WL Standard View - Worth an upgrade?

I'm looking ahead to book my next Disney trip for next year, and was thinking of trying out the WL. My budget will only allow a standard view at this point in time, and I was wondering if a standard view at the WL is really worth the extra money over a regular view at a moderate.

I usually stay at POFQ, and really love it there but I have been intrigued by everyone on the Disboards who sing the praises of the WL. I just didn't know if I was looking at a parking lot if I would love it as much.

Anyone any thoughts on if bumping up is really worth it?

You know view isn't really a big deal to me. A nice view is great and all but I don't find I spend a lot of time in my hotel room staring out the window. Its about the overall experience. I haven't stayed at WL yet but I wouldn't sweat the view. The only reason we don't have a standard view was they don't have standard view with bunkbeds and we really wanted those.

I'm with you on this one.....as I'm considering this for our trip next October. I was thinking about upgrading to a room with a woods view for a little bit more, if we do in fact choose WL. I get very agitated (my wife can attest), when they give us a room with a view of the parking lot. For the cost of the deluxe resorts, those types of views should only limited to a minimum.

I wouldn't worry about the view. We stayed for the first time this year Aug/Sept. I booked a standard and got upgraded to bunk-bed inner courtyard view. Many people have gotten upgrades. If you can book a standard, book it. There are not too many to go around. If the hotel is not booked solid, I would the odds are in your favor for an upgrade. We didn't choose the hotel for the view as much as for the size of the beds. While I would not request a view, I can't see staying here without bunk beds and am very happy we got upgraded to a room with bunk beds because we were there for 10 days with two DS's 12 & 6 !!:scared: .

We fell in love with WL not because of the view out the window, but the view out the door into the lobby! On our next trip, we will be requesting probably one of the least asked for rooms in WL - a standard or woods view room overlooking the lobby.

We don't mind the noise from WCC - just white noise to us. We don't care for the service trucks in the parking lot in the morning - white noise again and we get up early when on vacation. We don't sit by the window and stare out at the trees or pool.

But we do enjoy grabbing a cup of hot tea, opening the door, sitting in one of the large comfy chairs in the hallway overlooking the lobby, and enjoying the ambiance, while the kids rest in the room just several feet behind us.

Can't do that in a room that opens up to a normal WL hallway! :)

I stayed at WL before, and am considering it again for my next trip. On my prior trip, I paid for standard view, and technically I got an upgrade to a woods view, but ughhhh! The room I got was ground floor next to a fence surrounding the loading dock. Just a terrible room, and I didn't feel too relaxed using my patio with trucks a few feet away! For my upcoming trip, I can see I will have to pay for courtyard view, as there is no way I will risk getting that awful woods view room again!

But that being said, I would still take WL over a moderate anyday! The convience of being closer to MK, plus the beautiful grounds of the Wilderness Lodge and Fort Wilderness and the Lake right there, makes it worthwhile to me! :)

I think you will love the standard view! We just got back from WL, courtyard view w/bunkbeds. We had a view of the Villas pool and it was nothing spectacular, esp. when they shut the pool down and drained it for refurb. We didn't spend much time in our room because the rest of the resort is just so breathtaking. I was kind of wishing we had one of the rooms that overlooked the lobby.

I tried to book a standard view for next Dec. and there are none available, so we're courtyard view again, for now.

Good luck!! princess:

Hi - Unless you need a bunkbed, I would not upgrade at WL. We were switched this summer from YC to a "courtyard" view at WL, and yes, we had a view - of the Villas pool!

The view was indeed, lovely - but it was in the furthermost corner of the Lodge! If I had paid directly for that, I would have been disappointed. JMHO.

In our 3 trips to WL, we have booked standard view each time, and were comped to courtyard view 2 of the 3 times.

the 3rd time, we were given a room on the 1st floor right next to the otter pool. With a 3 year old and an open balconey to the muddy pond, i went back to the desk and requested a different room higher up. We were given an end room overlooking the boat dock to MK.

If you dont like the room, just ask for a new one. but never NEVER as for a free upgrade. It turns off the cm at the desk and they will put you in a crappy room on purpose.

be cordial, and talkative. if you have gets, get them to talk to the CM behind the desk. We have had great luck with my younger daughter comming over and asking the Cm "can we see the pool from our room". I just turn to the CM and look with puppy dog eyes. it has worked 6 of 7 times at various resorts.

This is what I was hoping for - that the building itself was part of the experience. I love POFQ, but am looking forward to trying somewhere new!

The WL itself is such an upgrade, I'd definately stay there over any mod.

Our family of 4 is staying at WL . Children ages 14 yr. old son, and 12 yr. old daughter. We opted for the room with bunk beds. I read somewhere on this site, after i had made the reservations. That the bunk beds are kind of short. Our son is tall , 5'8. Then i had also seen pictures of the rooms, showing a little girl, laying on the bed. She looked like the took up most of the length of the bed. I am wondering whether , I should just have two queens instead? Can someone who has been there help me, so i have time to change rooms. We are going in Feb. 08 Thank you

We decided not to upgrade, mainly because we don't care much about the view and don't spend a ton of time in the room. And from talking to people over on the WL FAQ thread, it sounds like the stardard rooms are just where we want to be - over the lobby or in the close part of the north wing, on higher floors (4, 5 & 6). Since we care more about being close to everything than we do about view, sticking with standard is a no brainer for us!

We stayed standard view at WL last month. It was the 4th floor and in between two sets of elevators so no long walks to anything. It felt like a woods view until you looked down and saw the service ares. However, it was never noisy and not that big of a deal to us. I wouldn't worry about it. Considering I paid $135 per night to stay at WL, the view was not a big deal to me.

We always book a standard view at WL and, like a pp said, we fell in love with WL not because of the room views but the overall look and feel of the resort. We've been upgraded from a standard view to a courtyard view once but I must say that one of the best views we had was over the service entrance. While that view wasn't that pretty during the day it was wonderful to sit on the balcony at night with a drink and watch the MK fireworks each night.

I just wanted to let you know that I originally booked a std view directly with Disney. Then I checked with AAA and was able to get ugraded to a woods view (I did purchase the package, not just the room). Not only did I get a woods view, but I ended up saving just under $100.00 than what I had with Disney and the std view.

Wow what a great deal! I'd love to find one of those!

I have DS 13 who is very tall, about 5'7. He had no problem in the bunk beds. He'll be fine :thumbsup2
