I just wanted to be in the Magic Kingdom area for convenience. I went with WL but now I'm thinking I should have booked CR but I all I can afford is a wing room. The CR room is actually $156 cheaper for my entire stay. Please help! Give me your opinions.

Thanks.

I've stayed at both the WL and in a garden wing room at the CR. I think the WL is the better choice. Granted, that is based on our personal preference for the WL theme over the CR theme, but we like the WL much more. Perhaps if you were considering the tower it might be a different story, but our stay in the South Garden Wing just wasn't that special. Mind you, the CR location is a little better than the WL (monorail access and walk to the MK), but the WL boats are convenient and nice.

Are there separate boats that go to the Contemporary or any of the other monorail resorts?

I, too have stayed at both!!

First, are you traveling with young children? If so, WL is better. They have a wonderful kiddie pool which my 4.5 dd LOVED!!! You can grab a nice frozen drink from the pool bar & watch your child "swim".

If you are traveling with older children (teens), CR might be a better choice. The bathroom set up is bigger & nicer. You have a seperate room for the toilet w/ a mirror & plug so the others in the room cannot hear the blow dryers. Thought I really love WL, I'm not to keen on the bathroom set up. The toilet & shower are in 1 room. The sinks are outside. However, thought they are set away from the beds, there is no door so you can very clearly hear the blow dryers.

In CR, too, the rooms are bigger.

If you are just 2 adults, well then either is fine.

Tranportation is wonderful from both resorts.

Good luck!!

There is a boat that goes WL/CR/FW (any order). The other boat goes WL/FW/MK.

I just got back from WL and we did eat Thanksgiving dinner at Chef Mickey (a quick boat ride from WL). The theming at CR was ??????????????? I'm still trying to figure it out. The pool area is neat, if you like concrete. The lobby was hideous (pink walls and CM's in bright purple jackets). If I had to guess a theme, I would say "Airport". Skinny escalators with blue neon signs above. The WL was wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We thought it was even more impresssive than AKL. A perfect all-around resort! It was just so pretty..breathtaking is more like it. Unless you were staying in the tower, I would say WL is well worth the extra $156.

If anyone has stayed at the Contemporary lately in the wing rooms, please tell me if the rooms were nice or in need of refurbishment.

I may be a little late chiming in here, but we just returned from the Contemporary NGW through Shades of Green, and if I was in your shoes, I would DEFINITELY choose the WL instead.

Don't get me wrong, for the price we paid at the Contemporary ($78/night) I certainly can't complain, but if there was only a $156 price difference between the two resorts, it would be no contest for me. I didn't like the theming at the Contemporary at all. It just didn't seem "vacation-y" to me. I agree with the OP who described it as an "airport" feel, although I would have gone with hospital waiting room! LOL

The rooms at the CR were clean and roomy, but the garden wings are definitely showing a LOT of wear and tear and are in bad need of a rehab. There are scuff marks everywhere on the walls in the hallway, and lots of peeling wallpaper. It's not at all dirty, just seems a little run down. Our cabinet door fell off several times, and we were missing knobs on the bathroom vanity. All this I could overlook for the great rate we received, but if I had paid any more than we did, I would have certainly asked to be moved to another resort.

It was nice staying at a monorail resort, but the monorail was actually quite a hike from our room. We also didn't like being in a separate building from the main lobby, shops, etc.

We visited the WL for dinner during our trip, and were really disappointed that we weren't staying there instead. The next time around, if Shades of Green isn't available, we'll definitely spend the extra money to stay at the WL. We just felt like we missed too much in theming this time around.

Hope this doesn't sound too negative, we didn't hate the CR, but we don't think we'd return again.

Have fun no matter what you decide!

I stayed in the South Garden Wing last March. It was perfectly fine: no problems with maintenance, cleanliness, or housekeeping. I didnt' mind the walk to the Tower at all: the less than five minutes to the monorail station adds to the suspense.

Having said that, I know many SOG guests have been transferred to the North Garden Wing wghile SOG is being remodelled. The NGW has probably run at 100% occupancy for close to a year, leaving little time for rehab. I don't doubt the walls have scuff marks or wallpaper is peeling. Anyone care to back me up on this?

Bottom line: I'd ask to stay away from the North Garden Wing. If you can't get South Garden Wing, opt for WL. But consider this: the rooms at the CR are the largest on-site.

One advantage to staying at either resort is that you can visit the hotel you missed out on. Boats run between the Contemporary and WL continuously.
