It's $360 for us to upgrade to CY view from standard view when we go in November. With two young kids in tow, we'll be in the room each afternoon for nap/downtime. DS may want to swim if the weather is nice and he doesn't want to nap. One or two adults will either be napping with DD or relaxing on the balcony while kid(s) nap.

Given this scenario, is it worth it to upgrade our view?

We had a courtyard view for our 10 year anniversary and it was awesome. We were on the 3rd floor overlooking the lobby from our entrance and from the balcony overlooking the pool, Bay Lake, the geyser...it was very quiet and relaxing

Yes I think it is very worth it!

Just look at the Wilderness Lodge room views pictures...

...you can potentially get what may arguably be the worst view on property in the standard view section or get what may be arguably be the best view aside from a theme park view in the courtyard view.

I have stayed at WL 3 times. 1) standard view 2) woods view 3) courtyard view. Our first stay in the standard view room was our honeymoon and we were unlucky enough to get placed above the service area, so we were awakened every morning of our honeymoon to the lovely sound of the back up beeps of trucks and dumpsters being lifted and emptied. We said never a standard view again. To us, it is worth the money. I actually preferred the woods view to the courtyard view- cheaper, quieter, and just a more peaceful feeling. The courtyard view was great too though. Plus if your son and one of the adults is in the pool, it might be fun to have a room where you might be able to see them from the balcony. If you plan to spend any time relaxing on the balcony, to me the upgrade would be worth it.

It depends on what you want. I'll summarize the views quickly:

- Standard: least expensive, but with not the greatest views. Great for those who spend more time enjoying the resort than looking off the balcony.
- Woods: mid-priced, with views of, well, woods. These tend to be the quietest and most peaceful rooms. If you don't care to see the feature pool or geyser from your balcony, these still offer nice views.
- Courtyard: highest pricest, but with often great views of the feature pool, geyser, and maybe even the lake if you're high enough. None of these view MK. Also, courtyard can also mean the smaller "courtyard" that overlooks the villas pool. This view isn't nearly as interesting, IMO, as the rooms in the main courtyard area.

I usually see a higher price difference between standard and courtyard (because I usually have to go in "regular" season), so it's normally not worth it to me to upgrade to that view (though I would at least upgrade to woods view). However, given only a $360 difference from "worst" to "best" view, I'd probably do it.

I'll chime in here, though, and say that I think we're missing a key piece of information. And that is, how long is your stay? If you're staying 4 nights, I'd say it's not worth the extra $360. That would be an extra $90/night for what, a better view? Sorry, count me out for that price. If you're staying a full week, now we're talking just over $50/night for a better view. That's still not really worth it TO ME, but I'm the type who usually prefers to go with the savings over any views. After all, $360 is at least 3 table service meals for your family of 4! But, hey, that's just me. I suppose $50/night is fairly reasonable at worst. Now, if you're lucky enough to be staying 10 days, the added cost becomes $36/night, and this is about where I think it's starting to become worth it.

Again, this is all very subjective and opinions will vary, but I think you have to consider how long your stay is before deciding whether or not the extra $360 is worth it. Just my two cents.

Cheers!

Uncle D.

We chose to "upgrade" to a CY view room for our trip this past December and we were facing the pool of the Villas, not the main pool and the water. We were disappointed and felt taken advantage of - so make sure you are fine with viewing either "Courtyard". Good luck!

This is my main hang up. The central courtyard view of the WL, in my opinion, is worth it, but I wouldn't pay the extra for the Villas Hidden Springs courtyard view.

Also--good question on how long you're staying. That could make a big difference in value.

We'll be staying for a week--11/28-12/5.

And, yes, I am slightly worried about that HORRID standard room view over the roof peaks! :scared:

Keep the opinions coming! DH and I are going to decide in the next couple days. We're going with the ILs, and they're fine with whichever!

I wouldn't worry too much about this. We had a standard view room once. The view wasn't great, but we could see the top of the Wishes fireworks nightly, as we were on a high floor. Mostly otherwise we saw the tops of really tall trees, and a service area below (it wasn't noisy at all). One good thing about standard view rooms is that they tend to be close to the lobby or right on top of it, which gets you to a lot of places you want to be quickly and not much walking.

We had a CY view last May, and absolutely loved it! DH sat out there every night and had a beer while enjoying the view. Where our room was located we could even see the really high fireworks from Wishes, and the Electrical Water Pageant when it went by. We used a code to upgrade us from a standard view to a CY view with bunkbeds, so we actually didn't pay any more, but I would totally upgrade on my next stay there even if it did cost extra.

We did Club Level and were disappointed with the view - twice. First room had a balcony surrounded by trees with no view at all. Air conditioning didn't work, so we moved to a CY view room. We were so far "inside" of the CY that we barely could see the water. A neck strain to the left resulted in a view of the pool. The AC unit on the roof made such a screech (day and night) that we couldn't enjoy the balcony. :sad2: Save you money and take the standard view which might be FAR better than CY.
