WL or Poly? Is Poly worth the extra money? First time vistor to the resorts. Need info on pros and cons of each.

WOW - WIN/WIN on both of these.

Poly
Plus:
on the monorail, plus boat transpo
larger rooms
great restaurants sit down and counter
great theme
watch fireworks and castle from the beach
Con:
Check in, restaurants in seperate building from rooms
no hot tub

Wilderness Lodge
Plus:
Incredibly relaxing and romantic -- how you can feel as if you are truly in the mountains miles and miles away from anything is amazing.
great restaurants sit down and counter
Incredible pool area
Rooms, check in, restaurants in same building

Con:
Not on monorail
Unable to see Castle from grounds

Poly:
+'s --> on the monrail, pool is right next to beach, you can lounge on their cute cabana chairs, fireworks from the beach, pool is nicely themed but kind of small,

-'s --> no hot tub. OUTBUILDINGS (the is the killer for me.) they can be so far away from the main building.

WL

+'s --> one building, everything is centrally located. the pool is fairly large, the geyser is fun to look at. rooms are very nice, has amazing restaurant 'artist's point'. i've heard that their store has the largest selection of groceries/gifts than all the other resorts.

-'s --> not on the monrail, the lobby can get pretty loud because of WHispering Canyon Cafe

:D Either way, you'll be pleased with your resort i think.

i think i said everything that the person above me said. oh well. just backing them up, i guess. lol

I have stayed at both resorts which are great in their own way and you can't go wrong no matter which one you choose. Personally I would go with the Polynesian because I like their theme just a bit better, plus they have Resort Monorail access, walkway to the TTC and bigger rooms.

We have stayed at the Poly four times and love everything about it. The only bad thing is it does not have a hot tub. We have not stayed at the WL and 99% we never will (don't get me wrong, it is a beautifully done resort but the theme does not appeal to us--looks like too many we see in neighboring Wisconsin and we are not the outdoorsy/woodsy/cabin type; plus on our two visits there we've had unpleasant encounters wth CM's...one who lied to us).

I would pick the Poly.

IMO, yes the Poly is worth the extra money...BUT I still really, really like the WL. DH says all the time that if the monorail ran to the WL, he would be there every trip. We have small children in strollers so the monorail works well for us....just roll the strollers on without having to break them down. I can't say anything bad about WL....it's just that I prefer the Poly. Like a PP said, you really can't go wrong with either resort. Check out the resort photo threads on each resort and decide for yourself. Each resort is sooooo different. There are 3 links below that will give you pictures of each resort...Poly, WL and my TR.

Happy Planning!!!

KatMark, no offense, but every time someone discusses WL you chime in with its rude staff and horrible food. You had one experience, why keep harping on it? Over the last 20 days you put down WL over 35 times (yes I counted in your posts)

Get over it please, its getting old

I like them both for different reasons, but WL takes the cake for me. I know Poly is on the monorail and close to TTC, but WL has a inner rooms which to me is the best part. I like that we don't have to walk outside to get to the main lobby or to get to the restaurants and gift shop. When it's raining or hot, everything is right there for you. We also like the wonderful theming. I know that some people do not like this because it feels like home, but to me, since we live in a place that doesn't look anything like it, we love the feel of the lodge.

Opinion was asked for and I gave my opinion. We have been there twice as my DH's request. And I am taking offense as I don't see you "calling out" anyone who makes "the same complaint" about other resorts -- the CBR, the CR, POR, CSR or any other resort. If you don't care for what I post, don't read it.

I've stayed at both and agree that it is a win/win situation.

On the practical side, there are three main differences:

1. Poly's rooms are bigger.
2. WL has one large building, Poly has several separate ones.
3. Poly has more transportation options.

We need the extra room now, but if we didn't, I would probably stay at WL, if only because of cost.

While I like the transportation options at Poly better, we did just fine when we were at WL.

I prefer the theming at WL. Poly feels a little stuck in the 70s for me.

The views around Poly are much better IMHO than WL. The beach and direct views of the fireworks are great.

I like the separate buildings of Poly. WL is pretty large, and you can be walking down corridors for a good ways. I find that loud and sterile. I much prefer walking around Poly's grounds.

Really I don't think you can go wrong. Both are great resorts.

I stayed at the Poly in Dec last year and LOVED it. Loved everything about it...the restraunts are all great, great views of the castle, proximity to TTC and MK is WONDERFUL and the CM are so wonderful to work with. That being said, when we took a peak at WL while we were there, my DH said, wow I wish we were staying here. I know it had a lot to do with it being xmas so don't know if we'd choose to stay here any other time of year, but it is beautiful year round and much cheaper than Poly. I won't miss Poly and excited to be staying at WL.....

KatMark, over the two years I've been on here I may not agree with everything you say, but I sure do appreciate what you say; that is why it's called opinion. Here's a big cyber hug to show you my appreciation.

(And as you know, this hug comes from a big WL fan).

Hi All,

I'm actually thinking the same thing -- although I'm currently at CBR and thinking of upgrading to either WL or Poly. Does the monorail really save time going to and from the parks? Does it come more frequently than the buses?

Thanks!

For us, Poly. But LOVE the theme there...after reading all these posts of pros/cons...you can decide what theme is more to your liking! Good luck-either resort is great!

Yeah could someone fill us in on the monorail? Is it faster to get to the parks than the bus or boat? Also if traveling from WL to epcot would it be quicker to take a boat to the TTC and get on the monorail or take the bus all the way? Thanks everyone for the help.

I am wondering the same thing. We visited the Poly in January, and we loved everything about it (theme, layout, fireworks view, food, easy transportation options to MK and Epcot) except for the rooms, which we thought were dingy, dark, dank, and pretty well dinged up.

The big question for me about WL is the transportation. How often do the boats and buses run from WL to MK?

Thanks!

Monorail transportation is GREAT! But you pay for it too. The boat is a very nice perk from the WL too. When we stayed at WL we waited nearly 40 mins for a bus to EPCOT in that time the crowd waiting became HUGE so we decided to take the boat to Contemporary & hop on a monorail to TTC & then onto to Epcot. Ran into a lady we had waited with for a bus & she filled us in that she waited another 20 min. for a bus. Now, sometimes the bus system is great -I think when it's a busy time of yr more buses are out....just our experience.

yes! when we stayed at the poly in 2008 we waited about 2-5 minutes for a monorail to the MK or back to the poly. even if you just missed it one is only like 5 min away, not even.we waited about 5-7 minutes going to epcot and 5 minutes coming back. the monorail is really good and deff comes more frquentl than busses.

there is no boat from WL to TTC only to Ft wilderness contemporary and MK. you can take the boat to the contemporay or MK then take the monorail to TTC then monorail to epcot.this can be faster depending how long if a wait for a boat, if one is just pulling up this could be faster. i dont know how the busses are at WL so i dont know though. but you would onlyy be wait about 5 min or less for a monorail to the TTC then another 5 min for epcot.
