I just checked the wait times on the Disney Experience app and it showed Maelstrom at 65 minutes! Is it really that long? I have only gone during off peak times, but we have always walked on. I was thinking of not using a fastpass for that ride, as it seemed like a waste, but now I'm rethinking. Is it really that popular now?

Easywdw has it at 55 minutes. It's a pretty popular ride in a park with limited family rides, so I believe it. It does seem to have increased in popularity as of late, though, which just furthers my opinion that they don't need to change it. No one asked me, though.

Or on the other hand, it could be very popular right now as people ride it as is for the last time. Rumor is it will soon have a Frozen overlay.

It's a mixed bag for us. We don't really ever go at high crowd times and we've seen it with a long line, and with no line. And this was before Fastpass+ as well.

I wonder what the chances are of doing 3 fastpasses by noon and then trying to get maelstrom as the 4th.... hmmmm

That's what I think is happening. People are trying to get one last "hurrah" in, just in case. (Especially with those Maelstrom T-shirts).

Aww... I hadn't heard these Frozen rumors. Wish they'd leave it alone. :(

Truth be told, I looked up how much it would cost for my family to fly in on a Friday night, ride it on Saturday, and leave on Sunday, just in case.

I don't want them touching my "Tricky Trolls". I loved it when I was a kid and that's what I called it. My daughter calls it the same thing, now. And we've named many of the trolls on the ride (Brutus is the one with one eye, Alpha, Beta, and Gamma s the three-headed troll that casts the spell that sends us backwards, and Clyde is the big troll near Alpha, Beta, and Gamma). We love Frozen, but would prefer Malestrom stay as-is.

Isn't that a 'feature' of FP+? Attractions that used to be short wait get booked up with FP+ and now have much longer standby lines? :confused3

This makes sense and doesn't surprise me. When are they talking about putting a frozen makeover towards it?

I am right there with you! I LOVE the trolls and hope they stay! That is one of my favorite parts of WDW rides: "disappear, disappear, you'll disappear!". Hopefully they will just wipe out the bottom area with the oil rig and throw Frozen in there. pixiedust:

I told my husband that I would suggest they not touch the ride and just play Frozen on a continuous loop in the theater, rather than the Norway movie few seem to watch. :lmao:

JMHO,I don't think there is any doubt that "Frozstrom" is coming.

I could be wrong, butI think the Norway Cast knows it and has known for quite a while also.

there was a decent wait when we were there at the end of July. We did fastpass it...I think there was a 40 minute wait. I can't speak to how long the wait actually was as we didn't wait. I've seen it at various times of the year with a 30-40 minute wait and I've seen it pretty much walk on.

I'm not so sure everyone's riding it for the last time as I don't think people who don't frequent the disboards or follow things related to disney closely would know about the rumors. Maybe thats a bigger group then I think ?
