What are my options for a standard view room? What should I request?

I am also thinking about requesting bunkbeds, but I have read more than once that these rooms are dark.

I dont think my kids would care if they slept on a log once we get there, but I am taking Granma, and the last time I booked a room in Chicago for all of us it was horrible. I would like this one to be as nice as possible.

First, go ahead and request the bunkbeds, it doesn't change the lighting in the room. The rooms at WL are dark anyway. As far as standard rooms, your choice of views is limited. Most people request a room overlooking the lobby. That way when you open your door, you are looking at the beautiful lobby area, but noise is sometimes a concern. Other views are of the parking area.

I'm a petite adult and I didn't have a problem with the length or width of the bunk beds. I am 5-foot 3 1/2-inches and I weigh 118 pounds. I did think that the bottom bunk is too close to the top bunk though. I had to be really conscious of my head when I was getting into or out of bed. There is plenty of room from the top bunk to the ceiling, so I'm not sure why they didn't put taller standard bunks in. Anyway, in the bottom bunk you can't see the tv or read (it's too dark). But other than that it was fine for sleeping - which is really the important part.

I have to agree that the top bunk is way too close to the bottom bunk. My 11yo had to sleep in the top bunk because he wasn't able to sit up in the bed. My 7yo slept in the bottom but he also wasn't able to sit on the bed to put his shoes on. He also would hit his head. As for the lighting in the rooms, there is a light in the entrance hall of the room, a light over the vanity, lights over the bunk bed and the queen bed and also a lamp by the table and chairs.

By the way Antiguan -
I booked a standard view room at WL and when I faxed my request I asked for (in this order) bunk beds, non-smoking, away from elevators & stairs (and explained that we have a light sleeper in our party). When I arrived I was pleasantly informed that we had a complimentary upgrade to a beautiful view of the quiet pool and wooded area (room 3156). I don't know if my room request had any impact on that assignment, or if the hotel just needed to juggle rooms around a bit. Anyway, I wonder if I had requested to be put in a certain standard room area if they would have put us there and might not have moved us to where we were eventually placed. I will say this though - we were a LONG way away from the elevator, which was fine for us, but I had no idea how huge that resort was until I checked in. The pictures don't even do it justice in size or beauty. You're going to love it there. I would not hesitate to go back there again. Whispering Canyon has delicious food too.

Thanks for the tip. I will be careful how I word my request. I think i will just request bunk beds, no-smoking and see what happens. The noise doesnt bother us at all.

If the bunk beds were taller then I don't think they would have been able to put the light on the wall over the top bunk. And without that light it would really be dark.

How far in advance did you send this request, and where can I find the fax number to send it to? Normally I wouldn't care that much, but we're going to have our 2-year old and 6-month old sons with us, so it would be great to be near the elevator.

Kfeuer:

Go to www.wdwig.com and click on accommodations (top of page) then click on faxing room preferences (left side of page). There will be information on how to format a room preference request, how far out to do it (4 days), and what number to fax to.
Wdwig.com has a lot of great information for planning a trip. I especially like the section that lists menus at the restaurants.

Are the rooms over the Lobby considered on the south or north side. Also, is it really noisy if you get a room over the lobby?

Hi all.

I'll try to help. I've stayed standard twice at WL. Both times I requested lobby rooms(and got them). One room with bunks & the other with 2 queens. The standards that view the lobby are all over the check-in desk, which I believe is the South side of the hotel. The view from the balcony is of roof peaks - I think its the mercantile roof and the bus stop walkway/roof. (My family doesn't spend much time in the room, so the balcony view wasn't a big deal for us.)

I didn't hear much noise from the lobby at all when we were in the rooms for naps or bed. I do remember hearing people walk by the room if they were talking loudly - but traffic wasn't that bad, since there were only about 10 rooms on that hallway.

There are a few balcony extensions off of that hallway that go over the lobby with rocking chairs. It was nice to sit in those right across from the room while the kids were napping and take in the lobby.

Hope I helped - you'll love WL :D
