The family and I just returned from a long w/e at WL. Here are a few observations. At checkin the "upsell" rate to go from a woodsview to concierge would have been $60/night. Woodsview to courtyard was $30/night (we had woodsview AP rates). We ended up doing the latter in order to get bunkbeds (only courtyard view had bunkbeds available). I was a bit apprehensive at the front desk but when we arrived at room 6043, I couldn't have been more happy. It is on the corner of the north wing in front of the falls and afforded a clear view of the geyser/bay lake. Being on the corner let us have a 270 degree view. In fact on Sunday we watched from our balcony what appeared to be a couple getting married on the end balcony by the lobby.
I have to admit this place has taken over as our favorite Disney property. In a word, WOW! The X-mas tree and all the decorations were fantastic. X-mas music playing throughout the resort really put you in the X-mas mood. Even though the temps were in the 60's (maybe low 70's one day) the pool was very warm and my kids went swimming. I would say the water temp was low 80's. The grounds were well kept (no surprise there) and all the CM's we encountered were very cordial.
Dinner at the Whispering canyon was all it was cracked up to be. My kids of 10 and 7 loved the antics along with the food. Asking for ketchup and the "pony race" were highlights.
Transportation to MK via the boat was great. Never much of a wait going but coming back after MVMCP on 12/14 was a different story. When we left MK after midnight, the line for the boat to WL was a bit long and this was just after one boat had left. So we hopped the Monorail to the TTC and caught the bus over to WL. Not sure if this was faster but we were "moving" and maybe that is what made it seem faster.
Bus transportation to EPCOT was "OK" on 12/13. From the time we arrived at the bus stop at WL till we got off at EPCOT it was between 30-40 minutes. This was around 11am.
One thing we were able to accomplish on Saturday night was see the 8:15pm CP at EPCOT then catch the monorail over to MK in time to see Spectromagic at 10pm. Since the late parade starts at Main ST the trick was to head straight back to frontierland and see the parade in it's entirety and also have a front row seat without having to put up with the big crowd on main st. Boat transportation back to WL that evening was not bad. Not a long line and only had to wait about 5 minutes for a boat.
Back when I was planning this trip we narrowed our choice down to AKL or WL. Since our plan was to go to MK for most of the w/e we ended up chosing WL. I don't think we went wrong.
