WL Woods View vs. Courtyard

We have a woods view room booked for 1st week of Feb. I just called about the promos. If we switch to a courtyard room we would save $600. I told CM I didn't want to switch. Right now, I have requested North side of Lodge because I'm worried about the construction noise. We will be returning to our room a couple of afternoons for resting/napping. Also, I'm not sure the $600 is worth waiting on hold another hour :worried: What would you do?

Taken from tourinplans.com:

Parts of Wilderness Lodge & Villas will be a construction zone from late 2015 through 2016, as Disney adds new time-share units to the shores of Bay Lake and the Wilderness Lodge building. Water-view (northeast-facing) rooms at the villas and northwest-facing woods-view rooms at the lodge may be subject to construction noise and views. We hear that some upper-floor hotel rooms in the lodge will also be converted to time-share lodging. If so, expect construction to affect more rooms on the northwest side of the lodge. Your best bet to avoid the mess is to request a courtyard view in the main building or a southwest-facing view in the villas, or choose another hotel.

So, they seem to think having a courtyard view would be better. We have a woods view and are a little worried...

I'm so confused! This is from the Wilderness DVC Expansion thread:

~Initially, it seems that the least impacted resort areas will be the North Wing rooms in WL and the VWL villas that face toward the South Wing of WL and toward the bus stop/parking lot area. Some rooms have been removed from the booking inventory. While we don't know specifically which rooms these are, they could be some villas that face the VWL pool area and some South Wing WL rooms that also face this area.

Am I reading that right? Touringplans and the thread are posting opposite views on what will be most impacted? Is anyone staying there now that can give a little more insight?

I'm thoroughly confused myself. I originally did woods (with the disney visa offer a couple days ago) and then got worried that we should have done courtyard....

How fun! It's been a VERY long time since I've been to Disney, I can't begin to tell you how excited I am about this trip. I feel I may be overly worried about, well, everything.

So, I've been on the website several times today. Sometimes its says only Courtyard is available for the package (like when I 1st called), but a couple times it said Woods View. I just called again and got the discount for a woods view room. So that's it. I will now try to quit obsessing over construction.... buuut, would love to hear if you read anymore updates.:D

Sigh.... sadly, everyone is GUESSING about all this :(. We know the construction time frame, but we DON'T exactly know what areas are getting hit in what order :(. WDW isn't talking much about this.

Based on what's been going on in terms of communications for folks headed to the VWL, it APPEARS that the Quiet Pool area is first on the agenda - which was a major surprise to me. I THOUGHT they would start by putting in the roads they need for construction of the cabins.

In any case - 1st week of February? Again, all this is yet another guess.... but I'm betting they won't be done with the Quiet Pool area. They MAY be close - in which case, the wooded areas facing the lake could see activity.

MickeyAndrews, it's just an educated guess.... but in your time frame? A Courtyard View actually sounds pretty good. As long as it's not a view to the "Courtyard" facing the Quiet pool. Hoping others will chime in with exact definition of "Courtyard View" - I THINK it's "main pool view". I could be wrong.

I would take the $600 discount and the courtyard view room, unless it is a courtyard with bunk bed, then I wouldn't. We originally booked a woods view room for the same reason as you. We are assuming that construction on the cabins won't start by January.

When I spoke to a cm about being furthest from the construction he told me north view woods view. We will be there right as construction will begin at the end of October so I don't know if that will change.

Thank you all for your input. I know we will just have to wait and see how it is when we get there. I did request a north view room. I hope all goes well for everyone else staying there too!

You'd be SAVING $600 to switch. Absolutely without a doubt yes. We have stayed in both and enjoyed the Courtyard room much more. While, we chose the Woods view room the second time around to save $$, we weren't as happy. The room is the same and the view of the trees was okay, however we were completely unable to sit on the balcony at night due to the swarms of bugs everywhere. The kids were scared to see all the bugs crawling on our balcony window. Definitely switch Courtyard.

Definitely switch and save money. The courtyard view is not always what you expect. You can get a marvelous view of the villas instead of the actual courtyard. It really stinks to pay a premium price to view the pool and lake and get stuck with the courtyard view of some trees and the villas.
