Wk of July 8--WISH Walking/Running Club

I'm back!! Went to the Dr. tonight and I've been cleared to start working out again! :cool1: :cool1:

I'm basically starting from scratch. He said I have to take it S-L-O-W, since it's possible the achilles could rupture again.

I told him fine, I'll start at 1 mile and he said NO! Start at 1/2 mile walking only. After I work up to 3-5 miles walking, then I can start jogging (without any PI gear). He also said he'd rather I do more xt early to not put as much stress on the ankles.

So I rode my spinner for 30 minutes tonight  It felt so good to work up a sweat actually DOING something. I'll admit the surgically repaired ankle was little sore afterwards, but in a good way. I am so happy (and I think the people I work with will be happy, too. Not working out can reall make me grumpy!)

Elizabeth and Mandy - Welcome!

Judy - Glad the surgery went well. Hang in there!

Krista - Congrats on your TM Nirvana!

Sunny - Glad to see you posting again!

Helen - WooHoo! It's great that you're coming back! (gotta get that super secret 15th anniversary medal!)

Has anyone heard from Lynne about when the hats/visors will be arriving! I've been on and off the boards and don't know if I may have missed that info.

Terri
Feeling on :cloud9: now that I can train again!

Terri & Helen - Welcome back!

Judy - you sound like me when I cross stitch too much. My hand goes numb! Definately some upper body xt! ;)

Heather - feel better!

Christa - I dream of having a 'bad' workout like that! :rotfl2:

Leana - post natal? Are you kidding me? You look fabulous!

Nothing training-wise to report here. Let's just say I am having an uncomfortable side-effect from the antibiotics. I barely can get myself to come to work, nevermind go walking/jogging/running. And believe it or not, my legs are still realyl sore from that 5k this past weekend. Just goes to show how much I let my training go. :sad1:

As soon as I feel better (hopefully by Friday), I will get back out there! :cool1:

OK, why did I think this was a good idea? It took me 20 minutes to get downstairs and on the couch this morning. How many Advils can a person take before they OD? :sad2:

WWDave - OK now you KNOW you can NOT do that to me. Say it. :rolleyes1

Helen - I'm so excited! You mean I get to meet you??? :yay:  :cheer2:

Terri - YAY for being back on track. :thumbsup2 I'm extremely jealous.

Terri - Yay!!!!!!!!! :cool1: :cool1: :cool1: That means we'll see you here more often, right?????

Judy - :grouphug: :grouphug: :wizard: :wizard:

Heather - :wizard: :wizard: (Not hugging you, don't want to catch it. :p )

Leana - :scared1: OMG that is horrible!!!! I can't eveen imagine why she said that!!!!! You DO NOT look like you're post natal. Shall I come smack her???!!!!

Kristi - :wizard: Hope things get better soon! :grouphug:

Craig - :wizard: You'll get there soon. Just think how great you'll feel when you get back down to normal altitude!

Lily - Thanks for all you do for us!!! :grouphug:

Becky - Way to go on your RUN!!!!!!!

Dana - Glad you stopped early. That heat index was insane!

Krista - Belated congrats on TMN (TM Nirvana)!!!!!:cool1: :cool1:

I know, I'm still missing many. Please forgive me.

I was forced to relive my TM nightmare again yesterday. I don't even thing about it now. Had a doc's apptment, though. SHe about had heart failure when she saw "your poor knees!" Luckily, she's got a sense of humor and didn't think Scott pushed me down the stairs or anything. Yes, I spread laughter around the world with my tales. :upsidedow

Good morning everyone!!! I had another good run last night, it wasn't as great as the TMN (thanks Carrie!) Monday night, but it was close. I ran outside about 8:30, it was cooler but humid as I was running between 2 rain showers. I finished 3 miles in 32:55, I think that puts me around a 10:50 pace, which is about what I'm shooting for on shorter runs. Hines was happy because he got to go with me, but he was worn out after the run. He laid on the kitchen floor, all sprawled out for about 25 minutes before he started walking around again. Tonight I have xt, so biking and lifting at the gym.

Helen--YAY!!!! I'm so glad you are coming in January! Can't wait to see you again. :yay: And congrats on everything getting healthy again.

Heather--:wizard: :wizard: I hope are you feeling better soon! I was sick all of last week and dealing with a nagging cough this week, so I feel your pain!

Carrie--That happened to me too! Do you remember last September (hey, that rhymes!) when I fell while I was running, busted both of my knees and sprained my ankle? Well, I went to the doctor in December and we were talking, I was telling him how I was getting ready to run my first marathon, etc. He starts to examine me, sees my knees that are scarred pretty badly and made some type of comment about me running with my feet or my knees. I was :flower3: !

Kristi--I hope you are feeling better soon! :wizard:

Craig--Just think of how much stronger you will be when you get back to sea level!

Terri--Fantastic news!! :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

Leana-- I think you look great!!! Some people are just clueless!! I just read your race report, it sounds like a fun race! Your dog is too cute!!!

Judy--:wizard: :wizard: :wizard:

Becky--Congrats on your 3.5 mile run! :woohoo:

I know I missed people, and I'm sorry, but I shouldn't be on here in the first place!

Hey everyone. Sorry I disappeared for a bit. Things are crazy at work. Plus I am actively looking for a new receptionist/assistant. The one we hired a couple months ago is not working out at all. She is still here, but is causing me more work. It's a bad situation!

Last night I went for a run. I only got in 2.6 miles. It was so windy that at one point Sadie (dog) turned around and pulled me in the opposite direction because there was no way she was running into the wind. So we criss crossed some streets and tried to stay out of the head on wind. Then I gave up and went home to do some balance ball. My legs felt great during the run, which made me very happy!

Carrie - So Sorry for your tramatic recollection. :grouphug:

Krista - Every once in awhile I get TMN at the gym. Only if I am feeling great and there is a good show on one of the TV's. I get all self absorbed and the run is good!

Judy - I hope you are back on your foot soon. I take 3 ibu's at a time for my back pain.

Terri - Woot Woot on the Foot (HEY KRISTA, that rhymes!)

Helen - Welcome back to training. Can't wait to meet you in January.

SWDave - Where are you??? Did you go on vacation, I thought I remember reading something about that.

OK, gotta get working. Can't wait!!!!!!

Well I guess that skipping my workout yesterday means I've got lots of catching up to do here. You people are busy, busy, busy! Today I got out around 8:00 (before the heat kicked in too much) and did 30 minutes followed by some sprints. It felt much better than Monday's run!

Heather - LOL getting passed by tiny dogs! Of course, I have a tiny dog and I KNOW she could outrun me.
Stephanie - What a bummer being off on your schedule and finding you have to do a 12 miler instead of 7. We will be cheering you on!
Cindy and Carrie - Good job running while on vacation! Those workouts count double.
Dave, Jackie, Bill, Howard, Dana - I'm impressed you're all getting out there in the heat. I agree, Dave, that I'm rooting for a nice cold marathon weekend right now but will probably be complaining about it if it is!
Meghan, Lily, Judy, Kristi - Here's some PD to send you on the road to recovery quickly!
MainStMandy and BelleMA87 - Welcome and congrats on starting your programs! You've found a great team to train with.
Kim - I have to say you freaked me out a bit with your "6 months from right now". How will I possibly be ready?!?
Krista - I have never experienced TMN but have gotten there on outdoor runs. Did this TMN happen in the movie room?
Christa - Your wo's look great to me. I don't think I'd have the mental strength to run on a little indoor track. I'd go nuts!
Leana - Let me just say you're quite an inspiration to me. Our own little energizer bunny always going and going and going...
Stacey - If you've got a biker going slowly with a runner I'd go on the side of the street facing traffic.
Sunny - I can so relate to 4.5 miles feeling like 10! (But just think, on a good run 10 can feel like 4.5!)
TnTsParty - Definitely don't hold on! Don't worry about the pace; it will come naturally. Maybe try to run for a minute or so at a faster pace to get used to it.
Laurie - Hope you had success at hockey last night!
Helen - Great news! Serious training time now!
Becky - Congrats on your longest run!
Craig - I can't even imagine the added challenge of running at high altitudes!
Terri - Great news! Yay!
Jen - Welcome back!

Hope I didn't miss anyone.

Happy training, all! :)
Renee

Ok My Queen, if I must. Tiger Lily forgive me.:flower3:

You said your butt was getting numb from sitting on the couch. That was the first time I ever heard a woman admit to being a numb a$$.;)

Ok slinking off now to hide.:guilty:

Dave:hippie:

Cindy and Carrie - Good job running while on vacation! Those workouts count double.
Yay! That means I was allowed to skip my first run og the week. The humidity has just knowcked me on my hiney the last couple days. SAd when I can't even make it ot the pool. :(

WWDave - :lmao:

Krista - I have never experienced TMN but have gotten there on outdoor runs. Did this TMN happen in the movie room?

No, on my TM at home, I get on there with my iPod and sing my heart out. Good thing the TM is in the basement and we have pretty good insulation!!! :rockband:

WW Dave--:lmao: :lmao: You are bad!!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

Jen--You are a much nicer fur baby momma than me. I drag Hines behind me, I figure I don't want to have to suffer alone!!!!

This morning was rainy until I got ready to walk then the rain stopped. It left the humidity behind. The temp was a reasonable mid 70s but you could see the humidity in the air. Am I the only one who thinks it's harder to breath in high humidity? Maybe because the air is half water?

I did my regular 4 mile hill route and kept it a comfortable pace. Didn't feel like pushing the pace at all. Total time was 52:55 about a min 10 sec of my best time for the route.

I tend to let my mind wander more when the pace is slower. I was thinking how much happier most people would be if they had goals. To many people are just going through the motions, go to work, come home, sleep, go to work. Rest on the weekend so you can start over. Nothing in the future to look forward to except to retire so you can rest and grow old.

We have a more exciting and more satisfying life, we have goals and plans and challanges to face. The thought of a long distance event like a marathon would scare most people if they were told they had to do it. We look at it as an adventure.pirate:

Be someone you want to be, don't spend your life watching other people live.

I know "I ain't right".

Have a great day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Leana - that is awful! I think you look great. I will NEVER ask someone if they are pregnant (or post) because I am so afraid of saying it to someone who isn't. Some people :sad2:

Krista - Congrats on your run! Poor Hines :rotfl: He reminds me of my DH, trying to keep up with me and then pooping out on the couch for the rest of the day when we get back!

Carrie - I must've missed it, did you fall on the TM? I am always so afraid of that!

Jen - Good luck finding a new asst. Hope the weather gets better for you.

Kristi - feel better soon

Craig - Wow! On the walker  That is so fast!

Well today we got out and did 7 miles. Not the pace I was shooting for, but still pretty good. DH told me last night he did not want to go as fast as we have been, so I had to slow it down for him :rotfl2: Who am I kidding? I was tired and glad to go a little slower. We still managed to average about 12:30 pace. I did alot of walking and it was a good chance to work on my walking speed. Happy training!

Becky

Krista - At one point I did tell Sadie to just suck it up. After all she is a golden and made to run (and swim). Sometimes she is such a princess... drives me nuts!!!

Carrie - I must've missed it, did you fall on the TM? I am always so afraid of that!

If only I had just fallen......Oh no. I was playing with my mp3 adn went flying off teh back. Not so bad, you say? Well, in an effort to overcome my embarrassment and look like nothing happened, I tried to hop back on. Not a good idea. :scared:

Of course I was at the gym. At honme, dh knows I'm a clutz. I never would have tried to save face. ;) My knees are fine. Just scars now.

WW Dave

You have that right. I never want to be one of those people who sits on their fanny and watches life go by. Life is a participatory sport, it isn't designed for spectators.

Quoting directly from 2 major inspirations for my lifestyle:

Rosalind Russell as Auntie Mame: "Live, live, live. Life's a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death."

Jimmy Buffett's Growing Older But Not Up: "It's 24 hours maybe 60 good years, it's really not that long a stay."

I think I go the other way form you when training. When I let my mind wander the pace slows. When I really want to hold a pace I need to concentrate. That's why I have such a love affair with running on the track. When I want to hold some pace for some distance I usually do it on the track, as I always know precisely how fast I'm going. Plus being out there helps my focus and concentration. On pretty trails and roads my pace varies as I go in and out of concentration. I'm too easily distracted.

Craig

Wow, I am so sorry I have missed so much, I will never catch up.

Minor meltdown in the hockeychic house last night and no chance to catch up till just now. I will try and get back to read but uuuggghhh what a day.

I missed my 5K last night and I am really bummed about it, a 4K is on for tonight but I will do at least 5K, maybe try for 7 our humidity has broken here so I might just be able to get it in after work.

Sorry to all I missed, hope you are all having a great day.

JUDY!!! Sorry I ment to ask you yesterday how everything went. Hope all is well:hug:

Kim
