Long time lurker- first time poster! We are planning our first trip to WDW for late October: me, DH and 2 kids (4 and almost 6 at the time of travel). I have my heart set on the WL but have a room question. Is it worth getting bunkbeds over 2 queens? Not just in terms of "entertainment" value for the kids but in actual floor space? Or should I just save the estra $$? :confused3

I'm sooo excited, I can't wait!!!

First of all Welcome :yay:

Well I prefer two queen size beds but our DS is grown :) I think another poster somewhere on the board said you get more room with one queen & bunkbeds. I think it is just what you are use to. Do your kids fall out of bed as the bunk beds might be easier to fall out of maybe. Last time I stayed at the WL with my DS & DIL our room had one queen & bunk beds I didn't want a bunk bed & my DS got the two queen beds so we just switch rooms. Good luck. Have a blast at Disney.:thumbsup2

There is extra floor space but it's not really usable except for a place to leave your suitcases or stroller.

The bunkbed is not up against the sidewall. Instead it's out about 2 feet from the wall, leaving a long narrow corridor between the wall and the bed, rather than having extra floor space in the middle of the room.

When we got bunk beds their was not an extra charge. I would rather have a non standard view over bunk beds when my kids were that age but now 10 & 7 Boy & girl I would pay for bunk beds.

we did the bunk beds and they worked out really well, kids were 4 & 5. The bunk beds have side rails that the kids could not fall out. We liked it especially when trying to get them to sleep. If they were in the same bed they would just keep playing, by seperating them they slept better.

Wow, thanks for all the prompt feedback!
Hmmm, if the bunks are not right against the wall, I think it would be safer to have the kids share a queen and save the bunkbed treat for when they're older (haven't even been the first time yet and am already planning when to return lol!).

We're at WL in June. We opted for the bunkbeds to keep the kids from fighting, not playing. We have a DS (3) and DD (9) and when they've shared a bed, they fight like crazy.

Depends on your kiddos. Mine are 4 and 7 and many nights end up in OUR bed. So it will be 2 queens for us - that way we can fit better if the kids decide to bunk with us.

I know what some of you are thinking - BUT One day when they are teenagers they WON"T want to sleep with mom and dad - so we enjoy it while we can. (even if it is cramped sometimes):)

Carlyzmom, I can totally relate to that lol... My kids come in so often at night I've taken to leaving a mattress on the floor! But as you say, too soon they won't want anything to do with us, it goes by so fast.

We stayed at AKL a year ago and our kids were 6&3 at the time. The bunk beds worked great and actually influenced us staying at the WL instead of the BC. After seeing how great it worked out, I am not sure why all the resorts don't have them as an option considering WDW's demographic.

As an earlier poster said, even though they are away from the wall, they have a good rail system on the sides and the top bunk is entered from by the feet, so I felt very comfortable with it.

Our kids move around a lot in their sleep and wake each other (or us) up, so we absolutely loved the BBs.
