Wk Of Nov 11 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Quick drive by - got my 4 miles in over lunch in 42:38 (10:40/mi). It felt so much better than Monday's run, so woo hoo! :cool1:

I don't even try to keep up with this thread anymore.

Quick drive through. 3 miles is on the agenda this evening, and the Timberlake 1/2 marathon on Saturday. That will give me a 31+ mile week. Not too shabby.

Made a stop by the Base Exchange during my travels this morning, and they just put out a new shipment of Under Armour stuff. Picked up a fleece sweatshirt.

Dream Believer and Stacie - :welcome: Beware of Dave aka WWDave aka Panda, he ain't right.

Just a quick drive by today. I did read, but don't have time to respond to all.

No training for me today. Spent the day at the Dr. & hospital with my Mom. Turns out she has pneumonia:sick: She is not a happy camper.:sad2:

By the time I got her home and situated, I was already late for work. So, off I went and training went by the wayside today, although I'll still do my "Cam Crunches" went I get home.

Terri

I got 3 miles done on the track today. I even got home & did about 8 mins of abs with Mina Lessig. It would have been 12 mins., but the DVD kept choosing the 'roll like a ball' exercise & that kills my tail bone! I always skip the "strength" part of my training, so me doing any abs was a great improvement. :rotfl:

Now, off to Weight Watchers to kick my behind back into gear!
I have only 6 more weeks to Vegas, baby! ;)

Stacie: :welcome: Don't think of it as "only" running 5K. If you've never run in your life, it's a great start! We welcome everyone.

Terri: so sorry your Mom isn't feeling well. I hope she recovers quickly.

Bill: how's the cold?

nepatsfan Bill: where are you? Hope your back is doing well.

Vic: :cheer2: good luck on the 1/2 this weekend! Can't wait to hear your report.

Leana: happy to hear the run went better today than Monday!

Dana: that information from sparkpeople was most interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Judy: :wizard: that everything goes better then expected tonight!

Ran 30 minutes tonight and my ankle never hurt. It felt great. Tomorrow I've got my session with my trainer who will mercilessly hurt me. And I pay her for that!!

Have a great evening everyone!

Got in a 4 mile tempo run today--hopefully will be able to run tomorrow or Friday. DD has a Thanksgiving feast at school tomorrow, so DS and I are joining her for lunch. It should be really cute (but darn it, cutting into my training time!;) )

JenGA--Aaah, yes, the Optimator. It's a kind of beer they offer in the German pavilion. Spaten Optimator--super yummy, but a little on the dark side, heavier on the alcohol. It's super yummy. DH and I always stop at the little beer/pretzel stand in Germany to get one (or maybe two, depending on the trip!)

Kristi--all I can say is WOW on your schedule! I did night's for a while after Emma was born and it about killed me, and I was only working 1 or 2 a week.

Stacie--WELCOME!

cguill--I was in your shoes last year. I was training for a race, but not Disney as I decided late in the ballgame to give the 26.2 a try. But even though I wasn't training for the same race most others were, this group of great people got me through the great times and pulled me out of the valleys! The weekly thread just keeps going on, and on, and on (kinda like the Energizer bunny) regardless of event. Keep posting, so we'll get to know you better

Judy--hope the IL dinner wasn't too much torture!

Well, I should go and make sure hte kidlets haven't destroyed anything. DH is away on business for a couple days, so I'm "single parenting" it. Many kudos to any single parents around here--I've had just about as much as I can take already!

When will a new thread start for the 2009 Training ??? I don't feel any connection here as I just started on this thread & its more for the 2008 people, which I certainly understand. Will a new one start right after the 2008 events are over ??? I would be interested in coming back then, we are just at different points in our training ....

Don't worry these weekly threads are for everyone not just the ones doing the races in January. I think there are specific threads that talk more about what everyone will be doing in January at the WDW races, this one here is mainly to discuss everyone's training no matter where they are in their training. I for one am not running in January so don't feel like you are the only one not doing the 2008 events in January. I think since its so close to the January races and so many WISHers are going to be there they are all strictly focused on those events and that is what they are mainly focusing on - I am sure those that are doing the Goofy must be going GOOFY right now with training - that is ALOT of miles :scared1: !!!

As for me there hasn't been much training going on and it doesn't look good for training coming up any time soon. My shoulder pain has become constant now (used to be off and on and only really bothered me after a LR) For some reason (sitting here at the computer) it started bothering me non stop since last night. The last time I was out running was yesterday AM but I only did 2 miles. I called a Dr. but the one I want to go to isn't available until next week and I am going out of town this weekend and won't be back until Tuesday so I got an appointment for Tuesday afternoon. I am hoping it isn't anything major :scared: as I am so ready to get back out there and get some miles in. I really should be getting off this thing since it doesn't make my shoulder feel any better

Renee - You are probably NOT too old to adventure race. We did our 1st one 3 years ago when the boy was 2yo. I'm now 37, Phil is going to be 38 in Jan and our other race partner will be 39 in dec. We are all excited about when we turn 40 so we can race as a masters team!!:lmao:

I differ in opinion. I feel a GREAT connection to everyone on this board. I did not get to meet all at ToT and I am not in training for the 2008...but I am in training for the Minnie and will be at the 2009 (still unsure how Goofy I am yet). The training advice is great and the banter is priceless. This thread keeps me motivated and encourages me to do bigger and better things (hence the Goofy again). :cheer2:

Come to the dark side, it ain't so bad!!!! :lmao:

I agree. Stay away from these people. They're strange. All of them. I just post here so I can look at everyone else's weirdness and feel more normal myself.

Kidding. I honestly have to agree with the others. This group is great if you're training for ANY event. Most of the discussion on this forum focusses around general training and encouragement, not so much specifically for one event. True, most are training for WDW 2008, but the friendships on this board go way past one single event. I'll tell you this much. This January will be the first marathon weekend that Krista and I aren't going to be with her parents in WDW, and you know what? We're somewhat excited that we'll have that much more time to spend with this great group. I think that says a lot about what's become of this WISH team.

Hope you can stick around and get to know everyone. There are so many now, I really have trouble keeping up with everyone on a semi-consistent basis, but just jump in and keep posting about your training, life in general, etc. Everyone will completely understand, as we're all endurance athletes and all go through some of the same struggles in our daily lives.

Good to have you here!

Steve

Now Vic, you know that I'm just following the lead of the master. Are you still hearing the voices?

We found big Vic on the side of the road, on our way to DisneyWorld, he was holding a sign:

Innocent as the new fallen snow, Panda:hippie:

Hi Everyone-

It's official. I have the flu. I missed BOTH runs yesterday and I can't run today. 22 training miles gone. Saturday's long run is in jepardy too. :scared1: The good news is I am mostly too miserable to care. I know, I know, Listen to your body. Do you really want to know what your body says when it has the flu? I didn't think so.

Judy - I think holding your tongue at your In-laws is definately cross training! I have to do the same thing and its hard.

Krista - Thanks for answering about the eliptical. I know she will be glad to hear that.

Shan - We all have rough runs. Sometimes we have several in a row. The trick is to keep trying. It will get easier with consistant effort. You have lots and lots of time before the ING half to get ready. Hang in there!

Cecilia:sick:

Cecelia: Sorry about the flu...how about some virtual chicken soup?? :stir: Hope you feel better soon!!!!!!

cquill, I'm not doing the 2008 WDW Marathon Weekend, either. (Although, my plan is to do the half in 2009.) I'm training for my second 10K and then the ING Georgia half in March. It does seem like most here are planning for WDW, but despite this thread being very hard to keep up with, this is a great bunch of people. They've helped me as a newbie many, many times. :thumbsup2

Good morning all!!! :goodvibes

We will see if my legs/body took the hint yesterday and can run an acceptable pace (for me anyway:rotfl: ). It is pouring buckets here which is good I guess because about 3 hours north, they are getting piles of snow!! I have 45 minutes of running today and then weights. Good thing I will be in the gym, I guess, even though I dislike being indoors. I read the other day that people who exercise outside are 60% more likely to stick with their exercise program. Guess we are not ALL crazy....:confused3

Good morning everyone! :surfweb:

cecilia: YUK on the flu!! OK, so if you don't listen too closely to your body but get the general idea that you should rest, that's listening good enough.

Stephanie: let us know how the Thanksgiving feast at DD school goes! Look at it this way, you're carbo loading for the upcoming training run. Then you need to carbo reload to make up for the deficit! That's my strategy and it's working really well.

WWDave (aka Panda): LOVED the picture of Bill!

Bill: you are very photogenic! Didn't know you could get so involved in a sport! ;)

cguill: please don't go away! We welcome everyone and are very supportive of any race you are running! There is another thread for posting your race results and stories after you've run one; it's usually started around the end of the week and lists what races people are running. We want to hear how your workouts are going. And post your results here too!

TnTsParty: sorry to hear about the shoulder pain. :wizard: for it to get better!

I worked out with my trainer this morning. She always hurts me but in a good way. I have next week off due to the holiday and I may mix things up a little for long runs. I usually do my long runs on Sundays and will run 3 1/2 hours this weekend. However, I think I might do the long run on Friday after Thanksgiving rather than on Sunday. I don't hit the malls that day so this will give me something to do. Anything to break up the monotony.

Have a great day everyone!

Hey cguill! I do understand what you are saying. I am not running WDW08 (1st time in 4 years I haven't run it) so I also sometimes feel out of the loop. However, this is a great group. Where are you in your training? I bet someone on the thread is there too. I think I have seen some of your posts. You are pretty speedy! I am doing a marathon Dec. 8th of this year in Charlotte, NC so I am at a different point in my training than anyone else too. Keep posting here though.:goodvibes

Speaking of training....
I ran 3.5 yesterday. Not really sure of the pace b/c for some reason, my watch stopped at 11 min. So I am going to say I ran 3.5 in 11 min. Ha Ha Ha! I think I was doing like an 8 MPM...but not sure. It was kinda hill work. Just b/c my neighborhood is so hilly.

Sounds Good --- Thanks All --- & believe me I was not trying to be rude in anyway, I know things can come across in a weird tone when reading & not actually speaking to a person. You all seem GREAT - I will hang in there !!!:thumbsup2

Glad to hear you are staying. I am in a maintenance phase right now so I just post what I do every day and, heck, if I have a bad day (or week like this one), the Great Panda has a BMZ thread for that today too. :lmao: I won't start training for Minnie until January and then go right back into maintenance after that. I am just happy to run and happy to finally find people who do not take things SOOOOOOO serious.

PandaDave Can I order my photo in a shadow box? Unfortunately, they don't give out medals at the Mud Hole Belly Flop championships, but they do have pork rinds in three flavors and all the chewing tobacco you can pack between your cheek and gums at the post event celebration. (I save the used chaw in baggies and label them from each event.) The only tough part is the judges seem biased against us Northerners, even when we create the biggest and highest splashes.
