son disappeared into the Edge for hours till they closed each night. Food options were plentiful and we took advantage of late night room service both nights - got right through on the first night and I let it ring about 30 rings the 2nd night but both times were delivered within 30 minutes. The staff in the spa was super nice, not pushy. I wish I could take these 2 days and multiple that by 3 to get the perfect longer cruise!

We opted to keep our luggage and walk it off ourselves. My husband read the clock wrong and we wound up getting up too early so we went up to BBB and were walking off the ship as soon as we cleared customs. There was no traffic and we were at the HoJo in Anaheim about 8:20 or so. Room was ready, and we were able to dump everything off and were at the park about 9:05. Seriously, I could not believe our pixie dust on this trip.

I know the ship was full but it didn't feel like it at all. Maybe everyone was in shows or character greeting lines. We didn't stand to wait for character photos but they did seem long. We did a few prof. photos in the atrium and they turned out good. Got the CD for $99 which I consider a bargain. I also won the Shutters drawing the first day :) so I got to take home 2 8x10s!

So in closing, let me just say that I'm sorry that I didn't get to meet more of you. If I missed anyone's wristbands still, please let me know and I'll get your money back to you. I think I got everyone though. Brenda - I'm sorry we didn't connect - I had some phone issues and didn't get a chance to call you back (though in hindsight, I guess I should have just called your room, lol). We didn't rebook since we're sailing the Dream in May and will do so then, but I am sure wishing we could get the school schedule to work right with an MR date in 2012. I'm sorry for those of you who had less than an ideal cruise. Maybe we went into it with low expectations knowing it wasn't going to be a full experience for 2 short days but it definitely surpassed our expectations and is a great memory for our family.

To each his own. :goodvibes Personally, I find that the "Heat" overpowers the taste of the food and I cannot enjoy that. It's not blandness that I want. I actually want to savor the food a bit before reach out to douse the flames.:drinking1

Right there with ya, Sista!

I had a blast on this short one. It was not everything that a DCL cruise is to me but I wasn't really expecting too much since it was so short. My family and friends really enjoyed themselves and will be that much more pleased when they do a full-on DCL cruise.

Couple of pool pix. Really though, it was not crowded or anything.

Kid Soup! That Pool was crazy. But my kids still had a blast in it!

Yeah!! I'm glad that you found it!

This was our first cruise but having been reading the disboards so much, I also knew what we were missing, so we kind of fell between being newbies and return cruises, LOL. But I also realized that it was not a normal itinerary so I didn't let it bother me that some things were missing. OK, it also helps that we are going on the Dream in April and will get the full experience then :cool1: We just enjoyed being on the ship for the first time :thumbsup2

The only thing that caught me for a loop was the attire on the second night. I could have sworn it was supposed to be cruise casual both nights but for the life of me, I can't remember what made me think that. I couldn't find anything in my documentation that said either way. But once we got to dinner the second night, I saw first hand what people on the boards have said about the dress codes. We saw a little bit of everything (including tank top, shorts and flip flops, LOL). Luckily we planned to dress up a bit both nights anyway so we didn't feel out of place with what we brought (it just wasn't semi-formal).

The Wonder is very much more casual than the Magic and I think the Magic will seem more casual than the Dream. For me, part of cruising is getting dressed nicely for dinner. I have formal stuff, not gowns, but formal pants and tops, I have cocktail attire for semi formal and I wear either dresses or nice pants and tops for cruise casual. It was very interesting to me that my husband, who was not happy about "dressing" for Palo said how people that disregard the requested attire do make for a lesser experience for those who follow the "rules". I don't let it bother me if someone shows up in what should be stopped at the door, but he is correct. Show some respect for the guidelines, for your fellow passengers, and for yourself I am amazed that people will spend the kind of money that they do on any cruise and then decide that they can dress like slpbs, because "It's my vacation". We had it happen in September on a 7 night Carnival cruise. There was a woman at our table who only brought a carry on, with clean undergarments, she wore one shirt 3 times and one shirt 4. And had one pair of jeans. On formal night she wore a "members only" type jacket. She really looked out of place, but she said she didn't care what anyone said, she was not going to dress up for anything.

Yeah..umm...second night dinner....

I can't say what happened to us because I'm afraid it may be a DISer here.
But I highly doubt it as everyone here is just wonderful and FRIENDLY.
But the staff was fabulous in fixing it for us and we had wonderful - overly
friendly service from everyone - to the HEAD HEAD server.

We even got a visit to our room by our assistant server who wanted to be sure we had a great experience
and brought us apologies and goodies. :lovestruc
