Don't force me to commit to a hotel when I haven't even registered for the marathon yet!! :rotfl2: Are you planning on going Goofy?!!
''

:rotfl2: I didn't realize you hadn't registered yet! I am really torn if I am even going this year. :confused3 I am getting the bug with all this talk about meeting places and tshirt designs. DH says he is definitely not going back this year, so if I go, it will be solo and only the marathon. I am registered for the Chicago Marathon on Oct. 22nd, so we will see. I guess I will need to decide this summer. I hope people keep us up to speed on how quickly the registrations are filling up.

Judy, awesome job on the treadmill with your wogging! :cheer2: 50 minutes, that is great! You will be so ready when you start the program.

Lily, you are going to Cancun?? I must have missed that. Lucky girl! Have a fabulous time. Are you actually going to be staying in Cancun or are you heading down to the Mayan Riviera?

Judy-- I looked and it seems that last year I got my first email about the race in June. The only email I didn't get were the one's about the Minnie, since I'm a ::MickeyMo and not so much a ::MinnieMo so as long as there is nothing vital in it, no need to send it along. Thanks for the offer though, it's much apprecaited. :) (Though I will admit to doublechecknig to make sure I was registered online....)

As for the Magic trip, that's actually not until 12/07, so well, well after next year's race. More likely I will spend the days leading up to the marathon doing my training runs through snow drifts here in Michigan (again....)

Kevin

Oops! Duh! Yes, December 2007...soooo, right before the 2008 Marathon! :teeth:

There wasn't much in the email, just a lot of links and a reminder to sign up for the Goofy if you haven't already since they put a cap on it.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Jen party: :bday: :cake:
I had to give this an international note ;)

Colleen,
Lily is going to Costa Maya and Cozumel - with Eric (aka Viking :cool1: ) and 150 more DISers on Cruisetoberfest IV

I simulated the 3.5mile JPMCCC on the treadmill today and did it in 27 minutes flat, which is slightly under 8min/mile. I did it at an incline of 1.5% for the first 15 minutes and then at 1.0%. With half a mile to go I lowered the incline to 0.0% and sped up to 14km/h (slightly under 7min/mile), the last quartermile I did at 16.8km/h (5:45min/mile). My pulse was at 192 crossing the 'finish line', but went down to 110 during a 5minute cooldown at walking speeds, starting at 7,2km/h(4,5mph) and going down in steps every minute to a final speed of 4km/h(2.5mph).
I'll do the same next week, but add some speed. Today I had to work on the weights for an hour after the run and so didn't go to the limit.
The track of the JPMCCC in Frankfurt has an incline for the the first 2K, then a downhill portion, and the last 2K ar fairly flat. So my simulated incline is worse than reality, but IMHO it's preferrable to do it that way.

Cool! I was just in Costa Maya a couple of weeks ago on a cruise. Is she taking an excursion? We did the Chacchoben Ruins tour and it was GREAT!

ETA: Geez, I always screw up the quotes. :rolleyes2

Inconceivable!!!! :goodvibes

You keep saying that word. I do not think it means what you think it means ;)

Judy...don't worry about talking too much. My self-imposed tag occurred when I worked from home last year and was on the boards hourly :teeth:

Jodi-- your 5K time is awsome! I remember when you were'nt sure if you could be a runner! You are a runner, girl!

Thanks Sunny - That's a great compliment! I give you part credit really --- after reading your journal, I started to run.....I really don't think I would have taken it on otherwise :goodvibes

Hey - I have a question for you, weren't you the person on the board that brought up fundraising? For our run in January? I can't remember totally if it was you but I would love to continue to raise for Breast Cancer research, is there a way to set up a website for that? So, that the money would go directly to whichever research center?

If you aren't the one that started to look into this I apologize --- Just trying to remember who brought it up.

Thanks,

Jodi

Greetings everyone,

Thanks for the pixiedust: for the knee. It is better, but not 100%. Part of me thinks it is new shoes. I changed models of shoes because my usual shoe store is constantly out of stock in my size. My first few runs in the new shoes were fine, and so was my marathon. I have about 120-150 miles on these shoes...but I think I will go back to my original model. Time to go to a different shoe store! I am still taking it easy to not injure my knee. If it is still sore after my upcoming 7 miler this weekend I will take the next 2 weeks off from running.

It should be pretty easy to become distracted from running for the next 2 weeks...I am on the MAGIC for a double-scoop of Castaway Cay on May 27!! That one will also stop in Costa Maya and Cozumel. party: Can't Wait!!! Knowing me tho, I will wind up running every day to work off all of the extra food.

GOOFY UPDATE: According to the Disney Website the GOOFY is over 65% full. If you are going GOOFY, sign up now!!!

Speaking of which, my wife is now officially signed up for the Goofy also :yay: :cheer2: . So that makes my wife, my brother, and myself going Goofy! I will start working on that trip after we get back from the Cruise.

You know you are obsessed when you start planning your next trip before your current trip even starts.

Happy training all...PD for all who are sick or injured.

Paul

I ran tonight...finally! And hated every bit of it. But I freaking did it. Yeah! :cool1: Just thought I would share...

(Hopefully, running attitude will improve soon!)

Love to all of you!!

Paul,
that's exactly the same itinerary as ours, which will leave 10/14/06. I assume you are with the Blubbermouths then.
Our group is looking forward to your trip report.

Judy,
we're doing that ruin-tour combined with a trip into the jungle, to a lagoon for some snorkeling, and lunch at a hotel. We booked it independently from DCL and already have one truck exclusively for us and just started to fill a second - So no strangers on that tour, just friends :thumbsup2

Morning Everyone,

Hey - just a quick question for now.....Those of you going to Marathon weekend, have you booked your airline tickets? Normally DH takes care of that portion of travel and needless to say I'm clueless with that. Will tickets go down more :confused3 or should I book anytime now?

Can you tell I'm the one that arranges the rest of the trip at Disney? :teeth:

Good Morning Everyone: :surfweb:

Wow, I had a horrible run yesterday, struggled through 2.4 miles in 25 min. My mood has been really low lately, my legs are sore, and it really feels like every step is work. After my 10k on Sunday, I think I am going to take a couple weeks off of running, do some cross training, elliptical, water running or something to get my legs better. Eventually I'll get some new shoes when the money tree grows.

Jodi - yup, it was Sunny who started the thread on fundraising. She is really committed to the National Kidney Foundation. Here's the thread.

Good morning all!!

Yesterday I managed to get through my workout--- lifting here at the gym and then 35 minute run (3/2 intervals) and managed 9:30-something per mile pace and 3.6-something miles. The weather finally turned out beautiful yesterday but I felt really sluggish when I got out there. I'm not sure if it's the new workout program or trying to eat right again or being out of practice or what. Probably a combination of all three. Once I got going, it didn't turn out too bad. Today is another brutal crosstraining day. :woohoo:

Dave-- I went through a couple of periods during last year's training where I LOATHED running. Disliked my shoes, disliked being outside, disliked everything about it. I longed for the pool, lifting weights...anything but running. It's just something you have to get through.... this too shall pass.

That said, since you are a new runner and with those symptoms you describe, I wonder if perhaps you are overtrained a bit. A "down" mood, sluggishness, and soreness are all pretty classic symptoms. It may be worth your while to take a week off or maybe take your training down a couple of notches for a couple weeks and add in more crosstraining. Just do what feels right.

Jodi-- I have not booked my airline tickets yet and to be honest, I'm looking to book just as soon as I see an airfare that I'm willing to pay for the times I want. Right now things are a little too rich for my blood. I don't see airfare coming down a lot for me. That said, this is my reality of living in a city with a relatively small airport where airfare will naturally be more expensive. I don't remember where you are from, but if you have larger airports that you fly out of, then you are better positioned to look for a deal. (Oh how i miss living in DC-- three major airports and tons of cheap fares. Sigh..... )

I should start my day!
Happy training all!!

Thanks Dave,

Great to see you back!

I agree with you about taking days off - I've taken a few off this week because of the run on Saturday.....lets just say it really kicked my booty :teeth: It was all hill, I wasn't familiar with the area so everytime we went down a hill I thought I was done with the hills but then we would start up another. Great workout but a little sore.

Anyhow, crosstraining sounds great!

Thanks again for the link :goodvibes

Thanks Kevin,

I think you and I are in the same boat......I live in CT, with Logan in Boston and JFK and LaGuardia in NY ---Well, lets just say CT's fares will not go down that much.

The airfare for myself is okay but I'm also planning the surprise trip for DH and his are still a bit higher than I'd like to pay for. :goodvibes

jodi - A lot of the cheaper flights don't come out until 6 months out. I got mine beginnin gof June lat year.

solo - If you're willing to go to Lansing, Allegiant has some of teh best prices. allegiantair.com

Paul - Woo hoo for going Goofy! Yes, blame the shoes first is what I've always been told when something is different.

Dena - Getting out there is the first step. You'll get back into feeling good again soon!

DAve - Your rest time sound like a plan. SOUnds like you're getting worn out!

I scammed out of my run last night. Look who's talking about rest! Either the event of the last 6 weeks have taken their toll and I'm getting sick or it's just allergies, sore legs from lack of running and being tired. I'll try a short run tonight adn a 6-miler Thursday. Got to get those new shoes broken in!

Cool :thumbsup2 Then I will wait on the tickets -- I've been trying to keep my eyes open for the flights, and although they have gotten a little cheaper they still aren't all that great :goodvibes

Dave, I have to say that I am where you are right now. I feel like I go through a roller-coaster with my running and it does get frustrating. I know you are also dealing with personal matters and probably had a very difficult weekend :grouphug: , keep in mind that the emotional strain can be the same as having weights attached to your back....really making anything physical feel that much more difficult. Don't discount that factor! But as for the run....you and I must have been in the same reality yesterday. I set out to run 4 miles and struggled through 2 in 21 minutes. I felt like I was running with cement sneakers...and my legs just killed. I was VERY discouraged and just really disappointed. Here's pixie dust for you that the 10K is wonderful and renews your love of running. Until then, hang in there and know that I can relate 100%! :goodvibes

Ok, on Monday I managed to walk over 4 miles, took about an hour then yesterday I took a killer class at the recreation center. It was an hour class that works your entire body...boy am I sore today  I plan to walk another 4 miles later this afternoon.

I still haven't heard from TNT about registration, I hope they don't forget me.

Hi, everyone! Well, I dragged myself to the gym last night after my weight watchers meeting. It was so hard to motivate myself, but you all did the job for me and I am so inspired by your discipline. I only did 20 minutes on the elliptical and 20 minutes on the bike, and by then it was about 8:45 and I seriously needed dinner. 2 nights in a row gives me hope that I might be able to get back into the swing of things before I have to get into the training plan for the DL 1/2 in a couple weeks. Unfortunately, the next couple days will provide no opportunities to get to the gym, since DD17's final HS wind ensemble concert is tonight, and tomorrow night I have a business dinner. Hmmmm. . . maybe Judy can inspire me to get on the treadmill tomorrow morning and virtually train with her! :cool1:

I have my first ever 5 miler on 5/27 and am very nervous because it is a very prestigious, crowded, competitive race and Howard and our friend Jim are running it, while I am walking it. This race fills up almost instantly and it is so hard to get into if you haven't run it before, so I registered in the hopes of continuing to do it every year and hopefully, some day, running it. BUT -- I am very self conscious about Howard and Jim having to wait probably 1/2 an hour afterwards for me. Jim is NOT a patient person. Hopefully, he will go sit on the boardwalk and relax until I am done.

Paul -- Glad to hear your knee is feeling a bit better. I agree that you should re-think the shoes.

Dave -- I know you have your hands full with a sick princess and DW travelling and that is probably not improving your disposition toward running, but I hope a brief respite after your 10K will provide a renewed passion for running for you. :goodvibes:

Jodi -- Is your DH flying from a different airport than you? Do you need help figuring out which ones might be cheaper alternatives for him? Personally, I am still desperate for SWA to release their dates for September (they are only taking reservations through 9/12 right now), because I HAVE to figure out airfare to the Disneyland 1/2!

monte -- awesome pace on the four miles! :thumbsup2

Carrie -- I hope you feel better. I am having a really rough time with sinus/allergies this year, too. Sending pixiedust: your way, kiddo!

AmyBeth-- I am impressed you did that great pace when you weren't feeling like running. I guess sometimes it really is good to just get it done, right?

Kevin -- I can't believe you did lifting, then running! Weren't you wiped out? Are you completely done school for now? When do classes start again?

Dena -- you are definitely one of the amazing WISH team members who inspires me to get out there and do it even when I don't want to. I love that "freaking did it" line -- that is how I felt last night driving away from the gym ''That sucked, but at least I freaking did it!" Oops! Think that will get bleeped out by the mods?

Well, the bad news is that I have come to the conclusion that I can't do Chicago in August. Financial considerations aside, there is so much going on with DD moving into college the next weekend and having to take time off work the week after that to go to performance weekend at DS's performing arts camp. I did look at airfares and the cheapest I could come up with is a little over $500 for Howard and me, and that is just too much for a long weekend in the middle of everything else going on. I wish the temptation of being with my WISH friends and earning that penguin medal wasn't so HUGE! So, although I have yet to get to the Chicago thread to let my dear friends Lily and Liz and Pat and everyone else know, I think I am going to stop spending so much energy trying to figure out how to get there and worrying about all the other things that have to be a priority (including planning and paying for a week in the Anaheim area). The reality is that having done the WDW 1/2 and the Minnie and having the DL 1/2 and the WDW Full to look forward to, all in the space of a year, is pretty darn good. And I know I am spoiled. So, I am sad, but resigned. And truly grateful for all the opportunities I DO have.
