WL to Poly ... Thought I could go by boat

OK, so, well after thinking I knew it all my research tells me I can't get to the Poly from WL.

For some reason, I thought I could go by boat from WL to FW, Poly, CR, GF and of course, MK.

My thinking was to pop over to the Poly for dinner at Kona but I don't think it's quite as easy as I thought.

How are the Christmas decorations at the Poly?

Take boat to MK then boat (or monorail) to Poly (or GF).

Haven't seen the decorations there yet.

Or take the boat to the Contemporary, then the monorail to the Polynesian.
Or take the bus from WL to GF (check with the driver to make sure that bus shares a route with GF) then walk to the Polynesian.

1) Yes.
2) It is a short walk from the FW-MK boat dock to MK-Poly boat dock at MK.

But the walk from the dock at Cont to the monorail is quite long.

From the WL to the Poly is a 1 minute cab ride, maybe plus 30 seconds if the light at World Drive is red. It's the shortest cab ride in all of WDW, and one of the least convenient trips via Disney transportation.

You literally drive out of the WL entrance, go about two long blocks and turn into the Polynesian entrance. If they were willing to put in a walkway, it would be a 7 minute walk.

My recommendation: spend the $5 and save yourself 40 minutes. Maybe longer if the bus/boat/monorail waits don't go your way.

It all depends on much time you want to spend getting there. I would take the boat to the MK and then jump on the boat to the GF/Polynesian. I would actually get off at the GF, check out those holiday decorations (pretty incredible) and then take the boat over to the Polynesian. The boat runs from the MK to the GF to the Polynesian and back to MK.
As far as the holiday decor at the Polynesian? I find it to be somewhat underwhelming. When I first started heading to WDW in Decd (about 10 years ago), the Polynesian had decent decorations. Now? Not so much. I wouldn't make a special trip there just for the holiday stuff. But if you are heading to the GF then make an addtl stop at the Polynesian.

You could also boat to the CR and take the monorail to the Polynesian and then to the GF. That way, you won't be nearly as disappointed when you see the stuff at the Polynesian!!! You get the really good stuff last!
