Wonder if I've "fried" my stove?

I was attempting to prepare dinner when a pot of water boiled over on my glass top stove. I rushed over to take the pot off the stove top and shut things down but before I could an alarm went off and an "Error" message came across the screen. At the bottom of the screen was a scrolling message about "no communication".

I phoned the Helpline and was told about shutting off the breaker, etc. They suggested allowing the stove to "try" and dry out on its own for a couple of days. I'm to then turn on the stove and see if all is back to normal. You think I've got a prayer??? :sad2:

Hmmmmm.....

I have stuff boil over all the time and never got an error message.:confused3

Did water get into the coils below? Do you have cracks or maybe it is not sealed shut or something?

The top is glass and "appears" solid but water definitely DID get inside. That's just it...manufacturers of ranges, stoves, whatever you want to call them, know liquids will likely boil over at some point in the years you have them. I'm afraid a lot more water spilled over than I had first thought. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ is all I can think about. :sad2:

Wow, I need to be careful then. I have had many occassions of "boiling over".:headache:

Or maybe I can break it and get my gas stove. Hmmmm...;)

I have a gasket around the glass. I've never had a problem.

How weird. I'm very generous with the water when I clean it.

Do you still have the pamphlet on the stove?

Just seems odd--considering the number of boil overs and just regular maintenance to clean it that water can get inside so easily.

Yeah, still have pamphlet and all paper work. Nothing mentions this problem in the pamphlet or online that I can find. Waiting 2 days to see "if" things will be all right is making me feel really anxious. Water, through my negligence, would not be a covered repair and will be really expensive. In fact, another plain basic stove could be bought instead for less money. Am getting this info from the rep I spoke with earlier. And....it's great to know that DH didn't even want this particular range and I talked him into it. Yeah, great.

If the electronics are that accessible by liquids, then I'm curious if there is a defect with the actual stove.

When electricity is involved, there should be a mechanism in place that prevents the stove from becoming water logged.

Have you tried googling to the model number to see if you can come across any complaints?

Hate to say it--but if the stove couldn't handle a boil over, they should have had a warning in the pamphlet...and better yet, they should have manufactured it better.

My glass top is at least 13 years old--and as I've said--I'm probably more "negligent" than I should be and we've never had a problem due to water getting in the top. As far as I know--the gasket is doing it's job of sealing the gap between stove and gas top.

We had something similar happen with our microwave. Google your make/model/year. There are many codes that run diagnostics. Most appliances even have a reset type button/code.

My husband did this and had it back and run in minutes.

Good luck.

Lisa, my stove is garbage!!! It's a Kitchenaid that I paid $1700 for (not really a cheap stove cost wise) and it's been worked on 4 times in a 3 year period...and today's problem will probably make 5.

A part had to be replaced the first month we had it. In fact, the top was removed by a tech twice for repairs. I'm beginning to wonder if somehow the seal wasn't replaced correctly after a repair. It's not likely that another tech will come waltzing in and admit this on a co-worker. But yeah, spills ARE a fact with stoves and this shouldn't have happened. It is under warranty BUT this would be considered "negligence" and would not be covered.

Thank you for this info! :thumbsup2 Will look into this AFTER water overflow has dried up. At this point I'm sure I'd be electrocuted. :scared1:

It's probably not worth it to argue with them....

Though I disagree with their "negligence" claim.

I googled a little and found someone wrote a review about their KitchenAid stove top and said:

"Control panel not well sealed. 1 pot water boiled-over, goodbye panel. Shame on Kitchenaid."

So, it's not just you!

Thanks, BUCKLER. I'm googling too but not finding anything useful yet. I'd LOVE to find there's been a recall before DH gets home. I'm thinking about hiding in the oven when I think of telling him this. :sad2:

Can you post the exact model number?

Absolutely. It's KitchenAid Architect II Series and the model is #KERS807.

Anyone know how to find ERROR CODES for KitchenAid appliances? Google hasn't been my friend.

What was the error code?

It left the screen so fast I didn't catch it. I am assuming it will possibly be displayed again when the stove dries and can be turned back on.

Buckler, thank you so much. I believe you've worked as hard as I have searching for info. If you were local, I'd take you to lunch. THANK YOU FOR BEING SO KIND!!! :flower3:

You would HOPE a stove could handle a boil over. Jeesh, those things happen all the time.
