I am 45 and have just this year begun to do that thing where you pull skin a bit tighter on your face in the mirror and think "hmmm"!

When I go to the drugstore and see all of the skincare choices I get so confused! Do any of you use products that you have found are useful in maintaining your skin's tone? I am interested to hear your routine. I need to get on the ball so I don't find myself wanting to go on Extreme Makeover!

:p:earseek:

I'm just a few years behind you so I know about caring for your skin. I've had more problems in the last five years between dry/flaky skin and adult acne than I even did as a teenager. I recently started using something that has made a big improvement to the point that I no longer need to use my acne medication. It's called Aveeno even tone moisture cream SPF15, a daily facial moisturizer. It claims to help visibly even out skin tone and soften/smooth skin texture. Like I said since I've been using it I've noticed a difference. Even with the dry cold weather I no longer have dry patches and my skin is very soft.

I feel like I doing a commercial for Aveeno. Hey maybe I should ask for commission;) .

I use a bunch of products from different lines.

Cleansing - I like the products from La Therapie. I use the cleansing milk and toner for sensitive skin. You can buy the items on major cruise lines or through their website .

Moisturizer - Mostly, it's good old Olay Complete.

Extras - I use Estee Lauder's Fruition Extra and Advanced Night Repair

In addition to good genes and products, eat a healthy diet, exercise and drink lots of water.

Hi,
I have tried several different lines. I have very fair, sensitive skin.
I am 44 and have family history of skin cancer and SEVERE wrinkles... ah lucky me! LOL

anyway I have settled on Lancome. I will also use Loreal as they are made by the exact same company and run very similar.. sometimes exactly the same ingredients. I use Lancome skin care and makeup. It has worked well for me thus far.. but in my opinion it is expensive.. very expensive. I have found an outlet store that carries many of the items I use at 50% off. YAY!

I have a friend who swears by HSN's Serious Skin care, the vitamin C and A lines. She also enjoys the olive oil stuff.
I tried the C line.. it was ok.. too many different products for me and the A line caused me to have severe break out reactions.

Most of the dept stores will give you multiple samples of their various lines. Try it all before you decide.
Have fun!

I feel your pain. I was always told my very oily skin would be a blessing as I aged, that I wouldn't get wrinkles. Well, so far, no real wrinkles, but the skin along my jaw line and under my chin is getting looser by the day - so I've started that "skin pulling" thing too. I doubt I'd ever get a face lift, I don't like the idea of going under the knife unless it's a life or death thing - but I would like to hear about skin firming products that actually WORK. If there are any that really work. ;)

It's expensive, but I love my La Mer creme.

I'm a few years older than you. I've been using Connie Steven's "Forever Spring" for years. People say I don't look my age and the biggest complement of all was from my Mother (who NEVER has a positive thing to say about me.) She asked me what I use because my skin looks so good. I think all skin care products are hit or miss. You really need to try a few before you can find one you really like. JMHO.

I got samples of Oil of Olay Total Effects and Regenivist and I really love them!! :p I'm turning 40 this year:faint: and I don't think I look half bad! (now come Aug. 16th, you might be hearing a completely different tune!! :crazy2: )

I'm also in my early 40's with EXTREMELY sensitive skin! I've a very good friend who is a skin doctor & he's had me using Kinerase cream for my face. It's a wonderful moisturizer & only takes a very tiny amount. There are two different versions - one is the cream & one is lotion. Cream is more for moisturizing & for those with oily skin. The lotion is for those with very dry skin. I get it on the internet. Do a google search & see who's got the best deal on it at the time. Kinerase is very good for fine lines, wrinkles & skin discolorations (Rosea).

I also like to use DCL Light Textured Moisturizer which is also called Dermatologic Cosmetic Laboratories. I use the DCL more freely over my face & neck because it's less expensive than the Kinerase. The DCL line has a lot of different products for different needs. I also like to use their non-drying cleansing lotion (it's for sensitive skin).

All of the above is what my Dermatologist has me using. I get many compliments on my skin, most people who know me & my sister have commented than I look younger than her (she's 3 yrs younger) :teeth: I've even got many of my friends using the products & all are very happy with them. Do a google search for them & read about them & see what YOU think! I HIGHLY recommend all of them!

Wow- thanks for the great advice everybody. Many of these products are ones I have never heard of before-but I am ready to do some trying out. Thanks always quiet for the free sample link!;)

I have a few different kinds of moisturizer I use on my skin. I'm trying to do as much prevention as I can, and also have very fair, very sensative skin. I've used the free samples of Clinique's daily moisture forever and love it. I use their face makeup, which I buy when they have a gift and always have some on hand. I also use Neutrogena SPF 15 daily moisture, mostly if I know I'll be outside, which is not every day. Recently I went to a friend's Mary Kay party, and tried their Day and Night formula, and while I like the day stuff, I prefer the Neutrogena, which is about 1/2 the price. However, I love the night stuff and have been using that daily for about 2 months. People guessing my age are usually under by about 8 years, so whatever I'm doing must be working? Plus I'm blessed to come from beautiful women genes!

That's what I ordered!!! Tell me more about it. Does it really do what it promises?

I can't say if it works for everyone, but it [La Mer] works for me. I have extremely sensitive skin, have used it for about several years and it makes my skin glow and has really evened out my complexion. I'm 47 and everyone always guesses my age to be 35. My 23 year old daughter always gets annoyed when folks ask if we are sisters. "InStyle" Magazine has voted it the number 1 face moisturizer and "Allure" named it one of the 12 Top Beauty Secrets so I guess it does work for others.

I do agree with the one poster that everyone's skin is different and what works for one person may not work for another.

I have read conflicting reviews about it, that's why I asked. I agree that what may work for one person, may not for another. If it doesn't work for me, I'll give it to my mom. The cream will be here tomorrow, so I'll see what it does for me.:hyper:

I use Cetaphil and Paula Begoun's stuff
Cleansers, moisturizers and BHA'S My skin is sensitive too and these work wonders.

The best part is that they aren't expensive.
