We are strongly considering WL for our next visit to WDW.
But, I was just reading in the 2002 Birnbaum's that when traveling via bus, in order to get to all WDW points except BB,we will have to go to the TTC and then change to either a monorail or another bus????

Why doesn't WL have direct buses to the theme parks?Or has this changed since the 2002 guide book?

That's a new one on me. Last I heard they had direct buses to all the parks...

Let me check something...

Here's what I was looking for:

The Wilderness Lodge shares a bus with the Polynesian Resort and the Grand Floridian, not Fort Wilderness. The buses were very prompt and came often. They have separate buses for Epcot, MGM, Animal Kingdom/Blizzard Beach and after 4 a bus that goes to Downtown Disney/Typhoon Lagoon. They all are a pretty quick ride except for the Downtown Disney one, which makes stops at each Downtown Disney area and the resorts. Wilderness Lodge is the first stop on the way back from any attraction, but also the first on the way there.

This is from Deb's site www.wdwig.com

Thats good news JDY !
Thankyou so much for taking the time to look that up for me.I really appreciate it.
I need a huggie icon here -> (((hugs)))

Wilderness Lodge has the following direct transportation options:

Bus to Fort Wilderness
Bus to Transportation & Ticket Center (Transfer to MK, Epcot, or Resort Monorail)
Bus to Epcot
Bus to Blizzard Beach & Disney's Animal Kingdom
Bus to Disney-MGM Studios
Bus to Downtown Disney & Typhoon Lagoon (Runs all day)
Boat to Contemporary
Boat to Fort Wilderness
Boat to Magic Kingdom

When we stayed at WL in May, we shared a bus with Fort Wilderness to nearly every destination. If I remember correctly, I think AK was the only one that we shared with the Polynesian and GF.

The AK bus will share with GF all day.
The Epcot and DTD bus will share with the FW Outpost all day.
The Studios bus will share with GF from 8am-11am. All other times, it will share with FW Outpost.

Since it appears that WL shares most busses with FW, would this resort be the most convenient resort if my Mother will be staying at FW? Or, would it be just as convenient to stay at the CR and have Mom take a boat over and ride the monorail to MK and Epcot? I am trying to decide which resort would be the best considering I have three young children and will need my Mom's help. I was leaning towards the CR because of the Monorail but now I'm reconsidering. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Wendy, you might want to look at the cabins at FW so that you would all be at the same resort.

'Convenient' is a relative term when it comes to how close the resorts are to each other.

WL would probably be the closest hotel to FW, but your still looking at coordination issues for transportation.

I considered the FW cabins only briefly. I didn't like the idea of being there alone with the kids. I would feel much better in a hotel where amenities were close by (room service, etc.). So, I can't decide which would be the most convenient and least stressful - CR or WL. Transportation is my main concern.

Wendy, I have stayed at the WL several times, but never at FW. Besides the buses between WL and FW you have a boat that goes between the two resorts. You have two options boat or bus. The WL and FW are the only two resorts served from the TTC.

Good luck.
