Wonder getting REPO'ed to Vancouver!: May 20th, 2013 Official Thread!

Wow I did not know that they offer full service during dinner. Has anyone try it? What is the advantage of eating there vs the main dinning room?

We only tried it once, we were on the Panama crossing so 14 days on the ship. We got a little tired of the main dining rooms so we thought we would try it. I wasn't fussy about the menu choices, but that may of been just me :confused3 It wa a couple of years ago and my memory tells me we said we probably wouldn't do it again. Everyone has different tastes so if there is a dining room on your regular rotation that you want to skip then give it a try.

Thanks for the BBB info.

We have never missed the dining room (except for Palo).
Maybe we will give this a try. I like the idea of sitting outside looking at the ocean at sunset.

Now i want to know more!! Do they follow the same menu as the main dining room? Same menu every night? Or do they have their own theme every night?

No theme, just regular dining and not the same menu as the main dining rooms. Not sure if it changes every night, very casual and when we dined there the service wasn't all that great. We were told that they use it as a training venue for the new servers on board. (don't know if that was just on that cruise or all cruises).

This is from the info I quoted from DCL's website:

Boasting a selection of tantalizing American fare during a delightful 4-course meal, Beach Blanket Buffet offers a selection of fine food for everyone in your family. Although subject to change, dinnertime menu items include signature dishes from the Main Dining restaurants and casual dining specials.

I'm so excited! It's our first ever cruise and we were able to get one of the VGT rooms :) So just curious any other DISers on the same voyage?

We have only eaten at Beach Blanket Buffet once during our Hawaii cruise. We went there on Pirate Night and they had various menu items from that menu, but not the full compliment. They also had some extra things. I had a Caesar Salad for my appetizer and DH had a Porterhouse Steak for his entree. Service was very hit and miss and I would not have dinner there again. We had to ask for something to drink, butter, etc. I asked for a plain Caesar Salad and got chicken on it.

Well I know that our Thanksgiving dinner, 17 months ago, which was not the first night nor the last night, it was a serve yourself buffet. There were no servers assisting us, and we got up to get additional turkey and fixins.

We have planned a M&G on embarkation day for anyone that has interest.

It is at 3pm in the Promenade lounge.

Looking forward to meeting up with people.

thanks Elaine. I was wondering about the meet and greet. (i'm not on facebook so missed the info if it was announced there). Looking forward to meeting fellow DISers....:)

Does anyone know what the different dining rotations are? I don't think I've seen that posted? Thanks!

Hi! Looks like we'll be joining this cruise last minute! I'm working with our DU TA now to move a booking we had for 2014 to a 9c on this one (with hopes to upgrade to verandah at port!). Looks like I have 40+ pages to catch up on :)

Woo-hoo! :cheer2:
Just submitted the payment to our TA! We did the CA Coastal one last year that was out of and returned to LA (I think it was LA- SF - SD - Enenada - LA) and I'm so glad this one has an extra sea day. We are from LA and have been so sad that they took the Wonder out of LA! It was such a luxury to be able to drive to the port and drive home. Now we need to figure out if we should fly home from Vancouver or Seattle. Seattle would be cheaper but I read somewhere that it's a 3.5hr shuttle/bus ride from Vancouver to Seattle - that seems like a really long time with a 2 year old just to get on a flight after that!

Now back to catching up on this thread...

My husband, son (5), daughter(3) and I will be on the Pacific Coast cruise in May. This will be our second cruise with Disney. I noticed that a couple of you are from California. I have questions regarding car seats in California. I had read in the PassPorter's cruise guide that car seats are required even on buses and shuttles in California. If that is correct, does that include taxi's as well? I have one little one that is still in the 5 pt harness car seat and it is a beast to lug around. It will be bad enough to fly with it and store it in our cabin but what about when we are in SanFransisco? If anyone can give me advice on California laws that would be great.

I'm only on page 20-something catching up so not sure if your question was answered but you need a car seat and technically also a booster for older kids in taxis and shuttles w/ seat belts. Not needed in vehicles without seat belts like a bus. We can drive to the port but would then need to pay the parking fees for a week and have to get a shuttle back from LAX anyway so we're considering hiring a car service to drop us off/pick us up since you can get a car seat included w/ those. I don't mind taking the seat but it would take up so much valuable space in the room for a week and not needed besides getting to/from the port.

Welcome on board.

Did anyone do their flights and transfers through Disney? We've got the cruise booked but now need to figure out how to get to the terminal and how to get back home :)
We're from L.A. so in the past we've been spoiled and just driven to/from the port. But this time we need to figure out a one way flight from Vancouver and then maybe a shuttle home (in which case we'd need to haul the car seat along for the trip).

Anyone else on this thread traveling with a toddler? DD will be almost 2.5.
