Wk of May 25 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hello everyone!
Wow, go away for a 3 day weekend and poof!

Quick congrats to everyone who got in events/training!
Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend.

Not too bad here. Hip/back is slowly healing. Most of the swelling has gone down and I can now get up and down stairs w/o having to drag the right leg along and walking picking up the foot instead of shuffling. However still can't bend very far, stretching to the sides not good and sneezing brings on tears. Going to head back to office tomorrow and see how it goes. Need to bring pillow along to keep back straighter.

I'm so ready to be back out! :( I mean come on... it's been over a week. I should be healed and back out there! Ugh.

Hope everyone is having a good day!

Oh on the college front, DS did his first year about 2 hrs away. In some ways it was too close plus they call it Romeoville South since so many from this high school go there. He roomed with friends, had classes with friends, came up on weekends just cause, friends driving down by them, etc. In the fall he'll be attending Manchester University - yep Manchester UK. He is really looking forward to it and I think it's a fantastic opportunity for me to vacation...um no wait, for him. Yeah, that's right, great for him.

Thank you so much for all the comments on the cake! :goodvibes It was really fun, and I am totally hooked on making cakes for any occasion I can think of. (And this really doesn't work well with trying to lose weight and train for endurance events...) :rotfl2:

To answer a few questions -

Wow, Lynnda, that is quite a cake! Is there any left over? (Krista told me to ask). :)

Ummmm... :rolleyes1 well.... you know you can NEVER let cake and frosting go to waste (especially frosting) so someone had to sacrifice and make sure it got eaten.... :lmao:

Lynnda: That cake is amazing! How did you make it? I'm guessing the "sand" is sugar? Is the road fondant? What about the rocks (candy?) and cacti? And the sign?

Thank you!!! DH got most of the details. I used a half sheet, then a 10" square, a 9" round, and an 8" round. I carved out the road, then covered everything with buttercream and crushed graham crackers. (Thank you DH!!! :lovestruc ) The road is fondant with white icing for the stripes. The rocks are fondant, some I tried painting, others I used colored fondant. And the cactus and sign are royal icing, and I painted the sign with food coloring. The lettering was icing because the painting wasn't going as well as I had hoped... but it was super fun to make!!!! Beware the mess that comes from all that crushed graham cracker, though. :rotfl:

Lynnda - From a fellow cake baker...AWESOME job on the cake! I love it! Great idea to use graham crackers...I thought it was brown sugar! You mind if I steal a photo for my idea book? I keep all kinds of photos of different cakes to refer to. It saves me from having to be too creative!

I would be honored! I can't take credit for this idea, though. I saw it on Cake Central, and modified it to work for us. I LOVE looking through all those pictures for ideas!!! ;)

Bill/Lynnda--That cake is fabulous!!! I love it! Did you ever post pics of Timmy's cake? I'm going to second Craig, Lynnda you need to be business for yourself.

I think Bill posted pics of Timmy's cake around mid-April. I will try to go back and find them. It was Blues Clues with the 3-D house and the characters standing in the yard. I was debating between that (because Timmy adores Blue and Joe) and a 3-D Pooh cake with Pooh sitting on a checkered picnic blanket. I'm still looking for excuses to make that cake... maybe Carter will be a Pooh fan???? :goodvibes

Oh, and the funniest part of the party was when a lady came up in the middle of Chick-fil-A and asked for my phone number so I could make her daughter a Hannah Montana guitar cake. I kept telling her I only made cakes for fun, and she said I could just as well have fun making her daughter a cake, then. :lmao:

Lynnda---did you ever write a RR for the WDW Danskin? I would love to hear about it.

Thank you so much for asking! I actually didn't write a RR as such since I had this cake to make right after Danskin. ;) Also, I was so very disappointed in my performance, I didn't really want to see it in print. But, time has passed, and I have gotten more perspective on things. ;) Anyway, I wrote about the event itself in the thread titled "mini-triathlon". (I'll try to find it and put the link in.) As for me, my main goal was improving my time on the swim as most of my training efforts had been focused on that. I knew I could nail it in 10 minutes or less, and I had been doing that pace for a while in training, even on much longer distances. I started out with a bad strategy, though - I lined up at the back of the wave thinking I would let the faster swimmers get out, and be able to relax and focus on my form. I ended up getting stuck in a group of ladies that didn't really know how to swim, so the first 100 yards I was floundering, getting kicked, grabbed, knocked in the head, etc. I made it past them, and did okay until I rounded the bouy. By then, I had caught up with those at the back of the wave in front of me. I absolutely love that Danskin has swim angels in the water to help the swimmers, but they were very difficult to get around and away from. I knew I was way behind my goal pace (I ended up almost 3 minutes slower.) So, needless to say, I was completely frustrated coming out of the swim. I kind of stomped around, and tried to get ready for the bike, but my head was not in it at this point. My T1 time ended up being 6 minutes. :lmao: It wasn't until halfway through the bike that I finally figured out that I had a race to finish, and I needed to learn from the experience and move forward. My bike ended up being 2 minutes faster than I had been training. T2 was much better, and the walk/run was actually 3 minutes faster than I had been doing in training. So, I have my list of what to work on for the next race, and I will be better and stronger! :thumbsup2

I'll be back later to catch up on the rest of the thread! Dinner time is approaching and little Timmy wants to get up from his nap. :hyper:

Z - It was great meeting y'all too. You are such a lovely couple. :lovestruc I felt like I had known y'all for years. Thanks for the pics, but I definitely look better in the "before" shot than the "during - almost at the end" shot. :rotfl2: My running buddy looks like she is having a great time, and I look like I'm about to die. :faint: I also need to get a better way to carry my drink than the 99 cent special from Wal Mart. ;) Glad to hear that your legs are killing you because so are MINE!! OUCH!!!

Lynnda - I have to ask, what did you use for the road on that cake? That was really COOL!!

Krista - Wow 11 weeks away. It sure seems like your pregnancy has flown by. Maybe not to you, but to us your cyber friends, it's been fast! :goodvibes

Hi everybody! :wave2: No time for more replies. Trying to get DS packed for his mission trip tomorrow. He has to be at the church at 5:45 AM tomorrow. :faint:

Howard—great job on the 5 miler!

Thank you Steve! I am back in it beginning today. I just got home from the gym where I logged 3 miles in 31 minutes and biked for 3.5 miles. Not much but it is a start.

Debra wrote:
Howard: What a great race for you, and a great finish to your semester. And what is this I hear? You're actually training for MCM and Philly? What's next, training for the Goofy?

Debra – Thanks for the note. I didn’t think I ran the 5 miler all that good. I had a sub-8 mile and some over 12. They averaged out to 9:37 though for the 5 miles. I am not a pro at this, I am still learning (stubborn as I am sometimes). Yes, I am actually going to train for the MCM and Philly races. Why? Because it seems like the “right thing to do.” The last marathon I trained for was the Delaware Marathon back in 2006. That was my first and remains my PR (4:41). My goal for MCM and Philly is to finish around 4:15 and improve from there in WDW if possible.

Shaily - :welcome:

Howard & Cam - congrats on the race!
THANK YOU TERRI!!!

Kristen, Kevin & Allie: Congratulations on your 5 & 10 K’s!!! Kevin… the “thumbs up” pose looks somewhat familiar!

Kristen & Kevin: We are looking forward to January 2009 with much delight… we are so blessed to have you as friends (make that family).

Krista: I want to put my order in early for about 4 hours of holding Carter along with all the requisite feedings, diaper changes, burpings, kisses and squeezy hugs.

:offtopic:
You posted the pictures without letting me see them first!!!! :badpc: :scared1:  ::cop: :faint: :confused3 :furious: :headache: You are in so much trouble...

Now back to your regularly scheduled posting. :rolleyes1

What are you talking about? You look much better than me!

At least you look like you are having fun, not one step away from death as I did. :rotfl2:

Howard--the first time that we're up all night with no sleep and a crying baby, I'm calling you to take you up on the 4 hour deal. Actually, how about a 4 day deal? ;)

Steve

Steve

I'll volunteer for the 4 hour shift when Carter is asleep. :lmao: I know better than to take the other shifts. Although depending on feeding schedules, you may get out easy Steve.

By the way, I will give my quick unsolicited advice with something we learned that we wish we knew earlier. If you haven't looked into the Baby Wise books, it might be worth it. We found out about this late with Billy and it solved many of our problems when we read through the books. With Timmy, infanthood was much easier. Timmy was actually sleeping through the night (7 hours) at 5 weeks and was much happier. When following the program, many of the issues with sleeping and feeding were absent.

Bill

Tracy: Yay for your weekend of ice cream + fun-filled activities. I'm currently going through withdrawal on the former, so enjoy a bowl for me. It definitely sounds like it was an Indy weekend for you, on all fronts. I already responded to your RR, but congrats on everything about it--especially avoiding the ambulance!

Shaily: Welcome to both the DIS and to WISH! :welcome: So they sucked you into EE as an inaugural event? Hey, you know that's what we like about Disney--they're always giving us something new to train for. I look forward to hearing about your training, your team, and your event.

Terri: WTG with the 2 miles. You're right--gotta restart some time, might as well be today. And the best thing is that it felt good, which I think is a good sign that you're already getting a jump start on recharging your batteries. (Groan, I really had to work for that bad pun.)

Aloha Jeff: It sounds like your visit with your Oregon friends went wonderfully for everyone involved, including the little veggies. Cool bit about the boogie boarding, too. Ice cream after dinner?? And sharing ice cream? Um, okay. I'll work on changing the order of my eating habits and adopting proper WISHer etiquette. :rotfl2: Btw, I like your "plan" for making Hawaii and Disney more affordable--I just need to make more friends and find more long-lost relatives. Hey, did I ever tell you that you look just like my second cousin once removed? ;)

Allyson: I think it's already been mentioned by Claire, but MfM also has a run/walk or a walk/run plan--I used the RW to train for. I find that a walk interval now and then helps me with my HR and with the mental challenges of the distance. Not that you need to abandon any idea of running 30 minutes straight--I'm not saying that--but I just think we should all experiment with the running that works for us. I think I'm guided by AmyBeth, who's going back to Galloway for a while. And I'm using walk intervals while I work on speed for a couple of months. So I guess I'm saying there's no one right way to train, just what's right for us as individuals--which will change at different times depending on our goals, our schedules, etc. P.S. My song of the moment: "Mercy" by Duffy. I'm such a bandwagon jumper.

Morgan: Hola, chica! I had no idea you were such a well-traveled, international fashionista. I bow to your glamourous self! :worship:

Cam: It's all about the dress! :rotfl2: (And it's even funnier because it's true.) I also loved your realization,
improvement only comes with challenging ourselves.
Thanks for encouraging all of us to move out of our comfort zones and to try new things or new training programs. P.S. WTG with W6D1! :thumbsup2

Kira: I just popped into your blog. Wow, you've certainly been busy; it seems like you've transformed your life quite a bit over a very short period of time. :woohoo: Thanks for sharing that with us. And congratulations on your 5 miler--it sounds like you're finding a good balance of R/W intervals for the distance.

Claire: No, I'm not doing the Goofy this year. :( DOOD and I discussed it and we decided (okay, he talked me into it, because he's the reasonable one) and decided to do Goofy every other year. Primarily because the training time makes it hard to meet all our family commitments. Apparently, DOOD thinks that's important. :confused3

About chocolate exhibits--I didn't know what quite to expect, but it was a loosely themed exhibit about chocolate production supported by commercial industry. So it was just the regular botanical exhibits with some extra information on cacao. Oh, and a bunch of plastic flamingos, painted brown (chocolate), that indicated the presence of chocolate-plant information. Quite frankly, I didn't get it. But the conservatory was nice, I like them in general, and the admission price got me a free piece of Dove chocolate and a truffle.
Not quite the same a chocolate parties, though, which I'm always on the lookout for.

I hope you enjoyed your speed play in the heat--and maybe finished it off with a tasty beverage. Or maybe ice cream. Chocolate, of course.

Bill: It's so good to know that you had a hand, or is it a fist, in making the cake.

Craig: Glad to have you back online! Your advice to Mel was very sage and, in my experience, not the slightest bit cynical about admissions. Fit is the most important thing. P.S. How's the poor hair appliance?

MB Michelle: Rude comments. Yep, part of my training motivation, too! After your successes, which we all know you'll have, just wear your bling every chance you get. And that knowing smile, the one that says, "Just because YOU can't envision doing it...."

Angie: Good to see you here, even sporadically. Remember the deal with yourself--2 weeks off. Because you're worth it. And it's for your health, the future of your running, and a rocking January marathon. I wish I could answer your question about squats. But, heck, that's why we have so many knowledgeable people around--so we can all learn from the collective WISH wisdom.

Carrie: How DARE you flaunt your ice cream, popcorn, and smores in my face. :rotfl2: It all sounds great--and I actually miss having smores. (No marshmallows for me, as they're not vegetarian. Although I THINK they do make veggie marshmallows. Or it's my wishful thinking.) Congrats on your PR. You were right, my father wasn't filming the race. It was a big enough event for their little station, but they were busy with other local events. Isn't it strange that power gardening can wipe us out more than running? Maybe it's because you weren't engaging your core while weeding?? Hah!

Krista: Ah, so the Flying Pig does compete with the Pgh marathon--or vice versa. What were they thinking? Now I need to decide what to do. DOOD and I had already talked about doing the Pig because of the RRs. Dang it all. Maybe I should do the Pig and invite your BIL to run it with me on my measly RWs? Or do you think he'd prefer the Pgh hills? Yay for your Dr.'s appt. Only 11 weeks left? Wow, it seems like time is going so fast.

Kevin: Great pics of Cotton Row! And very impressive to do the 10K with no training. Um, but you are training for the Goofy right? ;) At least that's what the siggy lines tell me. You and Howard, always trying new things!

Kristen: :rotfl2: You're so funny with the pictures. And you look mahvelous, darling, mahvelous. (Did I just date myself with that reference?)

Amykab: Aw, I'm sorry our DD is sick again. I'm sure she'll get better soon and you can squeeze in some more training. In the meantime, I hope you enjoy some good, high-quality cling time.

Liz: Good news on the healing front. Hopefully you'll be back in (running and biking) action soon, instead of this weekend's near traction status. Good luck with work tomorrow--sitting sounds painful.

Lynnda: If you're ever looking for an excuse to make a cake, I'm sure I can come up with a few.... I'd be willing to tell you my birthday, DOOD's birthday, anniversary, how we celebrate all major holidays (including Arbor Day)....:rolleyes1

I hear what you're saying about the Danskin Tri being frustrating for you because of your goals...but when I read your mini RR, I think, "Wow. You beat your biking, you exceeded training in the run...." And even if the swim was frustrating, you certainly learned you need to compete in the next class up of swimmers. Very cool. And you're committed to the event, which I think says it all for me. So yay for the experience. P.S. What are swim angels?

Allie: I think you look great on the course. Look at that form, that kick to your stride! And the bottle is just a little extra color for the total outfit. Good luck packing for DS's trip--and for the early a.m. wake-up call. Ouch.

Howard: I have no doubt that you've got PRs in your future. I've not met you, but it seems to me that you set your sights on your goals and then take the steps to meet them. And you're fast, if you can hit that sub-8 mile.
With all the training, and the encouragement of your family and friends (special shout-outs to Cam, Kristen, Kevin, and the whole Philly-thread gang), how could you go wrong? I'm hoping you get the time to keep the rest of us updated on your training, giving us a little insight on the process.

As for me: The move approacheth! I'm now surrounded by all the objects in my life, cleverly hidden in attractive paper boxes. Makes my think of George Carlin's monologue "Stuff." Except we're moving to a smaller place yet. :scared1: It looks like I'm going to need a shoehorn, some Vaseline, and much stronger quads and biceps. Just call me the Maguyver of moving.

Today I also squeezed in some XT, which I'm afraid will get spotty over the next couple of weeks. So my mantra for the first half of June is to trainer smarter and harder, not longer. So tomorrow is a short run, as I work on my speed. Then on to more work, some packing, and some kind of ice cream. Tracy, Jeff, and Maura, among others, have me feeling left out the fun.

And for those who asked: Indiana Jones and Kingdom of the Crystal Skull
For the two of you who haven't seen the new Indy Jones yet (did anyone else see those opening weekend figures? $151.1 million in North America!)...I recommend it if you are fans of the earlier films. I didn't see the films until recently--go figure how I could have missed them the first time around--and think they're fun, fluffy adventure action movies. Good for summer days above, say, 85 degrees when you're looking for an excuse to sit in cool, air-conditioned darkness with an icy drink and salty popcorn. It's grounded in the conventions of movie serials, so I find them entertaining. And I certainly appreciate Spielberg's old-school appreciation for camera and stunt work.

If I have any slight criticisms, it's that there's too much cleverness in the very extended action sequences and not enough in the plot/characterization. (The film is stronger than its script, if that makes any sense.) I know it's strange, given that the film sells itself as a loving homage to the second-rate action adventure serials, but I could have done with less stunts. I wanted more Cate Blanchett and Harrison Ford. Even more Ford and Shia LeBeof. More clever dialogue and visual winks to the fanboys and fangirls. And less crystal skull nonsense. Oh, I know that sounds like I disliked the film. I didn't, I'm just pretty critical of all film. The fourth film was good for what it was. Popcorn, summer fun. It's worth the price of a matinee (when we went) or better. I only checked my watch 3 times, which is my version of thumbs up or down, a minimal amount that is pretty darned good for me.

Thanks for the warm welcome! I've never been a regular poster, more of a lurker, so this will be a challenge to both post and work on my endurance!

It was pretty hot and humid today in NJ, I was mentally preparing myself for the warm, sticky September evening for the EEC. At least I think it will be hot, humid and sticky...

For the EEC, I want to beat a PR I got on one of the most difficult local courses I ran last year, 35:27. I am someone who races against herself, always trying to beat previous times and I think it would be wonderfully fantastic to beat my all-time best PR at EEC.

I recently invested in the Nike+ gadget and I love it! Its pretty motivating and definitely helps me keep track of my distances and times. I definitely recommend it!

My goal is to add on to the consistent miles I can currently do so I can come back here in September to post that I beat my PR! :goodvibes

All about me post ahead:

Tried again for W6D1, but it didn't work out. Hamstring is still just a touch sore, even after taking a few days off, and about halfway through the 8-minute run I felt like I might pass out and go flying off the back of the treadmill. I took that as a sign to bag it. :headache:

I'm so frustrated! I was doing just fine the first 5 weeks, and all of a sudden it feels like nothing is working for me. Ugh!

Shailey - :welcome:

Mel - one more college thing...I have a couple of regrets in life thus far. This first is my marrying my ex-H ( ). The other is not doing a semester in the Disney College Program. I took about 18 credits a semester and had a "free" semester just waiting for me to spend it at Disney with 2 friends from college. Well, my boyfriend at the time absolutely forbid me to do it. He threatened to join the army if I did (and I didn't want him to do that). So, I skipped Disney and graduated with a degree that normally takes 5 years, in 3.5 years. And guess what? We broke up just before I graduated. :headache: So, I went home a semester early, just barely 21 years old and out of college. I still really regret not doing the Disney program. :sad1:

Krista - you have a degree in communuications? At least you were smart enough to not actually go work in tv. Our professors always told us to major in something else, etc, etc. But did I listen?

Kevin - love the pics! :thumbsup2

Carol - I need to get back on WW too. One of my projects for this week is to get going in that dept. again.

Lynnda - absolutely amazing! I wish you lived closer and I could hire you to make Zack's Indiana Jones cake next month. I have no time, so i am having my friend Evelyn do it for me. Thank goodness for her! I keep telling her to do cakes as a side business, I really think you should as well. :worship:

I know I missed alot of people. I always read up on my WISH family though!
Chad started the deck, but of course, there are always some road blocks. After removing the siding under the side door, we discovered that carpenter ants like to live there. So, replacing that piece of wood was a big diversion. Projects always take at least twice as long as you think they will. And this is why normal people hire others to do this stuff! :rotfl: So, needless to say, it doesn't look like much of anything was done, even though there was alot of work already.

Hi Everyone!

It was great to see your pictures Kevin, Kristen, and Allie!! (And if you really want to see "close to death," you need to look at my pictures from the CMM.) And Kevin - its good to have you home safe.

Lynnda - Wow! My son's birthday cake was a simple choclate mayonaisse cake and I still messed up the icing AND it was a week late. You are amazing.

Michele - Those people aren't rude, they are ignorant. Show 'em.
Tx ang - Hang in there. Consistancy WILL pay off. Try stretching the hamstring very gently. I stretch my left hamstring all day just barely to the point of feeling it. It tends to bother me if I don't kept it nice and stretched.
Raangoli - Welcome! You have plenty of time to build up for a PR in September!

I have started running at the unpeasant hour of 5am. I gotta beat the heat & humidity and still be home in time to take the kids to swim team practice.

Swim Team: Other moms sit there all prim and pretty drinking their diet cokes. They give their kids (I am NOT making this up) Jello sugar for "energy. I come in sweaty and gross and my kids get a banana. I drink water from a liter bottle and refill it at the water fountain. I do not fit in with the other moms on this swim team.

For those of you that have ever watched 'The new adventures of old Christine,' I feel like I am living her life today.

Cecilia

Just a quick drop-in. This morning was a "rest" day before driving carpool & a dentist appt (though my best intention was to get up and do a pilates dvd -- the extra hour sleep was much more beneficial). Tonight is a special olympics meeting (summer games are two weeks away!! :scared1: ).

I just had to take the time to respond to Cecilia -- Hey, sweetie, I am soooo glad you don't fit in with those other swim team moms. Your kids are too. And we are all glad you fit in just perfectly here! :grouphug: :lovestruc

Debra -- Okay, the shoehorn & vaseline reference had me :lmao: I sooo WISH Howard and I were there to help you and DOOD. What a fun way to cross-train!

Lynnda -- Your TRI sounds like a huge personal success from where I'm "sitting" -- HOW in the world do you do it all, Ms. SuperMom, Cake Artiste and TRI athlete? :worship: :faint: Kudos to you, kiddo! You totally ROCK!! :woohoo:

Have a great, fit day everyone!!

Hey Team - I don't have a whole lot to report since my 1/2 marathon since this is the last week of school and everyone needs me in 20 places at one time!!!

Cecilia - I NEVER fit in with the other moms and DH always yells at me when I get upset. It's a good thing to be different!! Do the other moms drink their diet Coke with the pinky sticking out???

Lynnda - I wanted to say that your cakes ARE awesome. I have made a couple of fun cakes in the past, but nothing worth posting! I made the princess castle cake and the whole time worries that the towers would come crashing down!!!

Debra - Good luck with moving. I need a good move soon so I can clear out some of the clutter and built up junk!!!

Have a great day all. My allergies are still wild and work is crazy. I never get a break!

Kevin: Looks like a good race. Thanks for the pics!

Lynnda: Wow I've never been on Cake Central before--what a find! *drools in awe* That is so funny with that lady in Chick-Fil-A! :rotfl: See? You could so go into business.

Debra: That's how I'm doing Goofy also (every other year). If you put us together we're running it every year! Bummer on the display, though chocolate is always good, even if it's just learning about it. My speed play was rather ....hot. I did decide on a nice ice cold smoothie rather than hot soup for lunch! Oddly I'm not a big chocolate ice cream fan-- I prefer it in it's more ...potent forms. hehe

Kristi: I also skipped doing the Disney College Program though I really want(ed) to. I was planning to do it last spring (07), but then BF and I started dating. We have been friends all through college. He gave up going to grad school in Colorado (good thing considering he switched to teaching instead mid-semester!) and I finished out my undergrad in 4.5 years instead of 5. I still wish I would have gone at times but now I'm under time constraints in my grad program and can't. Boo hiss!

Cecilia: LOL on the swim team mom image. Your kids are better off with the model that you are setting and the banana anyway!

Looks like every one is getting in some good WOs :cool1:

:moped:

Today is my riding lesson day, so no run this morning. Yesterday, I did speed play, a nice swim, and a little rock walling. I only have today and Friday left in class! :)

Good morning team!

Mel - University in Canada is such a different beast all together. We aren't required to live on campus. I was really hoping to go to school down east (I was enthralled with the old stone buildings and pictures of the leaves turning colour). My dad put his foot down and I was off to university in Vancouver instead. I lived at home, drove 1.5 hours each way to get to school, had classes from 8:30 to 6:00 pretty well every day... The driving was rough, but at the end of the day I went to a TERRIFIC school, got my degree, and came out DEBT FREE. I don't regret it at all. My degree had the option of doing a co-op program. It extended the degree by a year, but I got 18 months of work experience along the way. I had my chance to leave town on those work terms and spent some time in the rocking town of Rocky Mountain House, AB and Houston, TX as well.

Claire - Sounds like you had quite the busy day yesterday. Enjoy the riding lesson!

Cecilia - I don't think it is the worst thing in the world that you don't fit in with those other swim moms!

TXAng - Ouch! I hope the hamstring feels better soon. How frustrating!

Shaily - Welcome!

Debra - Good luck on the run and packing! Your line, "I only checked my watch 3 times" cracked me up!

Lynnda - Your cake looked amazing! BTW, great job on your tri! Even though you were disappointed with your swim it sounds like your bike and run were very successful!

Liz - Continued PD for your hip!!

amykab - I hope DD is doing better!

Kevin, Kristen and Allie - Congrats on your race! Love the pictures!

AlohaJeff - How was that BBQ?

Krista - 11 more weeks! Wow!

Carrie - You PR'd!! And your third in a year. Congratulations!

Angie - So good of you to say that you'll take 2 weeks off. I hope it helps!

Michelle - People can be rude. At least you know that you can accomplish your goals, and that you are super fit!

Kira - Great job on the new blog!

Terri - Thanks for the good luck wishes. Have a great time at the world!

Steve - That's a lot of biking! Great job!

As for me, I'm hard at work this week! I took Monday kind of easy and went to hot yoga in the evening. Yesterday I went for a longer ride in to work - 7.8 mi. I ran over lunch for 3 mi, rode home, then went to boot camp. Today I ran 3.1 mi, then rode in to work for another 7.8 mi. The nice weather is back!!! I'm so happy to be back on the bike commuting in to work. It is terrific knowing that I'm starting the day and I've already got 30 min of exercise in.

Hi everyone! I'm here. Too many posts to respond to people individually though.

I planned on starting W2D1 on Sunday. Went shopping (new pair of crocs) and worked in the garden all afternoon until the water just stopped! Yes, the water stopped! First thought, we lost power and since we were outside, we couldn't tell. Went in, and nope, house has power. I checked the circuit breaker and the breaker for the well was tripped! Ugh. We had to renew our home warrenty (thankfully we were still in a grace period) and then waited hours for them to find a well person on Sunday of Memorial Day weekend. After waiting, they gave us outside authorization to find our own person and we got them to agree to come out Monday morning.

All of this happened after spreading black mulch (nice stained legs) and pulling a seeping hose through the garden resulting in nice muddy legs. As I noticed all of the mud on my legs, my first thought was, as soon as I get in the house I'm hopping in the shower. Well, thankfully DBF's DM lives nearby so we went to her place an showered and filled up all of out 5 gal jugs (we bottle our own spring water and were just about to run out of that too).

Monday I came into work in case I needed to be home on Tuesday for the well guys. Turns out we needed to replace the well pump motor. We also replaced the pipe (looking at the old pipe, we're not sure it was a necessary investment). $2500 later, we have water. On Monday night, the water was not coming out clear, but it did clear up by last night.

Sorry for everyone who doesn't want rain, but I really, really want just enough rain to keep the garden and the orchard hydrated and not to have to see brown water again. Oh, and we leave for Disney on Saturday morning!

Well, after all of that, I didn't start W2D1 until this morning. It was tough. the first jogging circuit was okay, but it got harder towards the end. I did increase my speed towards the end, but that was so that I could have a longer stride. I don't know if that was the right thing to do, but I felt better while doing it! Pilates tomorrow and probably walking too so that I can keep breaking in the new crocs.

Oh yeah, the crocs store at the Philly outlets was virtually out of size 8s. I could have purchase fushcia, canvas or the PGA navy with gray. While the PGA ones were cheaper and I could flip the strap over to hide the logo, I went to GWU and I am a UConn fan. The colors were distinctly Georgetown so there was no way I was getting them. I already have the pink Mickey crocs, so the fushcia was out, so I ended up with the canvas ones. Great for getting dirty in the yard!

AlohaJeff - How was that BBQ?

Leanna,

My running Guru Les and I did a 5 miler at a 9:15 pace, in the high heat and humidity. UGGGH. Then the BBQ clubbers met up at the parking lot to start our cook out.

The BBQ was good except for the fact four people (including me) RSVP'd they were coming, and nine showed up. The five extras are regulars in our running group. I email the entire group a week before, reminding everyone about the BBQ, and ask everyone to reply what they'll be bringing. Yet these "friends" still came empty handed. Not cool in my book.

What really makes me shake my head :furious: is I hear them say, "I have to leave", "I'm not staying", or "I didn't bring anything again." Yet they stayed and ate. This was not the first time this has happened.

For three months (March, April, and May) they've known about the BBQ being the last Thursday of each month (except we moved it this month to Tuesday).

I guess the best thing would be to wait for them all to leave, before we break out the coolers, and the grill to start cooking. Either that, or park our cars in a different location instead of our usual spot.

Enough of my venting...

We had homemade chili, hot dogs, Thai watermelon, chips, sweet corn, and some great hours' devers. We had to stretch the food we had.

Here is a question for the life experienced WISH team members.

Our 10th anniversary is coming up soon and I was tasked with coming up with something to celebrate it since Lynnda got the babysitter for the night. After thinking (probably too long for some interested parties) I finally made the choice. Because of little ones, no trips are involved. Now basically the two choices were either something really nice or something sentimental. Which one would you choose and why. I will post what I picked later on.
