women in your 30s or older - clothing question

Just stop. Everyone knows you're trying to relive your youth and look hot in that teal v-neck. ;)

:rotfl2:

Trust me when I say that I have no desire to relive my youth. I was teased my entire childhood for being a bean pole and flat chested. Never in a million years would I think grown adults would be criticizing me in my 30s for buying clothes that fit me properly. I just can't win. I give up.

Here's another shirt I got from a junior's department. I was 32 in this photo. Nothing about this looks like a teenager to me. :confused3

I love that top!! Absolutely not teenage like at all. It suits you really well.

For the record I love Ann Taylor and The Loft. i don't have them here so every time I'm in the US near one the old credit card takes a big hit! Spent a fortune there last week in Orlando!

20 years from now when people are still asking to see your ID to buy booze, you'll feel pretty good about it........

Beanpole!!!

For those that are in the 35-50 range, where *do* you shop?

Because I LOVE Coldwater Creek and have a lot of clothes from there, but it seems it is known in this thread as an old woman store. :guilty: I think they have classic, nice-looking modest clothes. :confused3

I'm not going to shop at the same places my kids (17 and 12) shop, so where do the rest of you shop?

I'm 46. I've found a couple of pieces at Coldwater Creek, but a lot of it seems too old to me. I like Macys, Talbots, and sometimes JC Penney. I find quite a few things at TJMaxx and Marshalls, too.

I wouldn't wear Abercrombie because of their practices, but they don't carry my size, anyway. I think American Eagle is ok, but I wouldn't wear anything with a big logo - that just seems too young.

I would guess that the dis is the only place you are being criticized for your choice in clothing. I wouldn't worry too much about it.

This picture shows my body type. The shirt I have on came from the junior's department. Nothing about that shirt screams teenager. It's just a blue shirt that fits me perfectly. :confused3

Yeah, but the rest of the outfit looks a tad young for you.

;)

I think that there is a big difference between woman who are dressing like their teen and those who shop at the "teen" section because of fit. I can't shop at the teen store since the kids left me a belly. Those low cut jeans slide right under that potbelly and boy is that attractive. I agree with some prior posters, it is hard to dress/shop sometimes. I am 42 and needed a nice dress for an event. I did not need beaded mother of the bride or cut up to there and tight. It was interesting. Thank you Dillard's!!!

This is my first time posting on this thread, and I honestly don't care where anyone buys their clothing. Doesn't matter one iota to me.

However, since you asked... yes, in my opinion, the shirt is this picture definitely looks like it was purchased in the junior department. I would expect to see it on a teenager. The blue t-shirt is your other picture just looks like a blue t-shirt though.

I feel the same way, but I don't think, Smitch, that it looks bad on you. I just associate really trendy type clothing with teens.

As a 46-year-old man, I disagree. There is nothing ridiculous about the way Scoutie (for example) is dressed. And I find women in their 40's who dress like that about 1,000X more interesting than ones who dress like little old ladies.

Now, obviously there are some outfits that only look good on kids. But, those stores sell a LOT of clothing that a confident 40-something can totally pull off :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2

I'll one up you, I'm 32 and I have some capris from Justice! I'm 4'3", and guess what? They FIT! Granted I don't actually shop at Justice...they came from Goodwill, but the logo is still there for anyone willing to become inappropriately close to me in order to find it. I'm sure no one can tell where they are from, they just look like plain old capris. All of my jeans are kids sizes (not Justice) because they fit. And for Heaven's sake, they just look like jeans.

I also wear a size 1-2 in kids shoes. That can be a challenge, but not impossible. You learn to work with it.

I say buy whatever works for you and don't let others make you feel bad about it based on some arbitrary cutoff point.

It's laughable. I mean brands like Lucky, Free People (who's sweaters I love,) Miss Me, BCBG, Guess…all are stocked in the Juniors department.

Really? Those brands are found in the women's department store at the Macy stores around here. Not in the Juniors. Perhaps online but not in the stores.

Since an opinion was asked I will say YES you do age out of those stores. Now I am not going to banter about a solid t shirt that can be found in any department and yes if those jeans fit you to a T then sure they are jeans.

However the logo stuff? YES there is an age where you begin to look like you are hanging on. This of course is my opinion as someone in their 30's who shopped at those stores years ago. The higher end "junior" type stores (apparantly from PP Lucky, BCBG, RL) is where I started to head. Coldwater Creek etc. I am not there yet, NMS. Then again everyone has their own style and it is up to you but if bugs your kid I would think twice.

I am 45. I have no desire to dress in the same clothes the high school kids are wearing. I do wear some stuff from Old Navy but I am picky. I think the 30-50 age range is a tough one when it comes to clothing. It is either too young and trendy, or too matronly. I shop at Kohls and Target, and get a piece here and there from Talbots, LL Bean, Eddie Bauer, Loft, and that's about it v

I like this post..:thumbsup2 You put your point across without insulting someone who has a different opinion than your own... You did not label anyone.. Very classy and mature.

Y'all seriously couldn't tell that she was dressed up for an event or Halloween. I mean the wig didn't at least give it away?

Yep. They are with Jessica Simpson & American Rag. On the juniors floor. At Nordstrom they are on the same floor as the Brass Plum stuff.

At the smaller Macy's they are on the same floor as womens but those brands are with more of the 'younger' brands than stuff like Calvin Kline or DKNY.

I am 46 years old and I really don't care what people think of what I wear!:snooty: When AERO has their tshirts on sale for $2.99 and $3.99 I'm buying! That's cheaper than Walmart!! :thumbsup2 I don't care if they have a Big logo or not. I know I'm not trying to be 13, that's what counts right?! Is anyone really going to come up to me and tell me I'm trying to look young because of a tshirt or jeans I'm wearing? Be real folks. Wear what makes you comfortable and happy! :flower3:

That statement was about the red shirt.

My other statement about the Halloween thing had a winky smiley - I was just kidding.

I'm 24 (so a little bit younger than the intended age here), turning 25 in about 2 months. I do shop at American Eagle. Their jeans fit me really well (I'm 5'4" and wear a size 8, have a non-existent butt and muscular calves/thighs, and VERY short legs - all my height is in my torso; and their jeans even used to fit me well when I was a size 14/16) and I generally like some of their tops and sweaters, too. I don't usually buy things that have American Eagle written across the chest, but a tiny logo on the waistband of a sweater? Totally ok. I am currently wearing a sweater (I really love their sweaters these days) and jeans from American Eagle. (The sweater is blue, black and gold, no logo anywhere, and the jeans are solid black...)

I shop just about everywhere, though. I have some workout clothes from Aeropostale, Gap and Old Navy and a lot of my dressier clothes come from Macy's, Lord and Taylor, Loft, Nordstrom, and New York & Co. and even Marshall's and TJ Maxx. I don't dress up much for work (I work in a casual newsroom, so I am usually wearing jeans and a nice top with boots or flats, in the summer I will wear dresses) and so what I wear to work I can wear on the weekends as well.

Hadn't been to Aeropostale in a while, so I went to their webpage and saw a bunch of cute stuff! I don't see how most of it is inappropriate for women of any age.

For instance:

http://www.aeropostale.com/product/...34619.3534623.3541050.3536152.4330109.4326560

Do those of you who think that a 35 - 55 year old woman shouldn't shop at Aeropostale think these things are inappropriate or too young?
