I am in the same boat WL vs AKL...which one?

I am staying @ AKL for chrstimas and hoping there are no more renovations going on...well at least none that would have to move us. I am excited to see some animals. I've only heard good things about AKL so I would reccomend it.

I like WL for close access to Magic Kingdom .

AKL all the way for me! And I don't really care much about the animals.

Word of advice: If you select WL and use WDW transportation and you're leaving the Magic Kingdom at closing time, don't get in line for the boat. Hang out in the MK. Look through stores, take it all in, whatever. Just let the people clear out. The wait for the boat can be a looong, looong, loooooooong wait. That's my opinion on that, anyway.
