Interesting news from CRO today. I called to add a day to my ressie (standard view - bunk beds) and I was told that they no longer have bunk beds in the standard view rooms. I was informed that this is a very recent change (maybe still in process - my dates are 9/16-9/25). Just wanted to give a heads up for any others that have requested bunk beds in their standard view room. We actually ended up upgrading to a courtyard! :cool1:

Are you saying Disney upgraded you at no cost, or you chose to move to courtyard view?

I asked for bunk beds and connecting rooms for 10/8-10/15 - at of reservation back in January they did not say that they weren't available?

So, should I just leave it alone and hope for an upgrade when we get there?

I should have made that more clear. I am paying for the upgrade. If I hadn't had to add on the day - I would have left it alone and tried for a free upgrade when I checked in. I just wanted everyone to know that I was told that bunk beds aren't avail in the standard view rooms anymore so no one gets a yucky surprise at checkin. Who knows, the CRO rep may have been wrong and they're still available (especially knowing how CRO can be wrong sometimes :rolleyes1 ).

I thought the CM just didn't know what she was talking about so I didn't press the issue! I was going to call back and put the request for bunks in later.

Standard (aka parking lot) view is fine, but that Courtyard view is sweet! And the bunkbeds are gonna be worth it, you know it.

My advice is to be sure to save plenty of time to spend at WL, since it is just so cool, and thoroughly themed. We spent a week at AKL in '03 and the one comment I had on the way back was: "I wish we had spent more time at the resort". I would assert that the same is true at WL, tho we've stayed in the Villas and not the Lodge proper; that time we did set aside some time just to hang around and enjoy the resort, and were glad we did.

Have agreat trip!

Hi!
You're post concerned me because when I booked our standard room I had forgotten to request bunks. So, I called to request the bunks and the reservation guy said no problem. He may not just not know of the changes but it never hurts to ask.

Also, when I called and booked a standard room for DH and I, I requested a king bed. I was told they were no longer available in stnd. rooms. She put a request on anyway and we are just hoping to get an upgrade. An extra bed is just a wast of space when you dont need it. I still cant understand why this or the bunkbeds are no longer available? I dont really see them as an extra expense.....

Sadly, remember that bunk beds are only a request and not guarenteed. We learned that the hard way - in late April we requested bunk beds at AKL but nope, got two queens. No bunks available. We made do, but we were not totally comfortable! :scared: Next time if I want more beds, I will cough up the extra $$$$ for a deluxe with a daybed, or bring an air matress! So all of you wanting bunks - be prepared for queen beds, just in case! :teeth:

I guess since WL is popular, and bunk beds are popular, that Disney assumes they can get bunk-bed loving people to pay more by forcing them to upgrade to a more expensive view? Hmmmm ....

Wow... I am surprised they took the bunk beds out of standard rooms! They are such a big draw- at least in my opinion ;)

I would call the WL front desk and ask. They would know better than CRO.

This is correct. I had a CM tell me this just yesterday. They now no longer offer Bunk Beds in the standard view rooms at WL. You are free to make the request, but according to the CM they will not be able to honor it if you are in a standard view room.

They also do not have any smoking rooms in the standard view category.

Non of the standard view rooms connect, if you want a better chance of getting connecting rooms you have to book a woods view or better

This info I got directly from the front desk of the resort when I called with some questions a couple of months ago

So assuming that there were in the past, standard view rooms that used to have bunk beds, does it make any sense whatsoever that Disney would go to the expense of actually changing the furniture in a bunch of rooms just so that people who want bunks have to pay for a better view ??? Something just doesn't add up. :confused3

It makes perfect sense to me. I'm sure people will be willing to pay to have the chance to get bunk beds and the revenue will quickly surpass the cost of moving furniture.

I'm surprised that they do'nt just make bunk beds a guarantee and charge an extra $15 for them. Why? First, I think those who *need* them (opposite gender teens for example) will have no problem paying the small fee for it. Second, an extra bed is extra linens and extra housekeeping costs.

tOO BAD!

DD loved the bunk beds at AKL and was very excited about getting one
at the WL (our first time here). Oh well, I might be willing to upgrade if
I knew we would get a bunk bed but because there is no guarentee, I guess
I'll keep my standard room (I did request Bunk beds) maybe I'll get a little
pixie dust.

I know we'll like WL no matter the beds, I am happy to be going!

Wintermom :cheer2:

:sad2: not too happy about this, we are leaving on AUg 12 and have been telling the kids about the bunk bed rooms. Is this the same as AKL?

That still doesnt answer the reasoning for king beds...... its one less bed.

It's supply and demand, they charge more because they can, and people will pay. I have no problem with that.

Because once you put a king bed in, that commits the room to that set up. 2 people can fit in a king bed OR 2 queen beds; but a family of 4 can only use the 2 queen beds so by making more kings rooms, you're locking out a group, which then increases your chances of having the room just sit empty.

Make sense?
