Women and "The Look"

My husband knows The Look, but my sons just don't quite grasp it.
I'm sure that DH is somehow to blame for this. As a man, it is his responsibility to pass on to any male children the meaning of The Look , not to just interpret it as, "Boys! Your mother has had enough!"
They should immediately cease and desist whatever activity may have possibly taken place within recent memory of the look, spontaneously.
Maybe I should increase the intensity of The Look. Hmmm...

My kids and my dh know my Look. What is funny is that my friends know the look as well. I have one friend who is male and he comments on it when he knows that his kidding is going to get the Look at a meeting. My ds's friend who lives here is also getting to know the Look. What is really funny though is my dgrdd who is 5 already has a baby Look that works. Her oldest ds has no idea how to do it but she knows the Look when her sister gives it.

My mom was a teacher, so we called that the "dirty teacher look"!

Ever so often I can give "the look" to one of my students, but I'm no pro. However I inherited "the footstep" from my mom. It drives teens out of bed to catch the bus before it's too late, and alerts husbands to the fact that I'm doing something (usually chores) that he was asked to do. It's not really a stomp, just a firm footstep. Gotta love it!

Ah, yes, usually accompanied by "the Huffy Sigh". (you women know what I mean, don'tcha?)

Actually after the 1st time it's used you never have to give " the sigh" again. At least mom and I don't.

I've been told I have that "look" as well.

ahhh yes, that would be the sharp intake through the nose, (possibly preceded by a sharp "tsk" ) followed by a exasperated exhaling through the mouth. Very possibly followed by a loud but firm controlled closing of a door or cupboard or drawer, and the footsteps. DD-17 must have learned from the master....that would be me ;)

I teach 7th grade, so I am a master of "The Look".

this look?? works well, i've found... :D

This is slightly off topic, but I see a similarity between Ms Rice and Omarosa. I hope the two of them never get together as political consultants. Ms Rice had the "look" for sure.

My husband refers to my "Look" as "THE EVIL EYE"! I told my son not to dare attempt it because I am the queen bee of the evil eye.:Pinkbounc

My DH has accussed me of having the look over the years.
I just didn't get it until he caught it on tape one year.

Yikes - when I saw it, I scared me;)

"The Look" I believe, is passed down from generations. I know I learned my look from my mother (I was on the receiving end quite a few times :p -not funny at the time though). I have seen my Grandmother still give it...So I think it is passed on.::yes:: I have 2 DD's, I will pass down "the look" to them as well. hehehe

apparently, i am really good at the look. in one of my extracurricular activities at school, i have earned the nickname "mommy" :p :o :teeth: because of the look i give people when they are being ridiculous.

We have a serious problem in our house lately.

I am a Mistress of the Look.

My children know it.

My husband knows it.

Our employees even know it.

Everyone finds my Look quite effective.

I use it selectively, it is reserved only for necessary occasions.

But, I've recently developed a slight problem with my eyesight & when I squint to try to see better, it is being confused for the Look.

People are ducking and running everywhere. They're not taking any chances!

My "look" is much better than Condi's.......mine is accompanied by the one raised eyebrow! I have always said that any mom worth her salt can stop her children in their tracks with one raised eyebrow:D

I don't have any scientific proof, but I now believe "The Look" is genetic and not learned. Perhaps I should pose that as a question on the DB. "The Look" - Genetics or Environment?:teeth:
