Wk of July 29--WISH Walking/Running Club

OK, so I wrote a big post up, and I have no idea what happened to it....but here we go again....

Last night was boot camp and we had been warned that there would be lots of running involved... I'm not sure if it is because I'm over compulsive or nerdy but I brought the Garmin with me so I could see how much bonus mileage I would get in thanks to boot camp. We warmed up by running down a big hill, then back up to the start, then we got the low down on the circuit we would be performing. Each stop on the circuit would last 1.5 minutes. It consisted of:
  • Jumping jacks
  • Hoping on one foot from one pylon to another
  • Long jumps on two feet from one pylon to another
  • A running drill, where you did a push up at the first pylon, ran to the second pylon, did another push up, run back and push up, and repeat.
  • Ab and oblique work sitting on the ground and leaning back, rotating from side to side with a medicine ball, and feet raised in the air if possible.
  • Grade 7 dance with resistance tubing to work those outer thighs. (Step on the tubing with both feet, cross the tubing in front of your legs, and hold the end of the tubing with your arms down at your sides. Step side to side as far as possible. Belt out songs that were played at your grade 7 dances.)
  • Push ups for a minute and a half.
  • Run up and down a hill as many times as possible in the minute and a half.
After running through the circuit once we moved down the field a ways to run pyramids in 10-20-30-40 second intervals. This one was tough because we were running up some serious hills if we ran hard enough. After the pyramids we went through the circuit one more time. I logged 1.25 mi for the day.

After class the instructor, Sheena, asked if I wanted to join her group that is training for the Nike Women's Marathon for their long run on Saturday. Some of them are running the full so they are running up to 15 mi. I'll join and just get my 10 miles done. I have to tell you, I'm nervous about this. I have never run in a group before, and all my running is done solo. I have run with one or two other people before, but I can count on one hand the number of times that has happened. Don't get me wrong, I'd love to find a group of like minded individuals to run with, but the thought of running in a group spells intimidation to me. Running solo you have no one to worry about but yourself, and the run is as good as you, or your body, makes it. What if they run faster than me? What if I can't keep up? I need to take a page out of Calcio's book and just go for it because I'm sure I'll love it. And maybe if they are a bit faster than me, that will help to make me a bit faster too....

Just a quick hi from the pharmacy conference at Coronado Springs. I don't have any cool pics or stories (yet ;) ) like SWDave had at his conference. I'm planning to go for my last LR before CDC while we're here. Anyone run at Coronado before?

Welcome Moonie!!!

Kevin...welcome back! Husband and wife repairs?? Did you get married??

Hi Guys.

I did get in my walk on Wednesday, and cross training on Thursday. I'll rest today and do a long run/walk tomorrow morning.

The puppy slept all night :woohoo:

In answer to those who asked -- "yes, I do have resort rooms for the marathon" I am just hoping to add a dining plan as food is a major issue for us when we go to WDW. Before our first trip someone suggested fanny packs with peanut butter crackers in them. Not our style. I may serve my family beans and cornbread for weeks to save money for the trip but at WDW we EAT!

Ooooh, I really don't like just popping on to post my results, but Anne said a drive-by post was better than no post. I've been really busy here at work, and haven't had time to read what everyone's up to.

I ended up doing 5 miles this morning in 43:58 min/8:44 mpm. I was on the road at 6:30a before it got hot out, and I had a really good run. The sunrise this morning was spectacular. This bright red large round angry disc of a sun.

Anyhow, I was really happy with my splits and treated this as a tempo run.
mile 1: 9:24 min (warmup)
mile 2: 8:47 min
mile 3: 8:26 min
mile 4: 8:32 min
mile 5: 8:36 min.

Oh, one thing, Kristi- You guys have taught me well, and I have learned I better post any news I get of deals or sales like the Target 75% off deal. OK, gotta run...

Wow, people up and doing their thing early today! I have been up but haven't run yet! I'll get there though....

PaDisneyfan: HaaaHaaa.....I didn't make it to pump either.....now I don't feel so bad. So, the knee still hurts? That is worrisome.....take care of it, and watch the incline on the TM. A LW on the TM sounds like a plan......a boring plan, but a healthier way to do it!!! Keep cool! I might do a LR on Sunday with my sister's group in the evening.....still thinking about it. They are going for 2 1/2 hours.

Kevin: I love the 'come to Jesus run' reference......thats a perfect title! Been there and have done that!!! Nice to meet you by the way!

Hockeychik: I am hoping that my Toranto trip is still on board....training isn't going so well, and I was so looking forward to the trip! We'll have to see.

Keep cool everybody!

Beth

Thanks, Dave! I read your other 1st-Marathoners post and am definitely considering trying the walk, since my run isn't all that fast anyway. My only worry is those sweepers...do the walkers (the less-advanced ones, that is...I know a lot of you can walk faster than runners run!) have any trouble staying ahead of the slow-poke-patrol? And do they give you advance warning if you're going to be swept, or do they just swoop in from the night and carry you off to the castle...

~moon

Leana, wow. That does sound like boot camp! :scared1:

I know what you're talking about running solo. It is my time and I don't have to worry about what anyone else is doing.

I think you should give it a try, though. I'm sure you'll do fine and I bet you'll end up having fun. :wizard:

moonie--Welcome!

SWDave--Thanks for the head's up on the Target sale--I cleaned up!:cool1: I ended up with a Dora Fairytale castle, a furniture set for it, an Around the World Dora, a Barbie, a Diego bath playset, and a Mickey Mouse with piano, for, are you ready, $27!!!!!:cool1: :cool1: You "da bomb" for reminding me of the sale! Oh, and I guess to stay sort of on topic--great 5 miles!

Leana--I would love for someone to run with--go for it this weekend! You might find you really like the company--those longer distances, for me, get really lonesome

Kevin--great to "see" you again--good luck with the "come to Jesus" LR this weekend

Kim--thanks for reminding me how little time is left before my next marathon--We are running one the 29th of Sept--so your 58 day update was like a slap in the face!

Okay, training to update--3 mile tempo run--just didn't feel like the 4X800s today. Started at 7.0, increased to 7.2--finished in 25:something. Felt good--we'll see how I feel doing 15 in the sauna this weekend. Stay cool all, and hydrate well!

Oh, and here's a little pic to share with ya'll--DD and I were a little bored this afternoon--my poor doggie!

Before our last trip my MIL suggested that we stay with DH's aunt who lives about an hour away. I told her I'd rather not go if I didn't stay on site! I'm with you - food is a major part of the trip, and resort rooms aren't terribly far behind.

Kevin - Glad you found your way back!

Leana - I wasn't at all sure about running with a group, but it is really the best part of my week now!

Renee - I'm with you - I wish I could shop in the toy section, but somehow I don't think DD16 would appreciate an Easy Bake oven! I'm making a vow to stay OUT of the stores tomorrow - the chaos isn't worth the savings.

Judy
- Hooray for two shoes!

Angie - Do we need to add you to our AAA membership? (Don't tell WWDave - the main reason we have ours is for the discount at LensCrafters!)

Moon - :welcome:

Ran 3 miles last night. I don't have much faith in the Garmin right now. I KNOW I ran faster than I did Monday night, but it clocked me at a 12:03 avg (vs 11:32 Mon night). I did a semi-speed workout during the 2nd and 3rd miles, where the last :30 of each run interval I increased my speed, and both miles were slower than the first. Monday's run was on open roads, but last night was on the greenway with a lot of trees.

I hate to sound like a spoiled child, but I want the 205 instead of the 201 I currently have! Unfortunately, the 201 is only a year old, so I feel really bad even considering spending money on another one when I have an almost perfectly good one! (Even worse, DH has a 301, and we bought DD a 101 for her birthday and she's never even used it - said it's too big and bulky.)

Jackie

Here's another drive by post from me too. Bad news.... I missed my run on Thursday and couldn't make it up today thanks to the rain! Good news.... I picked up the treadmill this afternoon and will no longer have that excuse anymore!! So tomorrow morning I wake up and run my 6 like planned!!

even more hopefully good news..... You TOT racers may have some company that weekend!! It looks like since I am cancelling my entire September trip that DH has agreed to come down for the TOT race!! It isn't 100% yet, but pretty close!! I'll let you know as soon as I know for sure.

Ok.... gotta run and get dinner ready!! I'll post more tomorrow!!

Dana

Hi WISH Team!

Welcome Moon! Glad you will be part of WISH Team. You will love it here. If you find that your questions are not answered, keep asking. Sometimes we get lost.

Mel, good to "see" you and WISHing your conference is going well.

Kevin, glad you're back.

I don't have anything to report, Oh I think I need to go to Target though. I want to see those sale things.

Going to sleep so I can make those steps tomorrow. I think I'm on board for 5 miles. That should be fine. Good night!

Hey all... I seriously can not keep up with the posts this week. I am still in major LTO/WTO/psycho family issues... I really need to pack up and move to WDW to live in fantasy land!!!!! I will be busy the next week changes locks on the home and car because of the crud I am dealing with. Plus now I need to be even more cautious on my runs by myself.

So I started reading some of the posts and just saw SWDave post about Target. Geez... I needed to see that sooner. So I jumped up and ran to Target quick, they were closing in an hour. I live 5 minutes away, so it was easy to get there. Very disappointed and the shelves were really empty. I did get 2 sets of Pixie Bratz, 2 sets of Bratz outfits, a Transformer Robot thing for my nephew, a pair of sandels for DD4, a pair of tennies for DD6 and a pair of dress shoes for me.... all for under $35. Wish I would have found more, but I will settle with this.

Oh and I am suffering from a head cold/allergy thing that I really hope is gone soon. I haven't had time to run all week, so I head out last night in the beastly heat and thought I was going to die. Partner Sadie (dog) and I did 3 miles, but by mile 1.5 I felt dead and my breathing was horrible. Oh and I got a side stitch. I am sleeping in tomorrow morning for the first time in a month or so. The LR will have to wait until I am good and ready. I need a break!

Oh, one great thing about this week... I am down 3 pounds. ROCK ON! I am down about 15 pounds since the marathon in January. Watch out world, here I come!!! I am wearing sizes I haven't worn since before I had kids, only now my legs are way more toned!!!

Leana - My partner is my dog right now. Last summer I joined a group, it started out OK, but 3 weeks into it there were about 5 people left. So I was running with a group by myself. We all had different paces and with so few people it wasn't fun at all. I stuck with it, but didn't join this year. I really wish I had a partner that ran close to my pace. I really wish you luck and hope you have a lot of fun with the group. I think if you find the right group it would be a blast to run together!

SWDave - That is an awesome run you had. I am in awe of how far you have come since we "met" here last year. You are such an inspiration to me!!!

Oh and whoever mentioned about food at WDW... I tell everyone I go there to eat and they give me the strangest looks. I guess they just don't understand how a theme park can have awesome food. I plan my day around where we are eating.

WELCOME to all the newbies. I am sorry that my posts are so sporadic. I am in seriously overload and just don't have the time to play lately. I am lucky to get any training in, so I guess that has to come first before computer time... oh yah and my family would appreciate seeing my a little bit here and there!

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

OK, I'm waking up and fueling up for my LR this morning. Hopefully it won't get too hot while I'm out there. I thought this would be a great chance to finally catch up with everyone.

Craig- Great job with your mile. Wow, 7:19 is very impressive. Plus you were sick recently, and may not have been 100%. Great job. But wow, you were lapped by people doing the 10K? They must have been flying. What was the 10K finisher's time?

Welcome Moon! It's always great to have another teammate. 10-18 miles per week for the past several months is fantastic! You have a good base to start your training.

Kevin- Welcome back. Thanks for posting. We missed you around here. Sounds like life has been crazy for you recently. So do you not work at the University anymore? I remember you wanting to switch jobs, but I thought you were staying at the U. Good luck with your LR today, and good luck with your Waterfront training. Let us know your plans for that.

Kim- Are you doing the Waterfront marathon too? I think I'm all set for my cruise plans. Now I'm (we're all) just waiting. All my girls, DW, DD6 pooh:, and DD9 princess: got new dresses for formal night. They scored pretty well with clearance sales from old Easter dresses from Target (for the kids) and JCPenney.com for DW.

Leana- Whoa, that boot camp sounds tough. What is that boot camp for again? Good for you for going out and joining the group run. I have trouble with that too. I hope it goes well for you, and let us know how it all goes.

Mel- Awwww, you get a conference at Coronado Springs. No fair... I might trade my meeting in Rio for your conference at Disney. On second thought, I really did enjoy my meeting in Rio. Have fun Mel, learn lots.

Dona- Yay, on the puppy sleeping through the night.

Beth- How'd your run go yesterday?

Stephanie- Yahoo, cool sale stuff from Target. I wish I could have found the Dora Fairytale Castle. DD6 would have really liked that. Oh well, I got plenty of stuff that's for sure. Great job on the 3 mile tempo run. Sounds like you felt really comfortable with the run. And lastly, your doggie doesn't look so happy there... pretty funny.

Jackie- Nice job on your 3 miler last night. Wow, it must have been hot when you ran. It does sound like your Garmin was acting a little funny. Did you make any decisions about the WDW Full Marathon yet? Are you sticking with the half at Disney?

Dana- Congrats on the new TM. That will be nice instead of running in the heat.

Lily- Good luck with your LR today.

Jen- Here's some PD :wizard: :wizard: for all your psycho family issues. I hope things start working themselves out for you and your family. Oh no, you need to change all your locks, and you don't feel safe on your runs. That is awful. Is this all due to your Aunt? She sounds like she does have some mental disorder (and I work in a psychiatry department). All my best Jen. It does sound like you need a break this weekend. Get some rest. Congrats on the weight loss. I hear you about wearing sizes you haven't worn before. I'm finding all these old clothes in the back of my closet that I haven't been able to wear in years. Oh thanks Jen for saying I'm an inspiration, but seriously - it's this TEAM that inspires me. Such a great group... I'm glad I got to meet you at WL during marathon weekend last year. Take care of yourself Jen and get some rest.

OK, I guess it's time for me to start getting ready to run. Later team...

Good morning,

I made it out for 3.3 mile walk this am. Felt pretty good. I actually feel better after about mile 2.

Have a great day.

Yes Maggie, Yes!!!! You have learned a valuable lesson. You do much better after your body has warmed up and right about two miles is where a walker is just getting in the grove. I do about 30 min of brisk walking alternating with some gentle stretching before a race. When you warm up with slow/brisk walking the race is so much smoother.

((((((((((((((((((((((((Jen117)))))))))))))))))))))))))):grouphug:

I went to the gym for an adventure walk on the treadmill. Saw a new music video of the song "Umbrella". It's fun to workout once in a while with the VH1 and the CMT on.

I warmed up for a couple of miles at a 15 min per mile pace then alternated 400m intervals at 6 mph, with rest intervals at 4 mph. It was nice to be out of the heat, it's supposed to hit 100 degrees here today, but I was sweating at the end anyway.

Have an awesome day y'all.

Dave:hippie:

Well... if nothing else at least I got in my long run this week! 6 miles on the treadmill...I don't know how those of you who have to do your 16, 18, 20 mile LR's on the treadmill can stand it. I felt like I was working much harder than usual, but my time seems slower. I haven't run on a treadmill in forever, so I don't know if that is usual. It was 6 miles in 56:29, about a 9:30 pace, which isn't bad, but it just really felt like I was killing myself at that pace. Anyway, it seems like TOT is more and more likely to happen!! I am so excited!! It's also the weekend after the little ones birthday, so we can celebrate his birthday there too!!

Well... gotta run!! I have a birthday party to go to tonight, and we are going to Club Paris (initially named after paris hilton, then changed to being named after the city when she got in trouble). So I have to do the whole clubbin' outfit kinda thing. I might show you guys some pictures of what I look like while NOT huffin and puffin through the Magic Kingdom or chasing my rug rats!! I'll talk to you all later.

Dana

Sorry all just a quick driveby training report

DH and I did 11.3K last night time was 1:39:24 we had planned a 14K but did not properply plan for the heat as we had run out of water and were starting to feel it so we cut it short unstead of risking dehydrating which I think I was pretty close but all well today.

MSDave Yupper DH and I are doing the 1/2 I hope we get a chance to meet Kevin and Beth there. Great dearl on the dresses. You will become hooked on Cruising it is so much fun. Have a great time

Stephanie I am sorry:hug: I am a big countdown person I can tell you how many sleep there are to everything going on in my life....lol My kids think I am nuts

Sorry everyone gotta run but congrats to all on your workouts and have a great weekend!!!!
