Wonder in Alaska!!! May 27, 2013

What are the prices for those? You can PM me if you want.

Hi! I PM'd you, but for anyone else, the price is $140, plus taxes, salmon stamp and license. 5 hours, picking us up near the ship, will fish opposite where the majority of the fishing excursions go, many many more details if you're interested.

Hi everyone! DH and I are flying into Seattle on Saturday and taking Amtrak Cascades to Vancouver on Monday morning. My question is this: Will we need to have some Canadian funds for the taxi that we are taking from the train station to the port? Or do they accept US money?

I tried to google your question, but it would seem the internet does not have a definitive answer as far as I could find. These are the two threads I found on the subject:

http://www.cruisemates.com/forum/alaska/245818-vancouver-do-they-take-american-dollars.html

http://boards.cruisecritic.com/archive/index.php/t-328019.html

Based on googlemaps it does look like you might be able to take the Expo line to Waterfront Station though. The skytrain ticket machines do accept credit cards.

I used Canadian Dollars for the taxi. I can't remember if they took credit cards or US$ or not.

Good day folks....I know I have been absent and missing all the fun of pre-cruise planning but life took an unexpected turn with my Mother being hospitalized....Nothing major, all is well now, it is just a new chapter which we will all face if we are lucky enough to have our Mothers when they are in their 90s. But as you can imagine, this has taken a considerable amount of time and energy and I have been off the boards for a while.

But I AM BACK and bearing your indulgence when I get caught up and/or ask you to please send me current information....I'll check out page one and go from there.

I even filled out the boarding form today. Apparently I had not checked the box that said I was not pregnant and hence was not complete. :lmao: Oh, NO, I am not.:scared1:

Hope things are doing better for your mom now.

Thanks Robin!

She was a treasure to our family for 14.5 years. We'll never have another like her. ;) Even after 2 weeks, it's hard to let her go.

Did anyone else get the email about planning that specifically says we are having pirate night?

Pixar or Pirate? What do you think? I can't say it's going to change what I pack too much, but it would be nice to know.:confused3

Thank you, chiburple. I had the same luck finding an taxi currency requirement answer online :confused3 but I've decided to err on the side of caution and convert some funds prior to the trip. Since this taxi ride and food at the airport after the cruise are the extent of our Canadian shopping, I'm thinking $100 total should cover it. Thanks for your help!

Welcome back. Pretty much everything I can think of that you would need to know is now in the OP (Thanks Corinna and Brumbie13!). The only thing is that Champaign girls currently stands in question because we don't have the required 25 drinking guests. I'm making a small attempt towards an alternative, but so far nothing has come of it.

Yes! DCL did confirm Pixar when I asked about this, but it still bugs me. Sure, those of us who've called DCL or spent time on the boards know about this change, but what about all the other cruisers? I'm picturing disappointed children who were excited about wearing their pirate costumes as well as unhappy parents who purchased or made and then packed these costumes. Ive written DCL an email about this in hopes they will send out a correction before its too late. Perhaps I'm making too big a deal out of this though.

No problem. I know how frustrating it can be to scour the internet and come up with 100 contradicting answers to the same question. In my case, I was trying to get a feel for how much to tip excursion guides. While this apparently turned out to be a far more emotional topic then I had realized (based on the heated back and forth in some threads), I didnt come out of it much closer to an answer then when I started. :confused3

I agree, I know they said Pixar when talking to a CM, but why are they sending out emails with pirate night info? Too weird, it could totally have said Pixar night for those who don't DIS.

I'm a DVC member and wondered if anything special takes place on Disney cruises for members. Like a meeting similar to the weekly Members thingie at Atlantic Dance maybe? Should I let DCL know I am a member? That they already know I am a member somehow stretches my faith in the Left Hand/Right Hand theory of All That Is Disney.:rotfl2:

Thank you!

they normally have 2 meetings or more.. they give away obc, and it is a very informal low pressure sales pitch. (they normally give you hats, and tote bags just for showing up too.)

if you do not get a dvc magnet on your door, just go to the dvc desk and ask for one. :) they are great about this!! a lot of time Disney magically finds its Dvc members. they normally have a give away every day too... free hats, pins etc.

They do a member celebration, which usually takes place in the morning of the first sea day. You get some stuff just for turning up and there are some prizes as well for trivia or other contests. They then run a number of group presentations for prospective members, but existing members are invited to this, too.

the last FE list should be in everyones email. :)

let me know if there are any changes!!

I found this strange as well.

thanks to those who have been asking about my Mother. She is now settled in nursing care. Very much aware of all that is going on. asked about the Alaska trip! And she is getting wonderful care.

I started my skirt for formal night. Wish me luck in finishing it.....
