I'm Darren, long time reader/first time poster. I'm also a big fan of Disney parks. I've been to Disneyland more times than I can remember, but my wife and I will be heading to the World in August for my 30th birthday, she wanted my 30th to be special and let me be a big kid :) Dates are Aug 9-16, on the FT package, staying at the WL. Last time we went was in 2000 for our honeymoon, we stayed at Dixie Landings. I prefer that name, it has sentimental value ;) That was my 4th trip to WDW, but my first time staying on property. It's the best way to experience WDW!

Anyhoo, my birthday is on Monday, the 11th. Any suggestions on what to do? When we made our reservations, they noted the trip was for my 30th b-day, but I'm stumped on what to do and where to go, so I want to read some suggestions on what to do. I'm reading some books right now as well, but I like to hear from more than once source, hence buying more than one WDW guide :) We've been to California Grill, and we will be going back, hopefully not running up another $200 bill in the process :) So, fire up those keyboards and let the suggestions flow!

Oh yeah, I know historically it's supposed to be crowded, but given the economy and stuff, what kinds of crowds can we expect?

hi ktulu,

welcome!

you will love the wl. it is my favorite resort in the whole world. a couple of suggestions are to have dinner at artist point restaurant in the wl. very nice restaurant. also, make sure you enjoy the resort. there are many things to do, there is a walking trail, renting boats, or just sitting in the lobby and soaking in the ambiance.

good luck, and have a magical vacation. :D

Hey Darren,

I will be at WL from 8/10 to 8/17 celebrating my 29th birthday, my grandmother's 81st birthday and my son's first birthday!

I have some suggestions for you:

1. Go on a "Keys to the Kingdom" tour. This is a 5 hour tour at the MK that gives you lots of behind the scenes info. You get to go under the park into the Utilidors. VERY cool!

2. How about a couples massage at the Spa at the Grand Floridian? Very romantic!

3. You must eat at O'hana in the Polynesian resort. This is an amazing restaurant and if you time your PS right you can see the MK fireworks from your table or better yet, walk along the beach of the Polynesian and watch the fireworks.

4. If you can, book a fireworks cruise for either Fantasy in the Sky at the MK or Illuminations at Epcot. These are hard to get, but there are always cancellations.

5. Have dinner at BOMA in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. This is my husband's favorite! It is absolutely delicious!

Hope this helps a bit.

Look for my "gang" of seven at the WL!!! See you there!!!!!!

Its pretty cool that your a DL guy who is going to WDW for your 30th.

I'm a long time WDW person who got taken to DL for my 30th birthday.

I loved it.

What a great way to forget that you are turning the big 3-0!!!

Of course, I told the friend who took me to DL for my 30th that he has to take me to Disneyland Paris for my 40th. :p

Anne, I'll keep an eye out for a large group of people matching your description :) Thanks for the suggetions, I was thinking about the tour, and I want to eat at Ohana. I think I'll let the wife know we need to make a PS for Ohana now :)

dznyntnh, that's great! DL is alot of fun, I prefer certain rides there to WDW, such as the DL Pirates of the Carribean, and DL also has Indiana Jones :D Both are great places though! I get my DL fix when I visit family, and my WDW fix when we need a long vacation. I'd like to visit Tokyo Disney for my 40th. My wife thinks I'm crazy :)

You shouldn't experience too long waits for attractions. The crowds start to twindle around the 2nd week of Aug. due to school starting throughout MOST of the U.S.:D

My wife and I will be at WL for my 30th birthday Aug 30 through Sept. 6. This also marks our 5th anniversary--our 1st anniverasry was also spent right there at the WL. Have a great time Darren and doesn't it suck to turn 30!!!

I don't think it's sunk in that I'm turning 30 :) I don't think I'll care while I'm at WDW, but it'll probably hit me when I get back home and go to work.

Congrats on your upcoming Anniversary! My wife and I spent our first anniversary in California, we hit DL and CA during that trip, first time for both of us at CA. You have a great trip too illiram!
