WL or Poly?

Hi All,

I am in the very early stages of planning my first trip (as an adult) to Walt Disney World. We are planning on going Fall of 2006 and will be travelling with a 5 and 3 year old. We want to stay at a deluxe resort. Which would you choose: The Poly or Wilderness Lodge.

Because of the ages of my children we will stick to Magic Kingdom (maybe try MGM) and want to be able to return to the hotel mid-day for naps before heading back. Is transportation to WL as convenient? I know the Poly is closer and is on the monorail which is my first choice. However, there is a substantial difference in price. I've read on some reviews that the boat service to MK from WL is not timely or convenient. Is this true? Any comments/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have never stayed at the Poly but have at WL. We didnt have any trouble with the boats coming or going to MK. It was a very nice relaxing ride. We loved the WL!!!!

I've never stayed at the Poly before, but I went there, and it was too dim for me. The WL is waaaay better. From the lobby to the shops.

Tough choice! Really you can't go wrong with either, but a few things to consider:

WL transportation to MK is by boat. It does take longer to take the boat to WL than the monorail to the monorail resorts. Poly has both boat and monorail to MK. You can take the boat non-stop to MK faster than the monorail, but the boat ride back stops at the GF first, then goes to Poly. The monorail comming back from MK takes the long way 'round, so it still may be longer than a boat ride, depending on crowd conditions. Either the monorail or the boat from Poly are usually faster than the boat from WL.

Both resorts have pools with slides, Poly's in totaly inclosed and in the dark, though, so that could scare some young children. WL's is out in the open.

Poly has a zero entry pool. I don't think WL does.

Poly rooms are a lot bigger. If you get a lagoon view you may get a view of the castle and/or fireworks. Even if you don't get a lagoon view, you can still see the fireworks from the Poly beach. No fighting the crowds trying to leave MK after the fireworks.

Hmmm, that's all I can think of to mention. Like I said, you should be happy at either.

Don't worry about that boat from WL. I find it faster, to be honest, than taking the resort monorail loop around to MK from Poly. Much faster. Now, WL is not easy walking distance to the TTC like Poly is, so you won't have access to the fast, direct monorails to EPCOT and MK.

We actually prefer WL, since we love those boats, but this time we will be staying at the Poly, mostly for transportation reasons. There's no other resort where you can literally stroll a little one all the way from the room to MK or EPCOT without having to fold up the stroller, or take a really long walk to accomplish it. That's a big advantage this time around for the Poly with a 6 YO DD and a 2 YO DD. When the 2 YO gets older, we'll probably return to staying at WL again. We LOVE WL.

We just got back yesterday from both of these resorts. We loved both of them, truly. We found the boat transportation at the Wilderness Lodge, to and from the Magic Kingdom, to be very convenient. We never had more than a 5 minute wait for a boat. The Lodge is beautiful. If price is an issue at all, choose the Lodge, I really don't think you'll be sorry :)

I find taking the bus back to WL is a lot faster than taking the boat. We prefer taking the bus to MK too. It's faster for us.

Poly is nice too. You got the monorail and the boat. We like the 0 depth entry pool. You can walk to the beach and watch the fireworks and watch the EWP at 9am.

Do you like the National Park theme or the Tropical Island theme? I like them both. Both are my favorites! But which ever you choose, you can't go wrong and you'll have a great time.
